IT guy toolkit

Tron fights for the Users.

I've used it for general Windows Cleanup, removal of bloatware, the works. It's does a good job.

Rather than start an entirely new thread for this, and because I can't find a better location, I'll just ask this here:

Does anyone know of a way to stretch a web video to the size of the browser window? This isn't youtube (I think there is a specific youtube solution for this), but instead for watching video supplied by a BT Sport in the UK. The options are simply the smallish video (regular default youtube kinda size) or fullscreen. I like to multitask while watching a match, but have a better control of the video size. There's no way to access the video stream in, say, VLC or other 3rd party app, so I was hoping there'd be a browser method, plugin or otherwise...

Anyone any ideas? I've already tried the FullScreen Anything add-on for both Firefox and Chrome, but those seem to do the opposite and make the video tiny (while removing the rest of the page content).

It's been annoying me that there isn't a way to do this!

There's a bunch of Chrome extensions that purport to pop out video to a seperate resizable browser window. Maybe give them a go?

I have no personal experience with any though.

Thanks, they seem to be mostly service-specific (youtube, hulu, etc) but there's at least one that doesn't seem to be. I'll give it a shot and see if it lets me resize the video, rather than just the popped-out window itself.

Giving old systems a new or extended life is one of my favorite things. Something every tech should know these days is that SSDs in a meaningful size are now very cheap.

For example: My youngest uses a laptop from 2007 (coincidentally his birth year). It is SATA 2 (300Gbps) but Windows 10's most current patch level is completely bottlenecked to the point where it's not usable with the storage it came with. This machine has been reborn for the cost of $25, which bought a brand new 128GB SSD from Amazon.

The only other thing I've ever done with that machine is replace the aging thermal paste on the processor. It's a Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM. Really nothing special, but it sings now.

Yep, agreed. The single best upgrade you can do to any system, and the prices are now very reasonable, even for 500GB, which is often more than enough for most non-power users/gamers.

I'm not sure this old, abandoned thread really merits a sticky any longer. Unless we want to put together a new, maintained one. But the top post - and some of the info in it - is almost old enough to enlist and go off to boot camp.

With parental sign-off, they could ship today!

I'm gonna nix it, but encourage a new one if someone feels the need. I'm so out of touch, I don't even know what's 'good' anymore. Malware bytes still good? For all I know it could be yet another malware vector by now.

Maybe one for the road then? I discovered Microsoft PowerToys today, while looking for a solution to pin a window on-top (handy when in a Teams meeting for instance). But it has some other cool tools in there as well, like a bulk image resizer, or bulk renaming tools.

Fun fact: this tool was first mentioned in this thread in October 2004 by Stric9, for the ability to preview while alt-tabbing in Windows XP
