No Man's Sky Catch-All 2.0

Thanks Robear - I could not join any multiplayer game for some reason, but I did manage to figure it out. I could enter and leave my spaceship (I just ended up stuck every time the same place), but had no fuel, and no ingredients to make it-. Well then, I had my scanner, which contains the ingredients needed to make the metal plate I needed to make fuel - So, I dismantled my scanner, made a metal plate, made fuel, hopped into my spaceship and flew away - yaaaay!

I gotta remember that trick, Razgon, that's a good one!

It all started out innocent enough. Another game in the genre got me looking during this most recent Steam sale. I read/watched at least 3 reviews that stated NMS was better than the game I was researching. This was backed up by a GWJ brother.

I'm not sure what came over me, but I bought this game. I'm familiar with the journey that this game has been on and I'm really excited to delve into this one now.

Oh, it's worth it. It's a trip. In many senses.

Online is coming this summer: https://www.nomanssky.com/2019/03/no...

I'm really not sure what it will be though. All very vague. Interesting though.

It's so refreshing to see a developer reach for the stars and succeed so thoroughly. It took them a while, but they're really flying now.

(Rereading this it is corny, but I assure you the spaceflight language was unintentional)

I'm looking forward to the summer update, since it will correspond to when I'll actually have time to play it.

I actually might buy this game again when this update comes out, I've really only played the vanilla version & the changes since then really seem quite substantial. Plus I didn't have my PS4 Pro when I first played this so it'll be nice to play it at 60fps.

What are people's impressions from how the game is now vs back at launch?

I personally enjoyed my time with it at launch, probably sunk over 40 hours into it, but all the new changes are a welcome addition, I just wish I had more time in my life for games.... lol.

Yeah I quite enjoyed it too but it was a bit shallow & repetitive. I hated going to different planets but seeing the same handful of space station or little huts, the mining was enjoyable though.

I played for about ten hours after each of the last two updates. I had fun, then lost interest. I suspect I'll do the same this time. It's a good "sandbox and chill" game.

I love it but have fallen into a risk-averse pattern, I guess, and get a little too chill. I'm not building a lot because it's time-intensive and I haven't had much time for it, and while I enjoy just tooling around planets and stuff that alone isn't quite deep enough to just fart around for overly long. I don't even have any of the other vehicles. (And while it's cool to think about circumnavigating the world in the buggy I don't like that it's so hard to avoid running over creatures, especially the smaller ones. Maybe the render distance/spawn distance has been updated since last I did that (over a year ago at least) and it's not so problematic, but virtual though they may be I really don't like the prospect of ecotourism so nonchalantly giving way to ecoterrorism.)

I have 170 hours in on the PS4 and still play it a few times a month. After exhausting all the "plots" such as they were, like muraii I'm now just using it as a chill-out game, not trying too hard. But there is a few late-game goals I'm slowly making my way towards, like collecting all the glyphs so I can use the portals. Most of the late-game stuff is not obvious at all so I've been getting the info from websites.

Interesting read that...

No Man’s Sky players have spent months mapping black holes

https://www.polygon.com/2019/4/13/18...

After a million years of play time I now have all the glyphs, can use portal travel. Anybody on PS4 want to share their home base planet coordinates?

Mine are
0B9F:007D:04AF:0017

A saw, a year ago, that Robear did post his coordinates. I visited it, but as you might expect since he's on PC and I'm on PS4, it was not the same. In fact in ps4 universe his system was still undiscovered.

Sorry to hear that, Lorenzolio. It's a nice planet.

Has anyone tried the co-op gameplay? Anything one needs to keep in mind,or does it work as it should? The GF and I are about to embark on a PC journey through the universe together which is pretty cool! I would like to skip all the intro stuff for her, though.

Any tips and experiences will be appreciated!

I haven't played for a few months, but I did a handful of co-op sessions that went well. I don't remember the details how this worked, but both players start in the same system, maybe that of the player who sends the invitation. So if you were working alone in the same game file in a different system later, then quit, then do a co-op session at your partner's request, you'll be pulled into the system they are in from the one you ended in. I suppose this could be an issue later in the game, but for where we were at the beginning of a game, it was no big deal.

Many things like quests were achievable by both players, but a few of the items you can find only go to the first one who finds them, so sometimes you've got to negotiate or take turns with stuff. And only one person can discover things, so there's that too.

I had a good time with it, though. It was more like "playing in the same game space" than it was true "co-op" play, but it worked fine technically. If anything, I imagine they've tweaked some things since then.

I still love this game. Played another 5 hours last night and did nothing but bump around grabbing stuff and chilling. Somehow, I have managed to land a HUGE Freighter for free by killing by some pirates.

While the freighters have been in the game for a while now, this was my first experience with all the new features. You can build rooms in the freighter now, and run missions, and it's just so much fun! Now I just need to figure out how to recruit more escort ships, because this is a whole new rabbit hole for me that I'm about to get lost in.

Thanks!

My GF and I tried it on PC - After 2 hours, and still being in the tutorial, she gave up and refunded it - I think we will wait until true multiplayer arrives sometime in summer. I appreciate the input, though!

ThatGuy42, I think recruiting escort ships first comes in as a result of one of the first freighter missions, so don't bend your head trying to find a non-existent vendor lol. After that activates in your game, it'll be clear, and you just need a lot of cash.

Have they added stuff in the past couple of months? I haven't played for a while, since just before the underwater areas got ramped up.

No, it had gone pretty silent the last several months up until they announced the incoming VR support and true multiplayer. Will be interesting to see what happens after this next big release... In other words, will they continue with the smaller updates for a few months like they did this past Fall/Winter? Or will it mostly be bug fixes until whatever major content comes next (if any)?

I'm so ready for the VR update

Same. In the meantime, I HIGHLY recommend the VR missions of Ace Combat 7. Different genre, but the flight mechanics are amazing.

Say what?!? VR? OMG! That'll be awesome!

I started playing last night at 8pm. I played until 1:30am. I woke up at 6am feeling rested and refreshed. This is still my go to Zen game. My stress just melted away as I played.

"With the Scotch".

My goodness. Kids and wife were out of the house. Coincidentally I had just bought a fresh bottle of Macallan. I'm 5 more hours in today. Total play time across all my saves is now over 200 hours.

I'm telling you. This game is Zen. It's my ultimate stress relief relexation. I can not say enough good things about my enjoyment in NMS.
