The Playstation Vita Catch-All

Battery is great. I bought a 64gb card which was more than my phone at the time but paid through the nose for it of course. I recommend using a web browser and the add on that allows you to search and filter your psn library according to criteria you specify (such as by platform, ps+ titles). Can't remember the name of the top of my head but I can check it later if you're interested.

Yes please. Does it filter by size of memory card slice?

Highly recommended.

I think the only way Sony could ever do another portable is if they did a PS4 Portable which could straight up play all your PS4 game library at 720p and function like a PS4. I don't think the hardware would be there for a few years at which point it would be too late.

I doubt this will be a thing as the hardware wasn't optimized for battery life. You'll end up with a Sega Nomad eating 6 AAs in 1.5 hours.

How about a dedicated remote play device? With all the DS4 buttons and a "stronger" WiFI chip/antenna? Maybe we'll get that as a companion product with the PS5 with better optimized software (or hardware) for remote play streaming from the PS5 itself?

Thanks, I shall plug it in.

What are the chances of someone cracking the Vita and making it into an emulation machine, as has been done with the PSP?

My understanding is it's cracked, but only to a certain firmware, with no way to downgrade. It's possible that scene is sitting on cracks till Sony ends support. They just released a firmware patch this month.

I decided the Vita was my machine for when I went on cruises. Finally finished Root Letter on my way to Alaska this year.

Lots of people already seem to be using it like that but I think I'll wait until the last firmware is released and I (mostly) finish buying and playing Vita games on it.

They have released a Remote Play application for Mac and Windows that requires a DS4 be connected, and most of their Android devices ship with a version of an app as well. They don't need to create a dedicated streaming client at this point.

John here with an an aged OG 3G Fat boy Vita OLED. If you are like me and you actually turn it on it; the battery is bad and you might get the battery glitch. You can be like me and change the battery. It was a "fairly" easy process. There is about 10 screws in total to get through. It takes a little of finesse to pop the rear touch pad off . Putting it all back together was the literal worse part of it all. Scary.

I've found replacement batteries do not hold a charge well at all. Not sure if they're just really aged like they've been sitting in a warehouse for the last 10 years or something. I've bought two third party batteries. I guess I shouldn't say they don't work, they charge up fine and hold a charge, they just get drained within a couple days of sitting idle.

That sounds disappointing to say the least. I will see if it is worth keeping the old battery or not.

In my case, my Vita actually got water damage and required a few more parts replaced, battery included, so I couldn't save the original. I half assume the cheaper knockoff batteries I've purchased are just not great quality. I don't recall finding a genuine Sony replacement battery for a reasonable price though

I got a new WiFi router (Nighthawk X10) recently so I thought I'd see if that improved remote play on my Vita. It was either the same or marginally improved.

So again frustrated I went back to researching what else I could do. One thing I had seen previously recommended was to unplug the HDMI cable which seemed both pointless and would be an ongoing pain to do. Reading further though unplugging HDMI is the equivalent of disabling HDCP in the system settings.

I found disabling that setting to significantly improve remote play performance on the Vita. I was able to play Zero Dawn with only minor frustrations and unlike before there wasn't a persistent "bad connection" icon displayed. The downside is the PS4 is our DVD Bluray player so if I don't remember to turn it back on then Trolls or Frozen won't play and someone will be unhappy. As others have commented the PS4 would preferably automatically enable HDCP as needed.

I’m excited about the 3.69 hack coming out in March ish. The prospect of using the DS4 and SD memory cards soon makes me happy.

Twitter The Flow0
He plans on releasing it at the “end of life” for the vita and people speculate that it will be March 2019. If you didn’t update, you can hack the vita already without any drama. Literally plug in the vita to your pc and run code.

Huh, I'll have to check which firmware I'm on when I get home.

SD cards?!? Finally!

I've been frustrated too so I'll give this a try.

Although, I've yet to connect the PS4 to the router via cable because it's a tricky run, but I suspect that's the #1 culprit.

Do you have your PS4 cable-connected to your router?

Yeah, I've always had the PS4 hardwired.

Gotcha; I'll see what I can do in that regard.

Turns out I did indeed have HDCP enabled. I turned it off and I'll see how things go. Thanks for posting that tip.

Right now the vita has been brought back from retirement as the console I toss in the bag for work. The battery I replaced is working really well. The thing is holding a decent charge.

Also got a second used 2000 coming soon. I hope it is the "right" firmware so I can do some dirt and backup my games/saves.

I did this for a while. I was in a mood to play Stardew Valley and the Vita was just so much more portable.

My slim is still kicking, though the only time I use it with any regularity is when we go on trips or visit relatives- I like my Switch but the ridiculously poor battery life has seriously deterred me from taking it out of the house.
After this news broke I found myself on Amazon contemplating picking up a spare Vita for the future.

Amazon has some of the Japanese colors for about 100 used.

I’ve done the same thing: currently Disgaea 4, but I’ve still got a pile of excellent games to work through. Not bad for a ‘dead’ platform.

Since it's official death makes me sad that Sony won't take a another stab at this whole sub genre of console. Still hope the hackers give it a long life.

Every time this thread rises I feel the need to dig out my Vita from the drawer.

I'm about due for a Speedball 2 cup run!

I got a 2000 era Japanese Vita. Light blue on the back with white on the front. It is in decent condition. Big old points off for the back touched looked like someone slide the darn thing across the floor several times and dirty to boot. But the front is clean with some deep scratches on the right side.

I've only had the original so holding this one is a trip. It is half the weight of the original. The screen is good. I probably could tell the screens apart side by side with the 1000 but it is probably minimal. Since it is lighter it is nicer to hold and play with the grooves on the back.

The charger being micro USB is so good. I don't need the speciality cable is fantastic.

The start and select buttons being nice and round and easier to hit. The buttons feel on par to the original.

The smooth plastic is a decent finish to it.

You may not need the 2000 but it is a decent slim.

No need for apologies, every time I remember how much I like the Vita.

A micro USB... That sounds sweet. The battery lasts a long time still on my original, but that charging set up takes up half our gaming bits n bobs drawer.
