Buying Zero Games in 2018 (Or One or Two, I'm Not the Boss of You)

Pages

I took a peek at CAG for Black Friday deals. Granted, it's early but I'm not seeing anything setting my heart all aflutter. I think I'm good to go.

My backlog is down to six games and I think my pace will pick up now that:
a) all are portable, which works a lot better for me
b) it's getting colder outside

Mech-thing popped on Steam as a sale. I just might be too lazy to buy it, or I might get jacked up on noXplode and buy it.

If I fall off the wagon, I will be asking "who's still on the wagon?"

(Finally did finish XCOM:The remake but the first one not the second one (remake)).

I think the wagon is almost empty.

I'm still on the wagon.

My backlog's down to one game, and I'm about to fire it up: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Backlog? What backlog?

Half a month to go and I think I'll be busy enough with holiday times that new games will be out of mind.

Next year will not be zero games; I plan on getting the new version of the Switch, if and when.

Until then, I plan on making 2019 the year of the replay.

Well done Ted. Inspirational stuff! I can do this in 2019, I think.

Spoiler:

I can't

Ted, it might just be you and me. I'm solely doing this because it's so close. Easy, now. And I've left no hints for games or gift cards for Christmas, either.

Quick, someone send Wick a Steam game. There's like hundreds in the Gift Key thread.

Noooooooooo. I don't think anyone has my Steam username, anyway.
(That does remind me I still have Elite: Dangerous uninstalled from years ago)

*hi five*

I put a 3DS game on my wishlist (Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon) but if I receive it then I'll wait the few extra days.

CONGRATULATIONS to those who made it all the way to December 31st!

To those, like myself, who did not, might I recommend you sign up for the new thread;

Going the Longest Amount of Time in 2019 Without Buying a Single Video Game

I did it; woo!

Great job! I made it 80 days. What’s everyone else’s record?

I made it til my birthday, which google tells me is day 202 of last year. Other than that and a drunken purchase of Into the Breach when it released for Mac, I didn't buy anything until the Thanksgiving sale. So while not a complete success, I'm pretty happy with my year.

I broke in April I believe. But I did not buy a game unless it was on sale. I guess that's better than nothing.

A couple of weeks I think.

Well, Ted - if it's just you and me, that's two peeps.

I promised $10/person to a charity in GWJ's name.
Do you want to pick the charity, Ted?
I'll wait another week for anyone else to chime in.

I'm going to try to see how long I can go without purchasing a game I'd like to clear my backlog and actually finish some games...we will see how long I last.

This may be a tight year for cash though which may make this pretty easy.

Part of this for me is also avoiding podcasts or atleast podcasts about modern gaming. It's so hard not to be drawn into the hype cycle. I love being part of the conversation and excitement with new games.

I think that's a key, honestly. Now that I don't listen to gaming podcasts any longer I'm genuinely surprised by game releases. I still get caught up in the hype now and then, but not nearly as much.

Psst, over here

I totally agree re: the podcasts. They are such filthy enablers.

Did not even know that was a thing thanks!

Sure, if it's alright with everyone.

I nominate the Dravet Syndrome Foundation.

Dravet syndrome is a rare, catastrophic, lifelong form of epilepsy that begins in the first year of life with frequent and/or prolonged seizures. Previously known as Severe Myoclonic Epilepsy of Infancy (SMEI), it affects 1:15,700 individuals, 80% of whom have a mutation in their SCN1A gene. While seizures persist, other comorbidities such as developmental delay and abnormal EEGs are often not evident until the second or third year of life.

That's a really nice gesture Wickbroke. Nice nomination Ted.

You're a class act, wickbroke; thank you!

Well, after the holidays, my wife had some money in her PS account, so with the sale on now, we got Celeste, Unraveled, and Journey. Still no money spent, so I’m technically in compliance.

LastSurprise, I think you want the NEW IMPROVED 2019 thread!

Whoops! I sure do.
