Wake Forest trying to lose at Tulane.

Tie game, 3 min, Green Wave ball.

The Fightin' Texas Aggies start their football season tonight, by Jimbo!

Beat the hell outta Northwestern State! 7:30pm Central on the SEC Network.

That 7-0 first quarter is SO Jimbo. Nice to see that the team picked up the pace after that.

Great game last night, now I can just sit back and enjoy all the football tomorrow!

Not a lot of quality on Saturday unless you think a 13-10 Michigan-Notre Dame game is worth staying up for.

The Sunday night and Monday night games are where it's at.

Speaking of, this old man can barely make it to halftime of a game that kicks at 8 p.m.

That's why they play the games, Enix. You never know what Saturday might bring.

Washington - Auburn is the only top ten matchup of the weekend, I believe. Enix, you need to knock the rust off! There are a ton of preview articles you can cheat from!

OU vs whatever Florida team Joey Freshwater coaches interests me. So does the longhorns traveling to Maryland, who upset them last year in Austin. Bama - Louisville?

"You never know what Saturday might bring" is Wake's motto. I think Vandy uses it, too.

Another year another season of Cal football. As far as the Pac-12 goes we are a pretty veteran group with a returning QB, RB and offensive line, as well as most of the D coming back.

Despite that we play in a division that has 3 top-25 teams (UW, furd, Oregon). I think most are predicting 6.5 - 7.0 wins with a crappy bowl at the end. Enough to get fired in the SEC and build a statue at Cal.

As i have for the last 14 years since I moved back to the west coast, I'm ready for another year of Cal football, season tickets in hand. Despite 1-win seasons, historically bad defenses, 1 bowl in the last 7 seasons, and no rose bowl in 60 years, I'm there. Yes its hard, but in the words of JFK

We choose to go to [Cal Football]! We choose to go to [Cal Football] in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too.

Of course we have put a Man on the Moon before Cal has gone to another Rose Bowl... oh and Rice has beaten Texas twice during that time (I didn't know this was also in the speech but it seems apropos). So I guess some things are harder than others.. those NASA scientists had it easy (and many probably even went to Cal and still couldn't figure out how to get to the Rose Bowl).

Texas continues to step on their own d*cks. If you know your offensive line was a problem all last year, why the he'll didn't you focus on that in recruiting? Nabbing an under armor all American rb does you no good if you have no holes up front.

On the bright side, the replacement for your all-world punter is getting a lot of practice!

Yo Carl. Does today's game count? Looks like Cal imported a Division 8 team from somewhere in the Carolinas for its home opener.

I think the Heels are crippled by the lack of decent BBQ out your way. That, and the fact that they didn't pack their offense.

17-0 Cal. And UNC just dropped a TD pass. Wow.

No wonder Enix said there wasn't anything good on today.

Maryland upset the horns for the second year in a row. Auburn - Washington is tight as hell.

Enix? I'll give him a pass on being wrong about week one.

App State in OT!

Louisville needs to get some help counting players... 4 penalties for 12 on the field with the second quarter barely begun.

Tua is fun to watch.

Yeah nice of Nick to put Hurts in and keep it close in the 2nd.

Yeah... Most of the time he doesn't like to run up the score.

Wait a minute, a van Gorder defense doesn’t know what they’re doing? Would never have guessed.

Congrats on the nice win, sloth.

Well, Cal with zero offense wins its first game 24-17. We actually dominated for 3.5 quarters, being up 24-3 until we gave up a late TD then UNC recovered an onside and scored again.

While our D and particularly our secondary, looked great, our Offense is bad. All 3 of our dressed QBs played. Whether that was by design or by choice isn't clear but none of them impressed. Bad decision making, and bad throws all around. Our WRs couldn't get much separation either. Even more worrisome was our O-Line wasn't making it easier for our QBs or our running game either, and that was expected to be a strength of our team.

While our D may be able to keep us in games a lot longer than in the Dykes years when we would just give up 24 points before we knew what hit us, we need to be able to score points.

Congrats, Carl!

Ohh, I don't know. Demetris Robertson looked really fast and dangerous on that long jet sweep touchdown.

What?

Too soon?

heh. Honestly if he was on this team he could be open by 5 yards and our QBs wouldn't be able to hit him. But yes, that play was tweeted to Cal social media to give us some misery to go along with our victory.

Top ten update:

Washington down to Auburn.
Miami losing badly to LSU.

Other ranked teams losing include the longhorns losing to an unranked team that hasn't beaten a ranked non-longhorn team in ages, led by an interim coach.

A DINO BABERS TEAM RAN FOR 300 YARDS SYRACUSE BEATS DIRECTIONAL MICHIGAN NATIONAL TITLE HERE WE COME

(No seriously, five more wins. Bowl eligibility, that's all I'm looking for right now.)

Like we (some of us anyway) say every year, pre-season rankings are garbage and actually hurt the final rankings. Every year.

And it never got better.

I love how every year for the last decade or so "Miami is back", yet they can never even win the much weaker ACC division.

Don't believe the hype, ever.

Yeah, thanks. I feel good about this one. It wasn’t really as close as the score suggests, either.

The Michigan D is probably the best ND will see all year, and we went up 21-3 before getting conservative on offense. It might be the best by far depending on...USC?

ND’s O-line is young at tackle, and the Michigan DEs had their way with them at times, but they will do that with a lot of teams this year!

Taking one of my boys to see ND-Vanderbilt in 2 weeks. Should be fun!

Tennessee is the only SEC team to mar an otherwise undefeated record. C'mon, Vols!

And come on, Virginia Tech!

Hell no, we are going to have to be better than last year with He who must not be named.
