Let's talk anime.

Very cute

This is... awesome.

Dragon Pilot got a release on Netflix, and it's cute as hell.

(watching a review on youtube. Seems cute and funny. Pilots are swallowed by the dragon?) Noooppppe. Not gonna happen.

They get swallowed in the cutest way possible.

New stuff I'm watching - RADIANT and SSSS.GRIDMAN.

First two episodes of Gridman have been cool.

Watched That time I got reincarnated as a slim. Read the manga so I was interested. Starts pretty well, decent humor, if a bit slow beginning. That said it's pretty fun. These type of shows tend to start strong and get weak. Will see how well it holds up.

I watched the first episode of Gridman and I'm in love.

On top of all the other giant robot awesomeness, it's got one thing right that's always bugged me about mecha anime (even though I love them to a point that someone once pointed out to me I have the tastes of a 15 year old boy) -- the destruction of the area. When the giant robot/kaiju go down the street, they destroy the street! No street in the world is built to handle the live load of a 100 foot giant robot/radioactive lizard walking down it, and they're ankle deep in Tokyo and kicking up hunks of tarmac at every stride!

It's not the first.

I know it's not the first, but it's a detail I appreciate very, very much!

Season 3 of The Seven Deadly Sins is up on netflix.

I was pleasantly surprised by Lost Song, which popped up on Netflix recently. Seems like a pretty straightforward fantasy story at the start, but it ends up doing some pretty interesting stuff.
I'd definitely recommend avoiding spoilers (the wikipedia article is full of them) if you plan on watching it though.

Why didn't anyone tell me that Thunderbolt Fantasy is getting another season?

So Funimation is leaving Crunchyroll and going back to their own fiefdom on November 9th. (By extension, Funimation is also leaving VRV.) Sony bought Funimation a while ago, which was a factor.

But Hidive is joining VRV, which is apparently a deal that's been in the works for a while. That brings Legend of the Galactic Heroes to VRV, plus some other interesting things.

I'm going to need a chart to sort out which shows I need to watch and where.

Between all that and Netflix scooping up shows, it's getting messy. I'll probably never subscribe to more than one anime only streaming service.

I hope that doesn't include naruto next generation. I'm like 30 episodes behind on that.

I am exactly...652 episodes behind on One Piece.

Sad news. Hidive has a nice selection of anime, but it hardly makes up for the huge catalog Funi has.

I'm anxiously waiting to see the finials list of what is leaving Crunchyroll. I've managed to catch up on many older, Funi-licenced anime these last couole years.

You're a third of the way there! Almost done!

I've seen a lot of Funimation's stuff also available on Hulu. Not my favorite streaming service as it has had some wonky subtitle/caption tech going, but serviceable in a pinch. Is Funimation leaving Hulu as well or is that deal still in operation?

Hang on, while he's definitely an Earthling and a teacher, Korosensei isn't human.

Maybe he isn't NOW.

I really enjoyed Dragon Pilot

I also watched Dragon Pilot, and other than my own personal problem with the yarfing up the pilot (that's guaranteed to make me yarf, too) I thought it was awesome.

Spoiler:

I loved the protagonist, especially when she went a long while trying to gently dissent and when that didn't work all of a sudden let everyone know that she disagreed with great force. When she grew into the forcefulness at the end it really worked.

The yarfing dragons make me laugh every time.
That said, for all the show's silly trappings there's a surprising amount of emotional weight in there. There's a lot of fairly poignant stuff about growing up and finding your place in the world, figuring out what's important to you, etc.

I think I said this before but Planet With was my favorite anime last season.
