NFL 2018: Week 1 Thread (Sort of)

Well that happened.

I hate Monday Afternoon Football.

Oh good, Matt Patricia didn't get rid of Jim Bob Cooter.

I have numerous friends from San Diego including a coworker who used to be employed by the San Diego Chargers back in the days of Junior Seau and Ryan Leaf. They all say the same thing. That San Diego is just not a football town. There is way too much other stuff to do and the interests of the population can never support a team. Considering they had been their so long AND considering Los Angeles has had numerous teams in that span, it is really unsurprising that they don't really have a hometown fan base on which to draw.

When you can surf 350 days a year...

Lions convert a 3rd-and-1 on the ground! :O

It is necessarily a good idea to liken Darnold to an F-35?

Somebody either needs to tell Beth Mowins to stop yelling or tell the other guy to stop mumbling. I can't hear the other guy without Mowins blowing out my speakers. Although, given the state of ESPNs "talent" pool, I'm not sure I want to hear what he has to say anyway.

ESPN's B-Team always needs a designated yeller.

Turn out the lights, the party's over.

That’s embarrassing

Booger McFarland's fingers do not all point in the same direction.

I feel like someone is about to get punched in the face.

It's probably because I hear Joe Tessitore though.

Seriously though, that Jared Cook play made me realize how much I associate his excited voice with someone about to hit canvas.

Couldn't they just have Frank Caliendo impersonate Gruden in the booth?

My life as a Lions fan right now

When did Derek Carr become so awful? This is hard to watch.

Edit: Well, Marcus Peters just made it even harder to watch.

Carr's big year in 2016 is peak Carr. The fear is that last year wasn't just because of an injury and was indeed regression to the mean for him.

That said, it'd be nice if his team had anything resembling a real defense.

It was a really bad week for new head coaches.

Ah, he's the gift that keeps giving:

Poor, poor Nathan Peterman though. How he's gonna sleep the rest of his life knowing he's had two of the worst passing performances of all time is beyond me. The kid managed exactly 0 first downs in almost three quarters of play. That's insane.

Did Gruden just wink at me?

Three quarters, 7 interceptions, two fumbles, and zero first downs. The only way it could be worse is if he were Asian and had to carry the weight of representing his race.

Giving [Andy] Reid a smart, athletic, big-armed quarterback like Mahomes is like giving Jon Gruden a franchise player to trade away: The possibilities are endless.

Those are the kind of dumb decisions Mitch "Mitchell" Trubisky made at Carolina.

I wonder how long it'll take the fan boys to get off the Trubisky train.

Wait, folks think Matt Stafford is a good QB?

Then I guess the answer to my question is ... never.

It's amazing how bad Stafford's week 1 was compared to his recent trends. He only threw 10 INTs total each of the last two seasons, below 2% INT rate. Now he has 4 for this season after 1 week.

Hopefully things don't improve for him next week, as they play the Niners.
