I'm too tired to be bothered scanning this one in so a photo will have to suffice

Day 5 - "The Farmer's (Tiefling) Daughter

I don't want to draw a chicken. Also, I'm stupid busy today. So I just drew a thing.

I really enjoy seeing people's postings. So impressive.

AC Odyssey seems to have arrived very suddenly. If a theme was going to get me to give the series another shot...

A whole Inktober based on AC Odyssey? That'd be cool.

No, no non ink related!

I meant Greek mythology skin on AC might tempt me to give the game a go. Was a side note.

Debating whether I should slack off tonight and draw an egg for breakfast!

Day 5: Vampire (unlimited time)

Uff. Faces are hard. Much to learn.

The anatomy of this makes my eyes scream but i don't want to spend ALL day on it!

Day 6 - "Thief"

Pyxi - Can I ask what you're doing to get the washed shading like that? Is that some sort of brush and liquid ink?

I'm finding shading with an ink pen challenging, unless I make it look like a sketch. I found this video, which seems helpful, but it'd be nice to be able to have other options.

It's liquid watercolour inks from Spectrum Noir... (so basically a water soluble ink you can use kind of like watercolour)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Spectrum-No...

But any liquid ink would do.

I'm not a HUGE fan of the stuff (it dries too fast and doesn't really blend) but i've got tubs of the stuff lying around so i might as well use it for something

Awesome, thank you much!

This has nothing to do with all the awesomeness of Inktober but I am pretty proud of it. It took me about 5 or 5 1/2 hours of a mix of modeling and sculpting:

Inktober Day 6: Death

I wanted to try a different type of shading, but it feels mixed up to me, and I don't think it worked for the background.

I found some tonal paper i'd forgotten about! so that changes things up a bit...

No 7 : "The Smithie's Son Daughter"

Kinda screwed up the sparks (shouldn't be there if the hammer is in the air) but whatever

Oh I like that one.

I'm falling a bit behind.

Day 7: Witch (unlimited time)

I'm so glad I'm doing this. This is super fun.

I wanted to go back to drawing a face, because well, practice. I can see some things I like better with this one compared to the vampire from a couple of days ago.

First go with the dip pen and ink...

Glad I'm doing this too GBlitz. Trying to get something done in limited time is making me move away from my usual random but time consuming doodlings. Doing some sketching that isn't just a work related rough page layout scribble for the first time in a long time. Must keep it going.

Looking good! That's a sharp looking chicken. Was the dip pen challenging to use?

I ordered some dip pens, ink, and brushes yesterday. I'm looking forward to giving them a go. Amazon messed up my Staedler pen shipment, but that should arrive soon too.

Dip pen really nice to use, freeing almost as barely had to press with the pen and flows smooth. Couple scribbles on a scrap of paper and had a crack at the chicken. I think I'm definitely going to have fun experimenting with different nibs. Hopefully you will too.

i need to break my dip pen out of whichever box it's been abandoned in. Been relying too much on pens of late. Maybe i'll use that for the next one.

i started on the next one ahead of time and i'm really liking how it's turning out, but i'll finish it up tomorrow

I've been using Inktober more as a warm up each day. A small notebook using an unforgiving medium and a cheap gel pen. Haven't been planning anything, just kind of rolling with whatever happens. Today I ended up making a friend's character in D&D.

I really didn't feel like doing anything today, but the whole point of this challenge is to do a drawing a day. So here's my corgi embodying the prompt "exhausted" done in markers.

day 8 - "Drunken Warrior"

IMAGE(https://smackfolio.files.wordpress.com/2018/10/img_58391.jpg)

...i totally didn't cut her off at the feet because I screwed up drawing the feet *innocent whistle*

This one is pretty squiffy...

Catching up with another quickie...

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/3LUrYV1.jpg)

I thought it would a good idea to add the colour by coating a fingertip with a Sharpie, licking it and then dab, dab, dab... Tasty it wasn't and probably not a technique to use too often.

Inktober Day 8: Ghost

Dip pens, ink, and brushes arrived today! I thought I'd try something simpler with easy lines and shading to see how they might work.

Two observations...

It strikes me that you need confidence to use dip pens—or at least you've got to pretend you've got confidence—to get any sort of clean line. If I found myself hesitating, or pausing, or redrawing, things got messy fast.

I'm having one issue where the dip pen seems to stick, pull apart and spatter ink on the drawing when I'm trying to draw at a certain angle (mainly going down from top right to bottom left of my right-handed stroke). An example of the result is at the bottom of this drawing, under the work "ghost". Is that normal for a beginner? Any tips on how to avoid it?

This is Apple, a character from my wednesday night D&D group played by bhchrist and DMed by Minotaar.

I started putting by Inktobers over an LED backlit tracing screen to take better pictures since I don't have a scanner. I finish drawings on the lit screen, though I really prefer the soft backing of drawing directly on a stack of papers for most of the drawing, and my pen tip seems to work better as well.

These photos are unfiltered, just taken with the a samsung phone. The screen really makes my cheap paper look amazing.

That backlit screen looks quite nice, and nice drawing!

One thing that I've found helpful for "scanning" without a scanner is the PhotoScan app by Google. It's fast, easy, and accurate. It gets results quite a bit better than taking a photo with your phone.
