Call of Duty Black Ops 4 - Catch All

Wait, are people able to get into the beta without a pre-order?

On the PC they've had open beta starting 1 day after the pre order crowd. So yea anyone has been able to play. So the open beta for Blackout will be starting on the 15th.

Updates after day 1 (PS4).

Also it looks like they've change the player count from 80 to 88

Item Pickups: We’ve seen several comments suggesting that the item pickup time is slower than expected. We’ll be updating the game to make pickup speeds as fast as possible without interfering with reloading, and make it easier to pick up items without looking directly at them. PC players will also be able to map keys to instantly pick up items when the Blackout Beta goes live on PC later this week.

Quick Equip Menu: Some players have had trouble performing certain actions while the Quick Equip menu is open. We have two fixes set to go live around 10AM PT tomorrow (Tuesday) that will help with this: Quick Equip will auto-close if you don't do anything in it for 5 seconds, and auto-close and prevent from opening when using the Recon Car. For future reference, the Quick Equip menu can be closed by pressing down on the d-pad.

Armor: Much like the early days of the MP Beta, we’ve seen some online discussion about the utility of Armor in Blackout. We’re keeping a close eye on Armor’s performance during the Beta.

Friendly Fire: We’re aware that friendly fire allows your teammates to take you out – by mistake, or in some unfortunate circumstances, on purpose. While we always recommend choosing your Duo and Quad partners wisely, we’ll keep an eye on teamkilling throughout the Beta and consider other options. We’re also collecting stats on players who damage their teammates with friendly fire and have a security team monitoring those players for offenses that are outside the bounds of the occasional accident. Play nice out there.

We’ve also got some additional tips to help make your Blackout experience as epic as possible:

Infiltration: To achieve maximum distance when dropping onto the map in your wingsuit, try pointing straight down until you hit 60 meters/second, then level out. Pulling up past the horizontal position will cause your descent to slow.

Heal on the Move: You don’t need to stop moving to heal! This can be a real game-changer when you’re under fire and low on health.

Weapon Breakdown: Need to drop your weapon’s attachments quickly? Try hovering the cursor over your weapon in your inventory, then drop all attachments to break your weapon down.

Base-Jumping Off Structures / Re-deploying Wingsuits: There’s been some confusion out there about how to re-deploy your wingsuit to base jump during a match. Make sure that you’re high enough above the ground and simply sprint towards your desired location, then press and HOLD the jump button.

Thanks. If I have time on Saturday I'm going to try to give that a go.

Despite my concerns I mentioned in the other thread I still thought the Battle Royale looked pretty good. Be interesting to see how these big gaming companies do with these modes. I haven't played a CoD game since my 360 days. If I do pick it up I'd prefer to get it on my high end PC rather than my OG PS4 that is chugging along. How have these games been on PC?

The latest one, WWII, has been a fun one to play and they've had solid updates. This was their 'boots on the ground' version. This like everything else i bounced off of to play PUBG, but started coming back to it over the past 4-6 months for a palate cleanser or a quick match or two before jumping over to something else. Ended up with over 220 hours into it. If there were any initial issues at launch i missed them.

Prior to that was Infinite Warfare and that was a complete sh*t-show. IMO the worst one ever to be released. They completely ignored the community and doubled down on the microtransaction PTW bullsh*t. Even the campaign was uninspired.

I could keep going, but the common denominator is even when it was at its worst the gunplay itself has always been solid and just what you'd expect. They've made significant improvements for BO4 in the recoil model and the way they're handling guns and in the Blackout mode they added in ballistics to the mix. As a long time CoD player i'm excited for the regular game and the BR mode. Just from watching the feeds my only concern is TTK and that's something that can be easily adjusted.

I really hope they change the looting system on the PC version. I know another studio is doing the PC version so I have high hopes.

Let me see if I understand this right, as I’ve never played a CoD before. All I see about 4 is the BR mode, but this game also has a team mode like Counterstrike or Rainbow Six, and a Co-Op game like Left 4 dead?

I suck at BR, but the chance to improve is the addiction. $60 is steep though, but if it’s functionally 3 games in one, two of which I’d me marginally interested in... a tough call.

Yea it's always been 3 modes for a CoD: BlackOps game. In the past it's been a story campaign, zombie mode (which have been extremely well made and a lot of fun), and multiplayer. There's different modes in multiplayer which are similar to the CS or RB6 model, but the most popular has always been it's TDM. This year they're skipping the campaign for the BR mode.

Some find the super quick pace and run/gun style of play of the multiplayer isn't their cup of tea. Personally i normally play the objective modes which slows it down just a small bit. This year they actually have 2 new objective modes which are a lot of fun.

Watch an hour of COD Blackout on Twitch, get in the beta a day early

I'm disappointed Doc is not on this list. Shroud it is then

Shroud,Summit, and Tim are all fine choices. As long as it's not Ninja.

My pocketbook would be so much more full if I quit reading these updates. Always get sucked into games that I don't even intend on buying. This looks like fun even though I am very bad at these types of games (maybe all types).

I am in. Prepurchased on the PC. Likely just for BR.

If folks are having issues with inviting and joining parties or crashing when entering the lobby. Make sure you have an open NAT and/or that you whitelist the game in your virus software/firewall.

To check your NAT goto Settings/Interface and click on the Edit button for Network and it will let you know.

One of our earlier matches Kazar says 'hey Shroud is in our match'! 2 seconds later Escher 'I just killed Shroud'!

My PC was ancient when PUBG came out and it always looked too janky for my tastes anyway. Fortnite never interested me particularly the building garbage. But, this looks really good. The only reason I might not go for it is the price point. It seems like $60 is way too high for what will certainly only be the BR mode for me. I don't know how much time I'll be able to put into it this weekend but maybe I can play enough to sway me on the price.

EdgarNewt and I took first in our very first Duo. Was a lot of fun, but typical CoD mechanics. Bunny hopping and bullet sponges.

Just don't let him have molotov's..

@Esher77 Found the part of chocoTaco's stream where you were fighting them. Escher77 vs Shroud

I need to figure out the graphics settings a little bit better. The combination of the bob, the color density and the brightness, I think, triggered a migraine in me yesterday. Hopefully I can figure it out, because I had a lot of fun with the three games I played. Definitely not used to the speed of the game, but that actually interests me more than the speed of PUBG. Just need some reps to get better.

Downed, not killed but fun either way. 100% got greedy and wanted to finish and ran up to do so and got owned by flow.

I know I'm probably the resident apologist/fan for CoD games, but i'm enjoying the hell out of this already and feel it's a step above PUBG already even with some of the issues it has. This just 'feels' good.

I thought it would be good but not put a dent in my love of PUBG. I was wrong. There is something to be said for good net. Ode — or the perception/presentation of good net code. Not once did I feel like a bullet bent around a corner to get me; my losses felt like I was fairly beat.

I do wish for a few changes though:
1. Let me shoot out individual tires of vehicles or the rotor of the helicopter. Otherwise vehicles are just epic BS (see 2 below).
2. Decrease the bullet sponge (BS) nature of players.
3. Improve directional audio — still feels like their are too many false directional footfalls.
4. I wish it was a slightly bigger map. I want a few more places to target for drops. After one day, I feel like i have seen 95% of what the map has to offer.
5. (This is on me) I need to understand the guns better. What crazy ass names ATVI uses.

I am worried about what I am going to play between the end of the beta and launch. PUBG seems so broken to me now.

The following is not directed at BO4 directly, it is just my most recent example:

Dear Developers, I have played FPS's since the dawn of the genre. I enjoy straight shooters as well as tactical shooters. If your game has even a slight tactical bent, please, for the love of dog, figure out a way to penalize/remove bunny-hopping. Watching a HB50 wielding player, bunny-hop his way to victory is infuriating. Add a pause when landing, lower accuracy after a jump, make the hit box larger when jumping, something, anything to stop this tactic from being viable in a tactical-type game.

I’d agree with those points. I had much more honest fun playing this than I have at PUBG. The speed of the game helps. I can see some tweaking needed, but I think it’s starting on a very solid foundation. I don’t even mind getting killed in this game because the action doesn’t stop from the moment you drop; I’ve done stuff the entire time. No 10 minute search for a gun or running before you see one person. I get my graphics issues worked out, I can see myself playing a lot of this game.

I really hope the whole "Party Full," "Lobby is Unjoinable" thing works itself out before launch. Four of us wasted a good 10 minutes all trying to join up with each other, only to get frustrated and quit.

In the social screen there's an option to limit your party size and for some reason that can be set to 2 or 1.

You can't get to this screen if you're already in a party is the stupid thing.

Beta code - pls post if you claim: TZSY-9T8XR-FSBV

Enjoying this game. Lot more action than pubg. Easy to find equipment quickly and fire fights happen right away in squad mode. Fun.

I'm feeling dumb. The open beta started this morning, right? I'm not seeing any way to access it without redeeming a code, which I thought was only for early access to the beta.

edit: ah, have to have battle.net the app, not the website.

Enjoying it a lot so far and looking forward to release. I think they have a good thing going for this and it will be fun to see how they expand it.
