This (Pseudo-Fictional) Day in History Lie-All

As a fan and member of Reddit, my daily lurkings recently introduced me to the r/fakehistoryporn sub-reddit. The purview of this particular community is the combination of pictures or videos and text to produce a humorous account of the events of history. Sometimes the images are the fiction, sometimes the text, sometimes both. Regardless, the focus is producing the lols without prescribing themselves to a particular timeline or historical accuracy.

As for me, I’ve never considered myself a “history buff” per se, but I have always been fascinated by the cultures, mythologies, and events of our world. In that same vein, I wouldn’t classify myself as being a funny guy, but I do enjoy producing laughs when the occasion presents itself just as much as I appreciate having a good laugh.

So, I have decided to take it upon myself to provide my perspective on pivotal moments in history via a series ambiguously factual contributions I have titled “This (Pseudo-Fictional) Day in History”. My goal is to find a real historical event corresponding with the current calendar day that I can embellish for your and my enjoyment. Events will be legit, accompanying facts - when provided - may or may not be, pictures never will be. I don't know how long I will keep this going, but in the meantime, I hope you find this as fun as I believe I will have producing it.

Edit: Feel free to pop in with your own This Pseudo-Fictional Day in History contributions!

Rules of Engagement

1.) Historical events must correspond with the current calendar day. Be sure to include the entire historical date in heading of your post!

2.) Pictures can be real life, pop culture, etc., but there must be a clear, fictional link between the picture and the historical event. No pictures from the actual event allowed!

3.) Pictures may, but are not required, to be followed by one or more real facts or pseudo-facts. Make sure to provide an indicator of which of the two types of facts (real or pseudo) you have chosen to share.

4.) Pseudo-facts should create a fictional link between the lore/history of the picture and the facts of the historical event.

5.) Have fun and be creative!

Note: Depictions of modern-political and/or divisive current events are discouraged.

Not-so-ambiguously untruthful facts about Jebediah Smith

Come and listen to my story about a man named Jeb
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,
And then one day he was shootin at some food,
And up through the ground come a bubblin crude.

Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.

Well the first thing you know ol Jeb's a millionaire,
The kinfolk said "Jeb move away from there"
Said "Californy is the place you ought to be"
So they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly

Interesting... I hope you don't mind if I give it a shot...
