SCUM

Been watching the updates about this game for awhile. It seems ambitious, but i'm going to take a peak on the 29th and see. One of the cool new things they're trying this game is a 3rd person view that takes away the advantage you get by seeing around corners.

SCUM - is it just another Battle Royal game?
Short answer - no.

Long answer - SCUM is much more than that. It takes the best features from various survival games and combines them into a huge, “do as you wish” sandbox game. It will be among the first games to provide you with a choice between hardcore survival and action filled events.

One day you might feel like only wandering around the map, scavenging, improving your character and casually meeting other players (similar to DayZ). But the choice of spicing things up will always be there, with constant events organized across the map. Players can check the upcoming events, such as CTF-s, DM-s, TDM-s and sign up for a spot. These events will provide players with high risk, high reward situations. Once the event starts on a predetermined location, you will get to pick event-based weapons and then do your best to survive, kill other players and capture objectives - resulting in getting more fame from millions of viewers closely following your every action.

Being the most famous player on the server will grant you different rewards, but will also place a bounty on your head as other, unknown players, might decide to track you down and kill you to earn the fame points themselves.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg of features coming at day 1. To see other features and systems we plan to implement, it would be best to check out our Youtube channel.

Im going to pick this up - could be good.

Looks good to me

For now playing on official server #996

seems interesting. let me know what you guys think.

The important thing is how authentic does eating, drinking, peeing, and pooping feel?

The game is ok - but bugs galore. Even on the basics. Crafting is obtuse and even recipes that should work - dont. Needs to bake some more I think.

Sometimes we just crave raw cookie dough.

Life is like a box of ch...nevermind

I agree the inventory ui needs work, but recipes work fine. They just don't tell you all the information you need at times.

Not seen any bugs yet though.

Warning, it also does not scale correctly to 3440x1440. Some crafting works and some doesn't unless I'm missing something. I can get some versions of the same recipe to work, but anything that can use wire doesn't seem to work.

I've kept dying before getting to that point

Again the UI needs work, but this is definitely DayZ 3.0 or 4.0. There's so much stuff in this game that we wanted in DayZ, but never got.

I respawn and head into town and see someone has just been through and having a bit of fun with the zombies...

Some very cool views in game

The game is pretty. Ive enjoyed what Ive played - just needs some basic work. Early Access is understood.

There are some good videos out there for the opening 10 minutes or so for basic crafting. Stone knife, 2 wooden spears, and an improvise back pack. I usually craft a stone axe as well. There are also some good maps out there with most of the current locations.

keeping an eye on this one.

Another tip - for min/maxers. Starting age of 40 - gives you the best "overall" mix of skill points, etc...

Regarding the events. If you plan on joining one in progress check the time left AND the score. I joined 2 just as they were ending and was on the losing side. Lost 60 FP.

Sold.

Agree with Ranalin.

This is Dayz 4.0. It is 100% still EA has bugs etc. UI needs a lot of work. However, it has some amazing layers and if you like that kind of game is great. I am sure I will put a lot of time in it.

So how does this compare to ARK or Conan or one of the other billion survival games out there?

There doesn't appear to be any base building, at least yet. There is no PvE though if we got our own server we could have rules against it (though there isn't that much to do if PvP isn't part of the game). There is crafting but the game feels more like a scavenging survival game.

Honestly, for me at least, there's 0 reason to play the game just for the PvE experience. This is truly along the lines of what DayZ did. It just doesn't allow server swapping.

I abhor multiplayer gameplay. I've zero interest in PvP.

I respect both of the above from a distance, yet firmly understand they're just not for me.

But holy crap those micro-stats trip my grognard endorphins in a big way.

Props to the dev. This screenshot alone makes me reconsider everything.

I got my $20 worth. It has some interesting dynamics. Once you hit one of the military sites - you can gear up to the top gear in almost no time. You only need to craft the basics I alluded to earlier at the start to puppet clear. You can time the runs between the mechs and once you get into the main bunker you find all the toys you need. The crates respawn/reload after a short period and if you are going to log out - log out in a bunker to guarantee fresh crates when you log back in. There is, as Ranalin said, very little PvE unless you want to puppet hunt and/or hunt game. If you are on a low player count server the game becomes a scavenging simulator. The game is very pretty and the sound is top notch, the puppets/zombies make some pretty scary noises and when they come running for you - best hunker down in a house and plink'em through windows. Right now they cant get in houses/buildings unless you leave a door open. They react to sound, like gunshots very accurately and will even react to the sound of a bullet hitting something in the distance. I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the game. I'll probably start another prisoner on a higher population server to see how the PvP stacks up in the future. I think the game would probably play best in 2-3 man teams for PvP, but a well geared solo with a scope could wreak havoc from a good position.

I like this one. It has most of the same info but includes town names. I want to get a high res version of the map and move the info over.

SCUM is what I wanted Escape from Tarkov to be.

Well. I had a hard time thinking of any other game coming close to allowing this to happen...NSFW...
