Star Trek: Discovery Catch-All [Spoilers]

Discovery expensive but not as bad as I thought. $40 for DVD, $50 for Blu Ray.

Ethan Peck cast as Spock.

I can't help but feel that's a bit of a tough gig. I think I saw that someone already made the comparison to casting for the role of Superman in Supergirl. When was the last time someone was cast as Spock and he wasn't one of the two most important characters in the show/film?

I wonder if they'll keep Spock's presence to a minimum to avoid too much emphasis being places on how they're interpreting the character...

Sure why not. Good luck with that.

He has the look for it. Sure, why not, I’m game.

I agree, that would probably be the wisest course of action.

You could say that it would be the most...logical...course of action.

(I couldn't help myself; I'm sorry.)

Just finished the series then went back and read the thread. Wow, talk about new SW flashbacks!

Anyway I really enjoyed the show. I enjoyed the characters, the sets, the ships(!), etc.

I'll be looking forward to the 2nd season and I'm going to keep my CBS access to support this show.

CBS All Access Reduced-Ad Version Hits Amazon Prime Video Channels

maybe I can finally watch this show!

So it says it is on prime but also says it cost money. What is the point of being on prime if I have to pay for it beyond what I pay for prime?

You can “extend” Prime with premium addons like HBO, Stars, CBS, etc. which you can then access within the single app.

Personally, I’d rather sign up for these services separately and use their native apps, but I can see why people would like the convenience of using Amazon to easily turn the services on/off.

Unless something's changed, the native app was universally awful. I switched from it to the Amazon Channels version around the start of the year.

New trailer released. Since CBS is still jerks about region locking such things, the link should have the one that works for you.

Looks good!

Lot of emphasis still being placed on the 'pods in an asteroid field' part. It reminds me of the way trailers for Star Trek Into Darkness placed a strong emphasis on the part where Kirk, Uhura and Spock were in that little ship near the beginning, and it ended up being this really unimportant part of the film...

I enjoyed the Tilly short Trek episode from this week. Glad we are getting content every month until the new season is out.

Had to hide behind Hotspot Shield to see that trailer, but it's pretty great.

I like how they manage to give action packed trailers full of character moments while still giving no info about the actual plot.

Unlike the extended Aquaman trailer which, while the movie looks enjoyable, I feel no need to go watch now.

You put that much better than I did! :D

I'm not familiar with these shorts. In Ireland Discovery is on Netflix but I haven't seen any new content appear for Discovery. Are they counted as a separate series, or are they with season one?

They are part of the Disco series so I believe they will all be around the same timeframe?

Are those Klingons with hair I spot?!

Looks good to me. Will probably wait till the whole season is out to watch it all at once, but am looking forward to it based on that trailer.

Has anyone else been watching Short Treks? I just watched the latest episode Calypso and loved it.

Spoiler:

There are a ton of questions I have now about the Discovery crew and the ship herself, but the beauty of this episode is that all of those questions play second fiddle to the wonderfully acted story between Craft and Zora. Because I've only been watching kids movies as of late, I had major Wall-E vibes the whole episode.

Loved it, thought it was one of the best episodes of anything I ever seen. Checked out a few reviews. People really hated it. Oh well different strokes and all that.

Looks like they put a lot of money into these shorts. Maybe with the limited cast it doesn't cost that much.

I just saw this and I am excited!

OHMYGOSH! I'm excited too!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it's an exciting time to be a Star Trek fan. We now have 4 shows in pre-production or production. And apparently more may still be on the way.

Heads up, new trailer for Season 2 below.

I watched it and in my opinion it's a bit too spoilery (though I'm sure it's all just stuff revealed in the season premiere episode), so proceed with caution.

Is this still confined entirely to CBS all access?

So after watching the first couple episodes last season I tuned out.

I noticed it is available on DVD now. Does it get going enough to watch? It seems like it does but I was really not into the first few episodes.

The first few episodes really struggle to find a footing, and felt very heavy and plodding. I definitely felt that there was a pickup in steam after the first three or so? By the end the boyfriend and I were happy to continue watching and were looking forward to it every week. Thankfully we buddy up with another Trek fan and all just pay/share for CBS All Access (which I guess we'd better prepare to do again soon).

I really enjoyed the show. The only part that I didn't like was that they changed the Klingons so drastically. I was fine with the changes made from ST:TOS through TNG, DS9, and Voyager, but those changes seemed more evolutionary. Whether the evolution was justified in the lore or was merely the product of advances in production and costume technology is another discussion. Regardless, I found it jarring and don't really care for their new take at all.

My opinion is, no. If you didn't like what you've seen already, the show gets worse. I actually liked the earlier episodes as I was giving them some time to find their footing. They had some good character development - especially the captain. Then the second half of the season goes completely off the rails.

This trailer didn't impress me much either with the...

Spoiler:

evil captain that is evil. She's so evil, she even shows off her evil badge and openly talks about her evil organization. Sigh...
