Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden - catch all

Looks great! It worries me they describe it as "punishing", but I might give it a try at some point next year.

These days they label anything punishing that isn't a total cakewalk. None of that stuff is Nintendo-hard. And there's always a very easy mode. I'd take the description with a grain of salt.

The game is now available for pre-order on Steam. The regular edition is $34.99, the deluxe edition is $59.99. The Deluxe version comes with a demo available upon purchase, a 3 day "early access" as well as some digital goods, including a digital copy of the Mutant Year Zero pen and paper RPG book.

And GMG has 20% discount on it (I've seen it after I logged in). Tempting... The buzz from the demo seems to be positive but I hate preordering. I don't hate saving 20% though. And playing it this weekend. Decisions, decisions...

Maybe the smart thing to do is to wait until Saturday morning, see what early deluxe buyers say and grab it then? Hopefully, 20% off will stay until then.

Can you link that - I literally can't find it on their site. Search bar comes up empty.

EDIT - AHA! You meant Greenmangaming, not Gamersgate, which would both logically make sense to be shortened to GMG!

EDIT 2 - well it's on Greenmangaming, but I don't see a discount. Moar deets plz!

I picked up the deluxe version as I am sucker for reading different RPG systems and the demo has me hooked.

Does the three day head start mean it unlocks this Saturday? I might pre-order just get in for this weekend. I've got some spare gaming time available.

Best I can tell, the game has a release date of December 4th, so if you pre-order then yes it would unlock on December 1st.

This is the only time I've ever been tempted by the "get in early" pre-order. Now to figure out how to get it in the budget.

Hey now just because i start a thread doesn't mean it's a team based FPS

Well...

In all seriousness, the CG teaser was what led me to believe it was either Fallout 4 or Agents of Mayhem or a mixture of both.

Jonman, yes, it's greenmangaming and I had to log into my account in order to see the discount. Maybe it's their VIP thing or whatever, all these vendors are weird now trying to invent their unique ways to extort money from us.

I know, me too! 3 days early and 20% off is a lot of pressure to pre-order the deluxe edition. As far as I can tell, everyone who played the demo is in love with the game.

CORRECTION.

Pre-order of ANY edition gives 3 days headstart, including Standard.

It settled then, I am getting standard edition from GMG.

Yup, must be their VIP thing - because I'm "NOT ELIGIBLE TO ACCESS THE VIP AREA YET".

Ditto and since GMG doesn't offer the price in CAD and Steam does, I'll be getting it from Steam. I can probably finish the Destiny 2 campaign before then.

I've checked the rate listed by Paypal and it came down to a bit over $37 CAD.

As a reminder, if you're on Xbox One, this will be part of Game Pass on release day. I'm looking forward to it.

I've had some good time with the final version of the game. Here is some gameplay in one of the side-mission areas. No major story spoilers!

Wonderful video! I was certainly wondering why you didn't disable the tanks movement the first time you shot him

Headstart period for folks that preordered has begun. Steam is currently downloading the full release client as I type this.

So, this looks like they are going to Dark Souls style difficulty which makes me a sad panda.

More like Xcom. Which is also hard. They give you different tiers to play as well just like Xcom and some other RPGs. Where you're not allowed to have saves during the missions.

I've played the demo some and enjoy it immensely, but it does have some quirks. The biggest one for me is the pathing at different elevations with a split team.

But it looks like it is character based which works against an Xcom style expendable unit RPG.

I don't play Dark Souls so I don't understand the reference to that style difficulty. Can you elaborate?

Only played for a bit so far but this game is VERY good. Borman is a surprisingly compelling character.

Anyone else have their computer sound like a jet engine when playing the game?
I'm running a RX 580 and an FX 8320.

I am not an expert, but I take it to mean the game is hard. Punishing, unforgiving of even small mistakes. But not unfair. Provided you do things perfect you can succeed but if you screwed up even a smidge it destroys you.

Kind of like the teaching method in the movie "Whiplash".

I would say if you are playing on the lowest difficulty the game is fairly forgiving given that your characters heal after combat and medkits aren't exactly common. Playing on the middle difficulty you have to really be solid with your tactics, leverage stealth, watch patrol patterns and try to pick off stragglers. You also have to really think about target prioritization. Certain targets are way more dangerous than others.

I think the other big thing is making sure you are on top of upgrading your gear. You aren't overflowing with resources so you have to be really smart with the upgrades you select and with what you purchase with your scrap.

Lastly I would say that you can't underestimate the importance of cover, destroying cover and taking advantage of line of sight.

So far all three characters I have are really good, but you are right Borman is the best so far.

This one snuck up on me. Completely forgot about it. Preordered and downloading.

He just seems kind of nice.
