Marvel Media (Spoiler Thread)

This was a really weird production. You have a lot of really great high points, like John Bernthal doing anything as the Punisher, Wai Ching Ho stealing scenes like Bernie Madoff, and Vincent D'Onofrio doing this:

As much as I like Travis Willingham as a voice actor, his Kingpin in the PS4 Spider-Man game doesn't hold a candle to D'Onofrio's. Granted, he had a lot less time on screen, but Vince is the definitive Fisk.

Noticed no ads for daredevil on netflix. I wonder if it is also going to get canceled.

Daredevil season 3 episode one. I think they changed the camera work for the series. The lighting and general camera work seems to be down. Also they are still using that wobbly came thing or non stable camera which I don't like. The camera is never stable and once I noticed it I couldn't not notice it. Almost like it is giving me motion sickness.

A bit of a slow start. I just checked and there are 13 episodes. I hope they are making better use of the other episodes. I was hoping Iron fist reduced count would be a trend.

minor spoilers

Spoiler:

Why didn't Karen just sublet the apartment. Also why didn't Matt call his friends to let them know he was ok.

There's been a handful or so

Yeah, there's been at least one trailer and Netflix and Marvel have both said that Iron Fist will continue in an as-of-yet unannounced capacity and it's cancelation has no bearing on the future of the rest of the Netflix-MCU.

Personally, I'd be fine if they cancel Luke Cage next and then Jessica Jones. Daredevil and Punisher are the ones I've found to be the most consistently engaging. Granted, Punisher has only had the one season, but he basically shared the entire second season of DD.

They can take my Jessica Jones series when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.

My wife says the same.

I'm still waiting for the Jessica Jones/Luke Cage ship to sail.

I do not understand you at all.

I'm going to be unhappy until I get a Squirrel Girl series.

I assume they'll keep Iron Fist around as a +1 for the other hero shows. However, I assume that most of the extended cast from his show, like Colleen and the siblings and the rest of the Hand, are gone for good.

I mean it already had a pilot.

Was supposed to be on Freeform but is apparently still being shopped around. Haven't heard any news since last year.

Please let her intro be as JJ and LC's babysitter.

Oh FFS. How Murdoch gets his powers back doesn’t give me much hope for this season.

I thought I was in the political news thread and you were talking about Rupert Murdoch. I was very confused.

I haven't started it yet so I want to register a guess: Bitten by a radioactive dolphin.

Luke Cage is canceled, too.

First, they came for your Iron Fist...

This is so bizarre. After the powerhouse first season of Luke Cage, I just assumed it would be a long running series. Then season 2 fizzled, I guess? Still haven't watched it.

Well, vypre is happy. Guess JJ is next.

Daredevil S03e04

Spoiler:

That prison scene. Looks like they were trying to top the hallway scene from one.

Might have been a little to crazy. I'm not sure how things fell apart so fast. Nice to watch though.

My boyfriend actually thinks Iron Fist and Luke Cage will get a duo show.

Heroes for Hire! announced next week

And, to be fair, Iron Fist worked his best playing off Luke.

Those comics were the best. I still have a big stack of PM&IF 's.

I saw someone on social media make a convincing argument that these cancellations are just the early stage of Disney pulling all the Marvel licenses from other platforms for their own impending streaming service and that all the other series will likely eventually follow. Jessica Jones and Punisher already have new seasons in the works so Daredevil will likely be the next announcement (in a month or so after the new season has had time to breath).

I think it depends on what kind of contract Netflix got. They may be expensive shows compared to other things they can spend their money on, especially after whatever license they pay to Disney. Or maybe Disney has some kind of out, but I'd think at the times these were negotiated, Netflix would have had a little more control.

Maybe contracts guaranteed everything through Defenders, then it was season by season? Just no way to know.

Also Netflix knows what kind of traffic they get. Maybe they’re just not that popular. I know for my part I’m at peak Marvel already. I watched 1 season of Daredevil and that’s all I could take.

Y'all should read the article. Some of this is addressed in there.

Luke Cage's cancelation seems to have come about because of explosive last minute creative differences when the scripts for S3 were submitted. It doesn't sound like this is a planned move toward a joint show with Iron Fist, at least not on Netflix.

But I think ruhk's friend is close to the mark. A pile of creative differences probably escalated into cancelation instead of firing/rewrites because of Disney's new service. Netflix pays a lot of money for the Marvel shows but doesn't own any of them, and Disney is clearly going to want to bring this stuff home, as it were.

JJ has a new season in the works, ruhk? I thought they lost the show runner?
