The GWJ JRPG Club Version 2.5 HD Remaster: Announcing our Q2 2024 Game!

Malkroth wrote:

For me, P5 would be a NG+ run, as I did my first play through right when it came out. Cold Steel is lower on my list as I would want to play it on the PS4 and I don't want to lose a month of playtime waiting for it to come out.

I have a feeling that Cold Steel will move up on a lot of people's lists after it's PS4 release, and will win in Q2.

I'm happy to play it on PS Now, but yeah, a native PS4 version would be preferable.

Sorry, I'm super late here, hopefully I make it in before the cut-off. My votes are:

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
The Last Remnant
Persona 5

You have until the evening December 15th (Eastern time zone) to vote, so your votes are in!

Welcome! Just in case P5 doesn’t win, do you want to vote for any of the other candidates?

Oh, sorry, I didn't see this earlier but if I had to cast a vote for another game, I'd vote for Xenoblade Chronicles. Still need to buy it from the Wii U eshop but I'd love to check that out too.

Thanks! You don’t have to cast multiple votes, but if P5 get knocked out (unlikely, at this point) I wanted to check for a second choice.

Level 2 baby!

Nice! Updated the list.

Last call for votes! Here are the choices:

LastSurprise and I are currently discussing the changes we want to implement in the game threads. The new thread should be open at some point between Christmas and January 1st!

In the meantime, if you need to purchase the game, it is available on PSN for PS3 and PS4! (The PS3 version is cheaper, in case you're wondering.)

Thanks to everyone who voted! LastSurprise and I are looking forward to playing the game with you in January!

I'm in! Looking forward to this one.

That was a close one! I'm in as well.

I bought P5 at some point when it was on sale, so I'm all set to go.

Hooray! Now I have to put in some real time on DQ VII before this kicks off.

I'll check back next quarter. I bounced off Persona 4 Golden pretty hard and, from what I can tell, Persona 5 looks very similar. Enjoy the game and thanks to Bobbywatson and LastSurprise for taking the lead on this!

Santa might be bringing me P5 for Christmas. If he does, I'll join you!

Ding! Ding! Ding! I'm in!

Yeah, that too!

I’m in for P5. Good choice.

Tried tother night and nope, not feeling DQVII right now, so a trade for P5 is on the cards. I'll be slow, so may well start a lil earlier, say this week. Keen for this one.

Cheers LastSurprise and BobbyW.

Because I'm bound to forget in the next three months, here are some other games that might be a good fit for future picks that weren't mentioned:

Spoiler:

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom (PS4/PC)
Resonance of Fate (PS4/PC)
Nier Automata (XBO/PS4/PC)
Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet (XBO/PS4/PC/Switch)
Secret of Mana (remake on PS4/PC)

Mostly just leaving notes for future me.

I'd vote for...

Spoiler:

Ni No Kuni II and Nier Automata for sure.

No No Kuni II eligible in about 3 months, I checked last noms

Cool, hope folks enjoy P5. It’s a long one for sure, but it was my GOTY last year. I might dabble with NG+, we’ll see...

Well, I'm definitely in for some Persona 5. I feel bad that it's been in shrink wrap for so long but on the flip side, I get to play with everyone here for the first time.

Next time I think I'll nominate Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth or the .Hack//GU games since they've been sitting in my pile for a while too. Nier Automata sounds good as well. I don't have that one yet but I played the original game for the first time this year and loved it.

Excited to play Persona 5 but I will say I’m having trouble keeping up with the schedule. I’m still at around 30 hours on Final Fantasy 12. I’m probably similar with DQ 7. Part of it is that I’m slow and busy. Part of it is that I’m distracted by this year’s releases. I almost hoped for a game I wasn’t interested in to win to give me a chance to catch up!

I’m not really suggesting any changes here, but with the length of some of these games, I’m probably destined to always be behind. The biggest bummer is that it makes it hard to participate in the discussion.

DQVII + Mario Kart Wii = Persona 5.

Ready to go.

To whet your appetites: get ready to use your powers to pump out your goth Pokemon!

Ok, I will do this! I have it sitting at home. Played about 10-15 hours and kind of lost it in the shuffle. Hopefully this will help me get hooked hard enough to finish.

As I plan for playing this I am wondering should I start again or use my save game?

I checked last night and I have a saved game at 18 hours - about 90% of the way through the second "bosses" story. I remember a lot of what has happened and I am not unhappy with my choices of Persona's or leveling so I am not sure a new play through would develop a much different character but I am thinking I would refresh my memory of the story...

.....now that I type it out I think I will just go with my 18 hour save game. Heck the odds of my finishing are low anyway so why not at least see some new content?

I think that’s a good decision. There are only so many confidants available during the first month, so you probably wouldn’t experience much that is new or different. And, I think you’ll be able to refresh your memory through the conversation here!

I plan to start up the official thread tomorrow, to get a few days’ jump on the new year.

For what it's worth, farley, I recently started the game over after having previously finished the first palace. After finishing the first palace a second time, I don't feel like there's even much opportunity to do things differently if you start over. If you remember where you left off in the story and you remember how to play, I doubt you'll miss out on much. If anything, you're in a great place to start back up because the game's slow opening hours are behind you.
