You heard it here first, folks... Steam Sale is coming...

The Halloween sale is currently in full swing, so this seemed as good a time as any to kick things off.
Do you plan to get any games in particular? Budgets you intend to (try to) abide by?
And the usual question... How many games did you buy during the last sale and haven't played yet?

My brother usually sends me a steam gift card for Christmas, and whatever the value of the card is, that's my budget. I've spent more on games this year than the past few combined, and I'm not happy with more than half my purchases. There's nothing like picking up a few bargains in the sales to make me feel better... right??

In terms of games to look out for...

Conan Exiles- less than £15
Skylines expansions that I don't have- no more than £5 each
AssCreed Origins- £15
Sonic Mania- £5

It could be that none of those will reach my target price, in which case I'll just buy some more EU4 DLC that I won't play. Such is the way of things.

I agree, Kergguz, I'm looking out for AC: Origins too, but the price point will have to be a good one.
I just took a look and I only played one of the six gifts I received last summer. Oh my. That shall be addressed in November.
Edit: I *have* played other games though, and I'm at 100% or near 100% played for games from Summer 2017 and before.

Hidden Folk and Star Hammer from the summer sale. Primarily because Deep Rock Galactic turned out to be so awesome, can't recommend that game enough. It's probably the best execution of Early Access I've seen so far.

As for intended purchases, I'm planning on getting Dungeon Warfare 2 as soon as I finish the first one.

Ooh, forgot to answer this bit. Looks like I bought Oxygen Not Included (played and happy with, will play more), Don't Starve: Shipwrecked (haven't played, probably won't) and Grand Theft Auto V (played briefly, wish I could return but left it too long).

A strike rate of 33% !!

First baby due on New Year's Day. Don't think I will be buying anything this winter for me.

Summer sale games:

Seven:The Days Long Gone-32 hours played. Love it!
Firewatch-4.8 hours played. Enjoyed it. Will finish.
Poly Bridge-4.5 hours. Good time. Will play when bored.
A Hat in Time-4.3 hours. Fun. Probably done.
Cuphead-1.6 hours. Hate it.

Many tempting things, but I just bought the Humble Day Of The Devs Bundle so I've got Yooka-Laylee, RiME and Full Throttle Remastered all ready to go. And that's after I get through Dragon Quest XI. Still very tempting though...

I'll have to see if anything is worth it on my list. Considering No Man's Sky but still up there for a game I may not play soon. Or Monster Hunter.

I'll probably need to be a bit smarter with my money this sale since we're burning through it while we are living in France (June 2018 to Jan 2019 for my wife's sabbatical). We've got to do some great things while here - Paris, Normandy, some chateaus, hiking in the Alps, visit Austria, Germany (castle Neustwanstein), Italy, and Norway. I can't complain as this is a great experience, but it is expensive.

I only have a weak laptop here so my gaming is limited to games that don't require much horsepower. There have been some games that I hope to be able to get on sale over the holiday as I usually get some gift money. I haven't been able to play action games while here.

Not sure how many of these will go on sale cheap enough, but the top ones I'm watching are:
Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4)
Two Point hospital (PC)
Divinity Original Sin 2 (PC)
Warhammer 40K Gladius Relics of War (PC)
Assassin's Creed Odyssey (PC)
God of War (PS4)
Frostpunk (PC)
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PC) - It seems like this disappointed a lot of people so I'm not sure what I'll do about this one.

I'll keep my eye on other games that I'd pick up for a great bargain.

As for the last winter sale season, I've played 9 out of 9 games, pretty good!

That was part of the August Humble Monthly, you can probably go over to the key thread and grab that one for free. In fact, Trashie posted that he had been subbed for the past few months without knowing and is giving away his keys, so I'd message him and see if his hasn't been claimed.

I actually already tried that- enquired in that thread and sent Trashie a steam friend request but no response. Maybe not very active at the moment?

I may end up picking up Grim Dawn. It's on sale now, and I've been enjoying Titan Quest a lot, but I don't want to start anything new right now. Maybe in a couple months' time I'll have cleared my pile a bit. I've got RDR2 and Divinity: Original Sin to get through, and a couple others I want to at least check out. While not on Steam, I'm hoping the AC: Origins DLC goes on sale sometime this holiday season as I think I'm ready to return to that game, and want to finish those addons before trying out Odyssey.

Looks like your header image didn't upload properly, Eleima. I removed it for now, give it another shot!

Picked up a few wishlist titles in this Halloween sale, mostly filling out my VR library.

ADR1FT - very barfy, but an interesting control scheme for floating in space.

Chip's Challenge 1 - for half a buck, I'll take some classic puzzles.

Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope - finger guns!

Black Hat Cooperative - I love a co-op VR game where one player is in the helmet, and the other one is sitting at the monitor. But they're rarer than hen's teeth (Carly and the Reaperman is the only other one I have, also looking to pick up The Diner Duo in the future.

Pool Panic - been waiting on this since Alan was talking about it on the CC.

X-Plane 11 - this dropped to $40, and it's unlikely to go lower. VR + HOTAS = win!

I'm trying to read the rest of your post, but my overpowering jealousy is throttling me!

I...might not actually buy anything during this sale, which is...shocking...

All I've bought is Deathwar 3030 Redux, on a bit of a whim and because I was willing to start playing it immediately. I don't have any other plans, though I might get Fists of Furry for my 7yo who loves cats, ninjas, and side-scrolling beat-em-ups (and by now I've had about all the Castle Crashers I can take).

Did you type that with a straight face? The sale is still young Brian, the sale is still young

My first time in Europe and I love it!

Even though almost all of my PC game collection is on Steam, it's actually a GOG sale I'm looking forward to most.

I want to build my WinXP-and-earlier game catalog out in GOG. Steam is dropping XP support. Which is fine, but I have a pile of parts that I have earmarked for an XP system to run older games on.

I also have a bunch of computers in my house now, and I would like to install some old LAN party favorites on them and be able to run them simultaneously, which is a no-go with Steam DRM.

And just overall in general, some old titles that I held out on buying GOG versions of because I had them on Steam, I think I will pick up on GOG when I can find them at low sale prices.

I bought Ancestors Legacy because I can't resist RTS games. Especially ones with comparisons to CoH. I'm eyeing a few other things too.

Ug... I'm broke, but ended up pulling the trigger this morning on Grim Dawn. Robear was praising it a while back so I tossed it on my wishlist, and 70% off putting it under $10 is hard to ignore. I played it for about 90 minutes this morning and enjoyed it, though I felt the classes were kind of overly complex. I'm sure I'll get used to it, I just haven't played this style of game regularly since back when Diablo was all the rage. I just wish there was a points redistribution so I didn't feel so locked into my choices... it makes it really hard to commit points into anything.

In Summer sale I bought; World of Final Fantasy, Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, A Bird Story, Through the Ages, Darkest Dungeon DLC, King of Dragon Pass, Slay the Spire & Drox Operative
Aaand, only played (and finished) World of Final Fantasy.
Better than zero games played!

Doubt I'll be buying anything in Halloween sale, but in Winter sale, surely something will show up.
Not much on Steam probably. More likely the other shops got some decent sales.
Not looking for anything specific. I'd jump in on a sale on Terraforming Mars, but probably too much to expect one. Other than that, whatever random stuff might appear from my wish list - or outside it.

I don't understand. You need to feed that new PC. It could have lived a good life somewhere else.

There is. It is just quite expensive.

Are we talking Halloween sale stuff here too?

I still have an eye on >observer but so far only grabbed Icey. Even loaded it up and played for nearly TEN MINUTES. Yay me!

Maclintok wrote:

We most certainly are. Everyone should buy and play The Darkside Detective, which is currently 30% (figures at 8€04 here).

A wild Grand Poobah has appeared!
Thanks Certis, not sure what happened there, I'll take another crack at it.

Yikes. I wouldn't take GOG games if they were paying me too, right now.

I'm kind of iffy on The Darkside Detective. It was nowhere near as good as I was expecting it to be. It was a very mild experience to play through. Not all that good, not all that bad, just hohum. It is a shame as I love the idea of it and the graphics/music are fantastic.

With all the money I just spent on a new rig, this might be the first Steam sale in years -- maybe since these things began -- that I'll likely buy nothing.

My sad realization is that I’ve only put a couple hours into the games I bought during the Steam sale. I may buy some DLC and maybe AC Odyssey if it drops a little. Otherwise I’m holding pat.

Looks like the only thing I'll be nabbing for the Halloween sale is the very Lynchian-looking Beckett.

WGS has it for -50% ($5).

I'm expecting a very quiet sale for me. My pile has grown to frankly embarrassing proportions and, given the number of games in it that I really want to play, it's very hard for me to justify adding to it right now.

Plus there is nothing "big" on my list that I don't already have. Maybe the new Tomb Raider, but since I haven't played the 2nd one yet I really can't justify buying the third, since it will only be cheaper by the time I got to it.

I'll probably pick up a handful of <$5 games that look interesting, but I'm not planning on anything.

And I won't be doing my card-buying binge that I usually do either. I hit Steam level 100 and don't need to push anymore. Plus I'm a bit embarrassed that I tried that hard to get there in the first place.

Edit: Darkside Detective is on my list, but it's $9.09 right now. Itch.io has it in a bundle with 4 other games (including Shrouded Isle) for $11. I may grab both of them there, since itch.io at least understands the concept of "curation".
