Interesting Kickstarter Catch-All

Can someone please explain Starflight to me? I played some Privateer and Wing Commander and X-Wing and whatnot but that one slipped by me. I guess because 1986 was before I got into PCs and was mostly a NES gamer.

It's an open space adventure and exploration game that gives you hundreds of solar systems and planets to explore. While there is an overarching story, you can go about it in your own way. You meet other races along the way, some who are always enemies, others who can possibly be friends.

You have your own ship and crew, all of which can be updated via experience and upgrades, respectfully.

The writing for all of the alien interactions, and the story itself, is wonderful, with one of the biggest twists I've ever experienced in a game ever, still 32 years later.

It's a seminal game. While Elite gave us an open universe, Starflight made it matter.

Oh, a nice one closing soon in the tabletop RPG zone: The Bloody-handed Name of Bronze.

Rules light, character driven sword & sorcery.

Veloxi has it covered, but I just wanted to add that Starflight is the game that nearly every adventure/RPG space game has been copying since 1986. Mass Effect was heavily influence by it; the Mako in Mass Effect 1 was an obvious if wonky attempt to duplicate the core gameplay from Starflight. Star Control 2 was such a tribute that they had one of the Starflight devs as an additional writer. The video has Randy Pitchford, Brian Fargo, and Chris Taylor talking about how it influenced them.

The originals are available on GOG, in all their early DOS CGA glory. They're a bit rough to play nowadays, and its a bit too easy to die, but the stories still hold up. (I own one of the record-album style original Starflight boxes.)

What are ya naming your planet and star system?

Y'all did not learn from Citizen eh?

I generally feel more confident in Fig than I do Kickstarter revivals. They seem to be more diligent with business plans and funding.

Not that that is any guarantee, but it’s worth a shot to me.

Fork. The fork. Off. Seriously.

That's not even forking funny.

I'm offended

I would say I have learned much more from the nearly 100 successful projects I have backed between Kickstarter and Fig.

I dunno, it gave me a bit of a chuckle.

Witchcraft!

Hmmm, that tattoo system could have some far more useful purposes if first responders and the military got into it. Maybe folks who work with or near radioactive stuff, too.

Here is one combining my two favorite hobbies; beekeeping and board games.

Nighthawks. Text-based vampire rpg inspired by Failbetter's games and Bloodlines.

And Wadjet Eye is involved, so yeah. I'm in.

I was tentatively excited until I saw Wadjet Eye's brand attached, and now I'm in like Flynn

I also jumped on nighthawks. I love fallen London and I am always chasing that Bloodlines high.

DRYP - an app that keeps your plants alive & happy

79% funded with 8 days to go. Neat little plant maintenance tracker and first aid app - pledge tiers are for things like stickers since you can't actually presell apps.

I knew a professor who went a step beyond tracking and hooked up his irrigation system to a machine-learning system that he trained to take care of his pumpkins.

Those were some massive pumpkins.

Excellent. My partner is an electrical engineer and one of the projects we've dreamed up but not started is wiring up the plants with soil and UV sensors and such and have them tweet updates to me. Maybe we'll get to it one day.

Wadjet Eye's Nighthawks has about a week left. At the moment its about 40k short. Hope they make it! There's a demo linked on the main page. Its promising, and I love the art.

Sounds like maybe he was out of his gourd.

Nice...love me some weird stuff I can use as inspiration for things in d&d or coc. Probably grab a pdf version of that.

Nice find, Mixolyde.

Here's my newest backing: D6

From the guys who made Endangered Orphans and Who Goes There?, which have fast become two of the top played games in my group.
