Done, should appear on the team page soonish.

Well I got my win... but wasn't fast enough to beat merphle to the punch!

Lost what was a really promising run. Ran into trouble trying to take down the royal jelly, so gave up and worked on depths instead. Teleportitis, Random rage, and paralysis did me in. Well, really overconfidence did me in (again) but the other stuff didn't help. Obviously in retrospect I should have enchanted the axe, but was thinking I'd get an executioner's axe at some point so was hoarding them.

clumber

RIP. For what it's worth, unless you're playing a god who gives gifts (Oka or Trog), Executioner's Axes are fairly uncommon in a 3-rune game.

I got pretty lucky in my game. I started off with axes, but found the +8 trident of the Octopus King {venom, rElec rPois MR+} in Lair:2; since polearms cross-train with axes (and the axe I was using at the time was bland), I switched over to that. I eventually switched over to an antimagic Broad Axe that Trog gave me, but I rode the trident-train for quite a while -- through all three runes, I think. I also used a fustibalus I found, branded it freezing, and was hurling sling bullets all the way through the orb run -- that's super powerful with a decent Slings skill.

I guess I fell in to considering them somewhat common because I follow Oka or Trog 90% of the time.

Anyone ever win the game with Qazlal? Any tips for post-Lair?

I won once with Qaz - Qaz win, I can't remember if that was with the double damage bug so it might have an asteristk. Avoid hell at all costs, don't even think about going there. Invocations 20, Immolation scroll & Area of destruction does wonders clearing vault 5. Generally, lots of stair dancing since you are always going to be at maximum noise. Lastly, it completely rules out any kind of extended win.

Ultraviolent4 won (spoiler, sorry) a Spriggan Conjurer of Qazlal a month ago. Some good stuff in there.

I also have a win as a TrMo^Qaz, but Clumber’s tips are good. I also would recommend against Abyss, though I did manage to get the Abyssal rune in my win.

Someone raised the Cloud signal! Qaz was my favourite God back when I was playing a few versions ago. This might sound crazy, but I had my biggest successes running a FoFi of Qaz. The beginning was usually pretty rough, but if I could hit Lair with a decent shield, 2h axe, and 4-5 pips of piety I was generally looking at a 3-rune win. I think my best was 7 runes including crypt and abyss.. I would second the caution for hell though, I poked my head down there with a couple of promising characters and got swarmed so fast I couldn't react - I learned to get very good at living without teleport but the elemental nature of the hell branches really hurt my ability to kill everything before being overwhelmed.

I have only ever tried a 3 rune win with Qaz but have gotten 5 different runes. The slimy rune is pretty easy with Qaz as long as you have max peity when you first see the royal slime.

Edit: Joined team mixolyde

Ended up losing that Qazlal Minotaur in the Lair due to testing out the cloud abilities and getting surrounded. Learned, but did not live. Started another MiFi, but haven't picked a God, yet. The Temple entrance was blocked by a plant, so I may have to pick Chei or Ash, neither one of which I am particularly fond of.

Why would you have to pick one of them? Why not just kill the plant?

It's one of those dangerous ones that automatically blocks off an area as dangerous. I guess I could brave it and try to take it out or run to the temple entrance.

Oh, an Oklob Plant. Definitely a few options available to take them out -- try a wand of flame, from distance? Fedhas makes all plants friendly, Oklobs included. Oklobs are dangerous because they spit acid, so having rCorr will help (though it's only a 50% reduction, not immunity, so caution would still be advised).

Turns out it was just a sapling, walked calmly past it with no issue. Trying Makhleb this time.

Added Zaque, I hope it was before the team lockdown.

Just went though a labyrinth, the Minotaur didn't feel any worse than normal, and didn't drop any armor (unfortunately).

Looks like I missed the cutoff time. Sorry, Zaque!

It's ok, I don't have a ton of time this round anyway. I'll still play a bit though.

Thanks, scroll of acquirement, for giving me an artefact trident after training only short blades all game.

Clan lockdown isn’t until this Friday. Make sure spelling AND capitalization are correct on both clan leader and member side.

Oh, I have Zaque in my list, and it says Zaque on his player page, so I think I'm ok.

I believe both teams already have 6 members.

Ah, that's it. So Zaque & qaraq could form their own team, or we could reshuffle & redistribute everyone among three teams before Friday.

I've had a Vampire Enchanter to this point a hundred times, and I've never been able to close it. Enchanter -> Kiku necro just doesn't have firepower and remains fragile come time to hit the rune branches. If anyone has any thoughts, I'm open to suggetsions. Right now I'm leaning on Ice Beats and Simulacra.

Wish I could help, but that's about the furthest I've ever reached with a SpEn/VpEn myself. Find myself having the same problem too: firepower doesn't scale well enough and stealth stops being as reliable.

The best luck I had was a few weeks ago when I went VpEn and ended up with lots of good Earth spells and Ash. I had the game in hand I died a silly and unexpected death in Zot 5. Lesson learned about using Silence against Liches, I suppose.

Here's what I usually turn to for help: Ultraviolent4's SpEn playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

also this very short guide: http://crawl.develz.org/info/index.p...

Evocations is really good, especially now that wand charges combine. Spriggans get +3 to Evo; not sure about Vampires. Also, Dith permits the use of fire now, so summons that can cause fires are ok (Guardian Golem is really fun when combined with a pair of Mana Vipers, and doesn’t take a lot of training).

EDIT: I feel I ought to mention a disclaimer that I've never actually gotten a sneaky-stabber win. I came close with a SpEn a few years back (died in Zot:5), and I'm running a SpEn^Dith now who's trying to figure out how to transition, with 2 runes obtained and progressing through Depths.
