NFL 2018: Week 1 Thread (Sort of)

OMG Tyrod Taylor throws the ball up for an INT and blows the chance to get into game winning FG range.

The one and only reason he's starting is because he's supposed to be the opposite of Kizer, but he practically pissed the game away just like Kizer. Might as well have kept Kizer.

Oh and that was totally a shutout. The field goal was a gift. The PI was total bs

I don't remember where I heard it recently (TNF? college games yesterday?) but Chip Kelly was talking about how close things are in the NFL (vs college). He had a stat that basically was the odds of scoring on a given drive boiled down to explosive plays:

- Get a 16yd pass or 12yd run and you will score 50% of the time
- Fail to do either and your scoring chances are 9%

This also explains, in some ways, the value of bend defenses, like mid-decade Legion of Boom which never gave up big plays and let you dink/dink yourself to eventually punting.

I've been watching football today with this stat in mind and it's kinda fun.

Miami still leading.

Only conceded three points in six hours.

Someone could have torn a hammie and have been healed by the time that game ends.

Back to back interceptions. Two hours apart.

There's some stat out there showing that when you have multiple explosive plays your chances of winning are astronomical, like 90% or something.

With Mahomes, Hill, and Hunt, along with a horrid defense, the Chiefs will be testing this trend a lot this year.

Don't rain on his non-loss parade.

And Jerry Jones gets up and leaves his suite as Prescott fumbles away their last chance to come back. Perfect end to a great Sunday afternoon of football.

Gotta beat that Charlotte traffic!

Talk about pyrrhic victories, tho. Panthers lost TE Greg Olsen, RT Darryl Williams (one of two, maybe three competent O-line starters) and a few others. Not a rousing start for the Panthers except for the W.

I hate football.

Right there with you.

I thought the Sunday night bloodbaths were on hold until Game of Thrones came back next year.

Edit: Also, the Raiders are run by f*cking idiots.

I like the way the Bears look, but I hate to see Rodgers get hurt.

Remember what Vic Fangio did with Aldon Smith?

He just got his new Aldon Smith, with even more talent and 100% less of a head case.

I bet Mack's sack totals are going to be a lot closer to peak Aldon soon. Mack had "only" 11.0 and 10.5 sacks the last two years.

Is Rodgers wearing the world's skinniest knee brace? Collinsworth is not sure.

It's a couple of tongue depressors taped together

Aaron Rodgers is taking this game back.

3 point game now. Trubisky needs to stop being boring.

How the f*ck do you go 8-of-11 and get only 26 yards?

Davante Adams is for realsies. 99 dance moves rating.

Dammit I love those. Did we forget to do it here this year?

Randall f-ing Cobb

Ok, I love football again!
