X4: Foundations Catch-all

I kind of love all these kidnappings going on.

Same thing happened a second time — I was in my ship, having just flown through a jump gate. Full strength on my shields and hull, and then boom: Game Over. No damage, no explanations.

I may set this one aside.

I actually had a great deal of fun once I got past the wackass tutorials.

I love X3, so I'm just a bit lost here. Not sure why I keep dying / getting the Game Over screen when just flyng around. Performance is also a bit shakey - I'm running an i7 7700k with a 1080ti, and pulling down 30-40 FPS with drops to the teens at times.

Lots and lots of promise here, for sure, but typically Egosoftian in its launch state.

What am I doind here reading your experiences instead of playing this..

Evidently patch 1.1 is incoming shortly and fixes the trade bug (among other things)

is there an option to rotate the external camera? In X3 you could view your ships from multiple angels but numpad keys don't seem to work in X4 unless in first person view.

edit: Found it on the egosoft forum. Open external view with F2, then press F2 again to get into rotatable external view. Rotate with numpad keys.

I wish I knew, only time that's happened to me was in the spacesuit tutorial, and I just figured I ran out of air.

1.1 is out. Lots of fixes in. GJ Egosoft!

• Added warning when selecting graphics settings that are too high for current hardware.
• Removed SSAA options (if you previously selected SSAA then you are advised to select a different AA setting).
• Removed outdated, broken and not very useful "joystick" input preset.
• Fixed the player ship warping around when opening the map under certain conditions.
• Fixed explosions near the Manager's Office sometimes killing the station manager and making trading impossible.
• Fixed non-missile weapons assigned to an active secondary group shooting while the long range scan mode is active.
• Fixed inactive missions becoming active after requesting guidance to an object.
• Fixed links to the Encyclopedia from software and deployables.
• Fixed black trade menus when owning small mining ships.
• Fixed mining orders not available for small mining ships.
• Fixed pilots not getting up when asked.
• Fixed some savegames crashing shortly after loading them.
• Fixed crash when trying to start the game with certain older AMD driver versions.
• Fixed several other causes of rare crashes.

With how proactive they are being, I might be tempted to get the game soon.

Just here to be pedantic and point out that responding to bugs and feedback is strictly reactive. Proactive would have been catching and fixing these bugs prior to release, so the public never saw them.

Have stuck with the game today. Aside from the janky Game Over (bug? feature?) stuff, I've started to really dig in. It's much more enjoyable than I originally found it to be.

The scanner mechanics are interesting. I like how much larger each sector is now, and how important/interesting exploration becomes as a result. The controls are a bit rough around the edges, but picking a location and flying out to it in order to find stations, signals, and adventure is what I want in a space game.

It's also a good looking engine!

I have a couple of ships now, because a local pirate faction foolishly tried to attack me when I was out exploring. One of them I turned into little pieces; the other had a pilot who bailed, yielding a ship that I sent one of my crew to pilot. Oddly, the pirate who escaped was hanging out OUTSIDE of his escape pod...

...so we shot him, too.

Looks like he was asking for it, really.

I bought a mining ship and sent it out to load up on ore. Now it's full of ore and it sure seems like there's nowhere to sell it. YOU SPACE PEOPLE DON'T NEED ORE?!

For mining ships, change the default behavior to auto mine. Then you can pick what ore types you want to mine and how many sectors away they will travel to sell it. Same for traders. Change the default behavior seems key or they don't keep it up.

My miner is pulling in about 30k every 10 minutes.

I believe that Refinieries buy ore, as well.

Good tutorial on trading

This is such a different experience for me from X3. When I jumped into that, Albion Prelude had been out for years and there was almost too much info out there for me to get started. This is a different experience and it really shows me how much I suck without some extreme hand holding. I might hold off until there are some guides out.

edit* I should read the thread and then post. Thanks Wayfarer.

I'm just glad missions are so much easier to acquire this time. Looving doing missions.

Ok, random tips I have discovered after a super long binge...

1 ) To explore sectors it is WAY easier to just take a small ship and queue up a grid search pattern in multiple sectors. To ensure they are alive when done make the last action docking at a base.

2) SATELLITES. So incredibly important. The new map is awesome at discovering trade routes, but your info on a base times out after about 5 hours after you see it. I went around seeding the galaxy with strategically placed satellites around station clusters.

3) Default behavior. For miners and for traders, set them up using default behavior, not commands. This ensures they stay on task, and if you have to flush current commands, they get right back on task.

4) Player base/station building. I struggled to remember this, but station construction requires a construction ship. These roam the galaxy. When it comes time to build something, either player base, or regular station, you have to find a construction ship. It will then roam around looking for the resources needed and then go build what you want. So the timer on these activities only starts once it has gotten all the resources. You have to be patient. When you go to assign a construction ship, it pops up the galaxy map like you are looking for a resource, but remember you are actually looking for a ship to assign.

5) The autopilot sucks. If you are onboard, the player captain sucks. Hopefully this gets fixed. They are dumb as a bag of bricks. If you are out of sector, they are fine!

6) Dont run into something at 1k m/s.....BOOM Game over.

Where can one buy satellites? I am totally out.

Wharf or shipyard. Upgrade ship. Found under consumables.

Thank you!

If you have automated miners set up, uncheck nvidium. They will end up full of it with nowhere to sell.

Can you buy the construction ships like you could in x3? Have they improved the ui for building complexes?

Is selling Nvidium exclusive to people with Nvidia cards?

I tried to play this yesterday, but after about 30 seconds in it would start flashing over and over for about 30 seconds and then rinse/repeat.

i have a 2080 and the latest drivers so wasn't expecting a video issue.

Oh and a bit of an economy hack (approx 1 mil cred per 15 min). I expect this will get adjusted in a patch, and is only really practical once you have teleportation level 2 at least. Spoilered for those that don't want to see.

Spoiler:

Go to the merchant in a station. Buy all the bandages, needles, and sedative you can. Use these to create first-aid kits at the crafting bench right next to the vendor. Then teleport to the next station...wash-rinse-repeat. When you find a vendor that will but the medkits for 11.5+k then sell. You can generally make about a million credits in about 15 minutes.

Considering that card is new I'm not surprised. They probably don't have any systems built with that for QC.
