Happy Palindrome day! I don’t know if today is actually palindrome day, or even if there is an official palindrome day, but there is an official Intellectual Property Day, so I’m going to go ahead and declare that today is Palindrome day. Go listen to Bob by Weird Al Yankovic and prepare to have your mind blown.

I don’t usually go in for hand-drawn platformers, but something about Flat Trip caught my eye. I love that everything in the game is animated, not just the main character and the enemies, and the art design sets it apart from the pack in a good way.

Generation Streets leverages real-world map data to create third-person shooter levels. Kind of like a reverse-ARG, you drive a flying tank around real-life maps and fight blobby enemies. The developer claims you can go to anywhere except for Antarctica and the North Pole, which is the kind of ambition I like to see from small development houses.

Grottesco Absurdus isn’t so much a game as a collection of minigames, but the diversity on display between them is what makes me sit up and take notice. It reminds me of the games at Orisinal, crossed with WTF from the PSP.

Sometimes you just want to jump on platforms and blow things up with fireballs, and HotHead delivers. Simple, early-1990’s gameplay without the pseudo retro pixel graphics. Will it be any good? Who knows? The gameplay footage I looked at point to “yes,” so it makes my list of watchables.

Criminal Pursuit Force has “generic Unity asset” written all over it, but it’s nice to see someone going for whole Lucky and Wild motif. You play the law in hot pursuit of various crooks, and if Bleeding Edge Studios can pack some fun driving mechanics in there, then they might have something worth buying. If not, they might have something worth streaming, so it’s win-win.

This week I’m going for the family pick. Super Mario Party is something my son has been itching to play for a while now. We’ve even got it pre-ordered. I’ve never played a Mario Party game before, but as the dad of the house,I look forward to modeling gracious losing for the next generation of DoubtingThomases.

Super Mario Party gets my nod for game of the week.

We’re rounding the corner into Traditional Vidjagames Blockbuster Season and already some of the big names are turning out. Some will be excited by Mega Man 11, others: WWE 2K19 or Super Mario Party.

For me, though, it’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I’m on record as being on-again and off-again with this series – after 13 games, can you blame me? Suffice it to say, I get more interested when I hear about changes to the Creed formula, rather than less. This time around, it looks like they’re hoping that a cup and a half of BioWare will leaven it up. There’ll be dialogue choices, romance options, branching stories and a choice of male or female player character. There’s further change to the combat, which seems to be more about building up adrenaline to unleash more powerful, room-clearing moves. Also there’s factions to align with, and you can take part in larger battles. I don’t know if this puts you in the third rank of a slowly-advancing phalanx, but hey.

It all sounds promising enough, but underneath I have misgivings. I love the ancient Greek setting, but I also loved the ancient Egypt setting of Origins and yet that entry sits atop my Pyramid of Shame, because it was still packed with the patented Ubi busy-work. Odyssey is definitely the game I’m most curious about this week, I’m just not sure if I’ll end up finishing it.

You're right about the releases picking up.

I may not be ready to Party - cause I have no friends, and the Baby Stevintendos are still too young - but I am ready to Rock, Man.

but there is an official Intellectual Property Day

I hate you for sending this info into my brain.

Would you look at that! The Surge: The Good, the Bad, and the Augmented. That seems to have come out of the blue... At least for me. Trying to find info on whether it's a stand-alone piece or part of the "Complete" editon, but I can't get a clear statement on that. Guess I'll wait till tomorrow when it pops up on the store.

Hello! Forza Horizon 4, PC/Xbox, release date today!

I mean, I know it's an obscure series from a tiny publisher, but come on, folks.

And there's my answer; store shows it as a separate piece of DLC rather than part of the "complete" edition.

Animated Jigsaws: Japanese Women.

What?

I'd try to help, but I've learned not to google unfamiliar titles at work.

I bet it is exactly what it says on the box.

Lots of games could learn to be as honest in their titles.

I looked it up. It does exactly what it says on the tin, and it's probably 80% less pornographic than I'd expected.

Sorry - pure driving games are totally outside my vision cone. I'm sure the Game King will give it a shout out though.

Bing found some interesting pictures. Some were of a videogame.
Some were not but did have women doing stuff.
