Thread for race issues in media.
Birth Of a Nation
This movie isn't do so good. I think this is because black people are tired of slave type movies, white people don't want the white guilt, and everybody else is turned off by the rape case. I mean this in general. This is just a perfect storm for the downfall of the movie.
Surviving Compton
Straight out of compton left out the ladies. This lifetime show means to correct that. I believe all of the production was done by women.
Mulan live.
All Chinese cast. Maybe the dumb choices of Gods of Egypt are over.
Hiring a black woman to voice a dog in the upcoming Lady And The Tramp remake is somehow "race-bending".
Black people can only voice black Labs, duh.
And hey, what do you know, the Siamese cats in the original were voiced by a white lady, not someone from Siam (Thailand).

White people, the original race benders.
Ya don't say....
Oh hey, a Klingon!
The voice actor for Lady, Barbara Luddy, died in 1979. Tramp was played by Larry Roberts who died in 1992. It's a high profile Disney movie, they are going to want high profile voices. There was no reason the voices could have stayed the same.

Yeah and that is one reason it was stupid but that doesn't make it racist. This lady once went on rant about the animated aquaman because they changed his hair from the comic books. HIS HAIR, for a animated character.
All racism is stupid, not all stupidity is racism. But when her complaint is that there is too much change going on with the animated characters and the change occurring is the voice actor changing race, that's stupid racism.
edit: Changed from the impersonal "you", to pronouns referring to the lady in the video.
Grace Randolph has always been an at best thinly veiled bigot. Her videos are laden with a stream of racist gaslighting and antifeminist mini-rants.
Her statement here is bigoted. Full stop. Whether she intended it to be or not doesn't change its end effect. And there's too many examples of this in her videos, too clear a path from the way her YouTube channel originally started to where it is now, to believe anything other than that she knows exactly what she's doing.
She's terrible.
And yet if you watch any YouTube film review channels, almost inescapable, because YouTube will seemingly populate her videos into your feed even after you've told it you aren't interested in her channel a hundred times. Or at least it does for me. I have to do the "I'm not interested in this video" and then answer the why box with "I'm not interested in this channel" almost weekly with her sh*t.
Did you watch her original video? I think what she said got blown out of proportion. Given that she gave multiple examples some of which were white people voicing dogs as racebending I don't think she was being racist.
Just. Stop.
Rat Boy before wrote:Couldn't they have just fired her, killed off the character, and have the rest of the characters reappear in a limited season where they slowly realize how much happier they are now that she's dead?
They should do a callback to the last season of the original series and Dan realizes that she died a year ago and the reboot was just a delusional break from reality.
It was more of a class thing, crapping on a famous person for being "reduced" to working at Trader Joes.
I'm assuming it was based on racism unless they did this sort of thing to minor white actors also.
Even when I was a wee lad who just left the TV running after Batman: The Animated Series had ended, the line from the theme "I want Charles in Charge of me" struck me as a bit off. Now, I certainly don't want it at all.
What's wrong with working at Trader Joe's? Is it one of those objectionable companies with restrictive practices?

No, just class shaming, with a side of "own the libs" because it's a "liberal" grocery store.

As I understand it, it's actually pretty great. Well above minimum wage, medical and dental cover.

"You won't believe where the celebrities from your childhood are now" is an evergreen gossip topic that predates the internet. It trades on the schadenfreude of seeing the rich brought low.
The fact that it's Trader Joe's is neither here nor there, it's a grocery store, and can you believe that idiot squandered all his wealth so he has to work like a regular peasant at a grocery store? I wouldn't have don't that in his shoes, because I would have been smarter. It's probably because, he's, you know, urban, and you know what those people are like.

She was born in Japan but lived most of her life in the US. The article says she is representing Japan though.
Just seen all the drama over the Serena Naomi match. To bad Naomi's win was soured by the drama. I think Serena was correct though in stating it wouldn't have happen in a mens match.
Yeah did John McEnroe ever get penalized for his anger management issues? If anything I feel like his on court antics only earned him endearment.
Edit: looked it up and he was fined many times and got himself a point penalty, but never a full game penalty. Given how much more often he expressed anger on the court however, one is inclined to think he got off pretty lightly.
