New TV Season 2018-19

The Walking Dead has been surprising good so far this season. Surprised me on a few points. To bad knowing some people are leaving kind of spoils it a bit since I know they will die this season.

Still enjoying The Rookie. I like how it is trying to balance light-hearted moments with serious drama.

Theory:

Spoiler:

I bet Nolan actually won the lottery and isn't telling anyone.

I am watching z nation and just realized they never really explained what happen to the unkillable zombies. They are just gone for no reason. Did show is dead to me now, so I'll keep watching it because that is good for a zombie show.

Outlander is back and they are making America great again. Well not so much but the first episode of the new season was pretty good. And that ending, heavy.

The latest episode of It's Always Sunny was pretty, well, I'm not sure how to define it. It may be the one episode in the entire series that can taken seriously. I think I'm still processing my reaction to it.

Yeah, about that...

Been really enjoying the current season. Loved the reveal at the end of the last episode. No, not that one. The other one.

It was shocking and amazing.

Watched the first three episodes of Legacies. I thought this was going to be trash but I'm digging it. It is a CW show with all the pretty people or people I think other people think are pretty. It also has the relationship drama all CW shows has.

It also has something else, minor spoiler.

Spoiler:

Dragons and gargoyles

The show is a continuation of The Originals and The Vampire Diaries. I'm not sure if people will like it if they haven't watched those. People from those shows are in this show and more might show up.

Really good The Rookie this week. It's consistently been one of the best new shows.

Agreed, I hope it makes it. It has been really doing a good job of balancing drama and humor. My wife and I loved how the women's approach to problem solving differed from the men.

The Good Place Janet episode was so good. Might be the best episode so far.

Just watched this episode. I went in thinking it was going to be one thing with the set up of the episode, and had my expectations totally turned upside down.

Pleasantly surprised would be an huge understatement for sure

CW's DC's Elseworlds crossover through two episodes:

THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Legends of Tomorrow was so good. They even had a elsewords reference.

DC Legends was fantastic this week!

I just finished watching The Flash, and OH MY GOD! So far the best cross over event yet! Watching Arrow now!

And I just finished watching the whole event! The Flash and Arrow episodes were the best, and Supergirl was pretty good, but unfortunately the weaker of the three. Still overall a great three part story line!

Vox has an article up on the 20 best TV shows of 2018. It doesn't seem to be a ranking, but a list with vox worthy commentary on each.

The Good Fight - Surprised, as my wife and I didn't make it to the end of The Good Wife
Atlanta
Pose
GLOW - So much better than it had any right to be
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - Might be my show of the year
Homecoming - I think this is next on our binge list
Forever
Howards End - Anxious to binge this once we restart Starz for Conterpart
Summer Camp Island
The X-Files - Really surprised because the little I watched was so not very good
Lodge 49
Better Call Saul - Better than Breaking Bad
The Good Place - Obviously
The Kids are Alright
Speechless - We don't do many sitcoms, but I'm a sucker for Minnie Driver, and this is great
Mom
Billions
The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story
DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Didn't make it through the first season, but the addition of contain has me intrigued
Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Guantlet

Wouldn't be my list, as it is missing Counterpart, Haunting of Hill House, and Sabrina. I also think Baskets and Better Things on FX deserve so much more praise.

The most recent episode of the Rookie was intense, and really good!

...it also had the weirdest marketing I’ve seen for a show. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, then immediately goes into a preview for the next episode that resolves the cliffhanger but sets up a different, related cliffhanger.

Deadly Class pilot is free on the sy fy youtube channel. The show doesn't air until January.

I was interested in that. Is it any good?

Haven't watched it yet, probably will tonight.

Anyone watching Jamestown? I was just going through the PBS channel on the roku and noticed it. Watched the trailer which makes it seem to be about a group of women being sold into marriage in the new town of Jamestown. I'm guessing they will always touch on the history of the town but maybe not.

The Titans series is way better than I thought it ever had a chance to be. Surprise series of 2018 for me.

Just watched Ep1 of the new season for The Orville yesterday. I love that this show is back!

I just watched the first episode of the new season as well, and it had me laughing. I love the cornball nature of this show. HA!

Glad that You're the Worst is back! Hilariously to my wife and me, the first episode of this season is something I did, too:

Spoiler:

The episode starts with some random couple in the 90s, as a bunch of romantic comedy tropes play out along with some truly silly/weird/unbelievable things happening (the 90s VR sequence is especially hilarious). Eventually, it becomes clear that the story we're seeing is Jimmy and Gretchen telling prospective wedding planners this ridiculous fake version of how they met. I did something like this too! For my wedding, when we were putting together our wedding programs, I was struck by how many of my friends' weddings had these tedious "how we met" sections that were all basically the same, often with this irritating theme of the groom being pathetic and/or clueless and the bride relenting and/or strong-arming the groom into a relationship. So instead of doing anything like that, for our programs I wrote up 5 different silly fake stories (e.g. I was raised by monkeys living in the jungle and my wife was a monkey researcher who discovered me on safari and brought me back to civilization--she taught me how to be human, and I taught her how to love). I especially enjoyed that we did nothing to call this out, it was just a section on like page 3 of the program, so I noticed multiple people with bored looks on their faces flipping through the program suddenly seeming very confused. Anyway, this episode really resonated with my wife and me!

It's a good show!

I don't usually jump on shows that everyone is talking about much less singing competitions but had a few friends over this past weekend and we watched the first two episodes of The Masked Singer...what a wild fever dream of a show. Interesting concept and I'm curious to see if this thing has legs past 2 or 3 seasons.

We've also been enjoying this. It's really hard to not look online to spoil things though.

Watched the first episode of Deadly Class, saw enough to make me want to continue watching. It's Syfy though, it will probably be gone after half a season.

This episode of Counterpart was fantastic. They dumped a lot of answers out.
