Path of Exile catch-all

For me, it depends on what kind of build you have. For example, if you're heavy into evasion, armor doesn't really matter as much. So I tend to pick armor to boost my selected strengths, and only occasionally to fill a gap (because it takes more than one item to give you a decent boost in something).

Pick your style - avoidance, tanking, life and regeneration, heavy offense, elemental or physical defense, and then pick gear to make it as strong as possible.

is path of building supposed to let me view the imported skill tree at a given level? the Gui implies such but changing the level does not change anything else.

okay i'm lost, how do I get to/farm the constrictor

. The Elder will spawn on the player's Atlas once at least 20 maps are influenced.

wut?

At least 20 maps need to be influenced by Elder - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZJM...

Started the league with a Lab Runner (Champion Totems) and built up decent currency quickly (although not from gems this league but enchants). Moved over to the arc trap meta and had a blast playing it. Fast and melts everything, including bosses. Killed Uber Elder a few times this week after remembering the fight mechanics and now waiting for the race next month.

I might want to do one of those cool skeleton or zombie builds and would love to know if anyone played one this league and how it was.

Also, I love ARPG's and have played POE, Diablo series, Titan quest, Grim Dawn, Van Helsing, Torchlight but am wondering if there's anything new on the horizon (or out that I could be playing)? Went back to play season 14 of Diablo yesterday and frankly, I'm just wishing Diablo was more POE...lol.

Diablo is in a holding pattern, that's for sure. Given that they're rumoured to be recruiting for D4 we can only assume they're looking at more innovative ARPG's out there, like PoE, and cribbing/perfecting other peoples ideas, Blizzard style. (not complaining about that by the way, they do it better than anyone!)

You could give Drox Operative a try.

Finally got a red map Elder spawn on a T13 map. Figured it would be easy game after my warchief guy had no problems last league. I've got a well geared (~9200 life, 6 link RF helm) RF Chieftain that can easily roll over T15 maps. I'm on my 3rd try now and haven't got him to 50% health yet. I can't take care of the squids fast enough to keep the black death floor from eventually flooding the area. I've also tried focusing solely on damaging the Elder as quickly as possible. Again, I can't get him down before the squids make a mess of things. The Elder fight seems to highlight the huge weakness of RF. You need to be right next to something to hurt it. I can hurt the squids or the elder, but not both. The other big problem is that Scorching Ray allows me to increase my damage, but standing still in this fight isn't recommended.

Any suggestions or anyone that wants to help me kill Elder in a T13 Park map?

Just watched gameplay and I have no idea how I missed that one. Looks like a ton of fun. Thanks for the heads up.

gave up on ssf hc. hc in particular the lack of pause plus so many things that kill me before i know i'm about to be hit . That the game seems so focused on multiple play throughs to learn of the fights does not encourage hc either imho . I know its doable but a poor match for me/my current state I guess. Looking forward to getting through the game without the added stress now.

Well, that’s why it has so many modes. And don’t forget to hit the Guild Bank for extras to help you along. I hope you enjoy it!

New league at the end of the month. This time, mine-based speed gameplay with a boss at the end of each encounter. Also, fancy loots!

I like the whole league idea. Just can never devote the time needed to do one properly.

Some nice quality of life changes changes coming in the next League (starts this weekend):

Added a new system to handle high-level players playing with lower-level party members in lower-level areas. High-level players are downscaled, making the area more challenging, and allowing the lower-level players to get an appropriate amount of experience and currency. Previously, the lower-level players would have had their experience gains and currency finds penalised if the level gap was significant. This scaling applies only in areas at or below level 67, and is an optional feature for party play.
Added a new tooltip which, when hovering over a support gem, shows which currently-equipped skills can and cannot be supported by it. This includes skills built into items and skills whose functionality has been changed by another support (such as a spell supported by the Trap Support gem).
Items filters are now capable of displaying minimap icons and lightbeams for specific categories of items, making them much harder to miss.

and I like this change too:

Zana's missions have been updated. Now when you encounter her, she will offer a selection of different maps and mission types for you to choose from. The maps she offers are always the same tier of the map you are currently in or one higher. This selection can include Shaped maps. The maximum Tier of maps she can now offer as part of a mission is Tier 16.

Did they put delves in Standard - non league?

Anyone have a bunch of currency/maps/shards they dont use in "Standard"? I know some folks only play the leagues when they come up.

Sure, Agu. Ping me the next time we're both on.

I'm really enjoying the little delving I've done so far. I think I like the mechanic.

Im playing Standard again - the new league delve is ok, but Im not a fan of the buy in mechanic and the Delves are so short compared to the Diablo GRIFTS and you cant really farm a delve "level" for gear. I do like some of the new Skills though Consecrated Path is nice as is Herald of Purity.

Ill be playing/streaming, if any of you none-standard players want to pass on some currency yall aint useing. Ill be on Discord as well.

Eh, the buy-in is negligible for me, and the loot is doled out nicely over 3 or 4 runs done sequentially. I think it's designed for that sort of bursty play, not just one run at a go. I've seen two mines in one of the prison levels; that bodes well, I'm usually over 20 of the mineral, so its easy to just take a break and run the tunnels for a bit.

I'm only around level 20 in delve. Got a 4 link item so now I'm ready. So far it seems fun enough. I like the little special encounters and the different types of loot they have.

I'm really liking the new Zana quests on my standard guys. They're great fun and I got to do some breaches and a harbinger. Does anyone here have advice for a marauder build using a Disfavor, Belly, Death's Door, 2 socket abyss gloves and a cyclone enchanted Devoto's? I'm having a lot of trouble finding a viable Physical cyclone build but have a character geared and leveled in standard to make it happen.

I want to jump back into this and try out the new league but I always get stuck at the character creation on this game. I don't like having to figure out what I'm going to be from the start. I really wish they would let you change things whenever you want instead forcing you into decisions right from the start.

Any suggestions on a build that isn't too graphic/lag intensive on older hardware? Minimal summons, effects, etc.

My friend linked me to this video that has a brief overview and link to a bunch of different builds. Found it helpful when I started yesterday.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giHV...

That is my problem though, I don't want to have to pick a specific build. What I want is to play the game, then when I get some cool unique loot say "I really like this weapon I think I'll make a build around it". Instead what you have to do is roughly pick what you want to do and then focus on getting the right equipment for it. All they have to do is let you change your skill tree whenever you want instead of giving you a handful of respec points as this game would be perfect.

I can understand that. Free respecs should be a thing in every rpg.

Pizzaddict, I play that way all the time. I just store the gear until I'm ready to start another character. Then I delete someone.

This game is not designed for "free respecs", though. I think there are very good reasons for PoE not to go that route. It's soooo easy to start a new char and get going quickly, and there are so many decent options, that the only real issue comes in if you want to completely, totally, min-max your character with specific gear and traits and gems. In that case, well, getting one thing wrong and not noticing it until you can't respec it would ruin your day, but then, you're self-imposing the penalty.

Consider... You're gonna respec from, say, two single-handed weapons to sword-and-board, because you found a great 1-handed sword and had a nice shield lying around. What's the next thing you do? You change out your skill gems. But then the complaint becomes "Now I have to wait to get that special gem, if this game only gave us the ability to buy all the gems outright, it'd be perfect!". So now we have unlimited gems. But then you'll get some good gems, but won't have the gear to use them? Why not just let people buy slots in-game on items, then color them? What about just making their own weapons and gear (which, actually, has been tried in a limited way recently)? The point is that if the game is taken to be completely respec-able, then the same logic says it would just become a "click and buy" game. Which would take all the interest out.

It's a loot game. Loot games have to have item and skill limits to make them interesting and to allow synergies to have real, noticeable value. This one is put together a bit differently from Diablo and Grim Dawn, but it's limitations work well. If you like complete respecs, play Diablo III. You'll see what I mean; once you build out a set of armor and weapons, and play through the story in a few short hours, you'll be GRifting. That's your game at that point; or, starting another character. ...Which is what Path of Exile skews towards.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I love all these games. But I don't think they should all be the same, mechanically. Not even broadly similar.

And I admit that PoE's trait map leaves me in awe of its complexity.

The other option is to play the character until level 80 or so. That is long enough to learn the game and it's mechanisms. Most builds aren't really coming into their own until the early 80's; that's where the fun is. If you do play into the 80's, you'll have enough currency for a respec with a little trading. You can try a completely different approach for ~70 scouring orbs.

Dual strike, sunder, or war chief
