Battlefield 1 Catch-All: It is LIVE!

I've been away from BF1 playing PUBG but I have the season pass and it might be time to come back to see the new stuff.

Is the naval combat any fun?

Er, well, it's limited. Lots of big guns and AA guns on boats that nobody appears to use. The torpedo boats are fun but you end up effectively jousting with each other trying to get a good line of attack before you launch, or you sit miles back from the front line and just fire off torpedoes from miles away.

It can be fun, it can be dead boring. The maps I'm still getting used to

Heligoland is a really interesting map, a mixture of big open areas and narrow corridors at the bases of the cliffs. Had a great time playing it last night.

Zeebrugge feels like it needs more options for shore to sea artillery, but that might just be me. Those weird blimp things are a great deal of fun but still trying work out how to make them effective.

I updated and jumped in last night. Played a little with all the classes except for assault. First impressions are pretty favorable with the weapon rebalance, especially on the LMGs.
I'm an ADS player by reflex/nature so going prone, podding, and hosing people as they run for cover is a blast. Galicia became my "killing field". Gotta love it.

All I've got from TTK 2.0 is that most people are getting really cross with everyone being a medic, and using the Farquhar-Hill all the time (seriously. I think I only got shot by that and the support BAR last night) The hellreigel does appear to be even more effective though for assault. If I could shoot worth a damn with the Iron sighted Scout rifles I'd report back on them too. I've nearly got enough boat kills with the AT rocket for the Machinepistol, only apparently that now recoils like a rattlesnake and isn't worth it any more. Dammit.

I noticed that with the Farquhar too. It might have become a bit OP'd. I usually play as a medic anyway to A: keep myself alive. Also, I judge my performance more by my score than by my kills. I'm not as quick as I used to be. Reflexes, what can you do?

I can't remember which youtuber mentioned it, but when the Cape Helles map released he suggested running to the shore and using an AT on the initial assault. It didn't take too long.

I unlocked the storm version of the Farquhar and didn't like it that much. Slow reload, and my aim is terrible, so I missed most of the time. Is the scoped version better?

They really broke the game this time, with the new DLC...

I’ve had no problems although I’m on PC. I hear the PS4 version is a shambles though?

I'm on the ps4 but also haven't played in a few weeks. Could you elaborate on what has happened?

Constant stuttering from what I hear. DICE are addressing it but are hiding behind Sony’s 2 week patch verification window a little. There is a lot of internet nerd rage going on though so not sure how prevalent the issue is. It’s clearly affecting a lot of people, but I have no idea if it’s a majority. The BF1 subreddit is full of it.

It’s a shame because it’s the last dlc of an otherwise great game and previous dlc. It leaves a bad impression which Dice will correct the issues but the feeling is that this was one rushed.

Yep, that's the issue, it affects all platforms but is more noticeable on consoles (both). For me is almost unplayable

That's too bad. I've spent the day, under the weather, watching JackFrags, Westie, et al Apocalypse gameplay videos. The maps look like fun but I'm not a big fan of the Conquest Assault mode.

I’ve had no issues on PC, and the general chat has been (between all the abuse and childish comments) that neither is anyone else. There are some known existing problems with the PC build (usually getting the jitters after being revived) but nothing new coming through that I, nor anyone else I’ve spoken to about it has encountered.

Not saying it’s not happening on PC but if it is then it’s a definite minority. Sucks if it’s you though.

Anyone else get into the Incursions testing? It's ok, but playing solo is a crapshoot if you get on a team that works together or not.

Picked this up on PS4 in last week's sale. As a PC Battlefield player this is my first real time with a BF on console and does the shooting feel weak to anyone else? I was going through an early mission with a tank and it felt completely lacking in oomph. Shooting as a human felt a tad better, but I didn't feel entirely connected, if that makes sense.

I get that Dice came from PC and all, but I don't recall feeling this way when playing SW Battlefront. Then again, I was shooting laser guns and whatnot there while I'm shooting real guns here. Totally could just be me, in that regard.

I’ve been playing on PS4 and haven’t seen the stutter issue, but that might just be because my aim sucks anyway and my connection is often a bit laggy.

Garion, regarding the shooting on console, it always has felt a bit spongier on PS4 relative to the PC version. I've played both versions of a few games now, and the games are always tuned for pc where aim is a bit tighter, recoil compensation is considerably easier, etc. It's particularly noticeable on vehicles, where the mounted MG's are tuned for people on pc who can easily maintain fire on target. They're basically completely ineffective in my experience on console.

The main guns, however, should work just fine on PS4. If you're driving a main battle tank and your shells aren't killing infantry, then there may be something wrong with your connections or something. Direct hits always kill infantry. I haven't played since the patch, so I may be commenting on the wrong thing, but that's been my experience. Good luck with the peasantry!

LG

Oh, I'm definitely killing people, it just doesn't feel particularly great. I probably simply don't like the way the game handles overall. It's likely the utilitarian feel of it all.

MG's on console appear to be best used without zooming in because it generously applies auto aim when you aren't zoomed in. Or at least I think that's what is happening. When I zoom in while firing you can see the aim cursor jump from following a target to being centered on where I'm aiming while zoomed.

BTW, the patch to solve the stuttering issues is out (I think in all platforms). Hope it works!

So I started this today. It is extremely fun. Is there a gwj platoon? Xbone.

Jumped in on the $9.99 deal and played a couple hours yesterday. Battlefield games are still pretty great from what I could tell. Played a bit of the campaign before jumping over to multiplayer. My nearly 1:1 kd ratio seems to be the same as usual so glad to see my fps skills haven't regressed from my usual mediocre. I do have to say that main menu is horrible. Convoluted and messy the brief time I interacted with it.

It really is a brilliant game. The weapons feel great, have punch and sound awesome. The maps are varied and the overall atmosphere is spot on. I really hope the majority of those playing pick up BF5 as well since I feel Battlefield is my favorite FPS experience and for the most part the maps are much less linear than other games allowing opportunities to flank etc.

This is how I felt when I started playing too. All the conversation is making me want to jump in again.

I put 300 hours into Battlefield One , which is a hell of a lot for me for an oneline shooter these days. It’s by far the most accessible battlefield game I’ve played (with the possible exception of bad company 2) and the Operations mode is fantastic.

I’ve missed the 2 closed betas for Battlefield V (despite getting invites) but I am looking forward to it.

I take it back, I may be out already. I don't understand how you're supposed to get better at the MP. My lives pretty much consist of running toward a capture/defense point, maybe trying to flank around, and I get shot by a sniper, or a battleship, or a plane, or god knows what that I didn't know was there. I almost never even see an enemy close enough that I could actually shoot them. If I try and go man an emplaced gun, I get shot almost instantly by a sniper. I tried taking a scout, thinking I could counter-snipe, except apparently scouts don't get a gun with a scope initially, so I just have a rifle?

I mean, none of this is surprising to me, I've played BF games before. I know it's supposed to be "play more, you'll get better," except I don't even see a path forward that would equal getting better. Aim doesn't do much good if you're getting shot by snipers. Avoiding getting shot by snipers doesn't work when that means you just hide with your head down and don't go do anything. I did try a support class, and the mortar was neat, except half the time, they didn't even explode as far as I could tell, and the other half I got killed while firing it. I don't even know how I'm supposed to level up if I can't shoot anything or capture anything when I'm on defense.
