NFL 2018 Offseason Thread

Dammit, the NFL gave Ray Lewis something new to jibber jabber about. Way to go.

Oh hai it's Kelvin Benjamin (formerly of the Panthers, now of the Bills) giving his opinion regarding his former team and his old QB: "I should’ve never went to Carolina. Truly, I just think Carolina was bad for me. It was a bad fit from the get-go." etc. etc.

Panther Fan noted that Carolina was 21-3 in the regular season (and went to a Super Bowl) without Benjamin and 18-21-1 when he played. Today Benjamin's coach (also formerly of Carolina) slagged him in public, more or less.

And to paraphrase Twitter, the only thing that was a bad fit was Benjamin's jersey.

In 2016, the Browns traded down from #2 to #15, passing on their opportunity to draft Carson Wentz, and selected Corey Coleman with that #15 pick.

Today, the Browns traded Coleman to the Bills for an undisclosed (but presumed late-round) draft pick.

Coleman has flashed his ability but never seemed to be able to put it all together. Broken hands don't help receivers.

Too bad he was about to have an actual NFL QB throwing passes to him, but is now with the Bills, so ...

Yeah, but would Wentz be Philly Wentz or would he be some sad, broken version of Cleveland Wentz had he been drafted there? You have to think it isn't just the personnel choice, but the organizational circumstances that contribute to their failure.

Jeez, it's been confirmed that Coleman was traded for a 2020 7th round pick.

Guess the new regime didn't care for him.

That's not trading. That's just flushing the guy.

Probably more than we will get for Breshawful Perriman.

I’ve seen him play. 7th rounder seems generous.

You say that, but this guy made a video of him catching a bunch of passes over "Return of the Mack", so...

Spoiler:

Well, at least over the first 2 minutes of "Return of the Mack". Guess he ran out?

All anyone will ever remember of him is dropping the last pass of the last game of last season that sealed the 0-16 record.

He looked good last preseason. Lol

Yes, I'm still vaguely reading this thread, even though I haven't been to PFT in months. Did finally go over to FO to see their new website design, and it's nice to see they've stopped looking like a blog from 2006. Anyways . . .

Why Your Team Sucks, Bucs Edition.

Not shockingly, it's largely focused on the steaming pile of rapist garbage currently QBing the team. And, no, not Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The Bucs edition of WYTS was brutal.

I did not know that Fitzpatrick went to Tulane! I thought it was some second-tier state U somewhere. Huh.

Yeah, most of them are "HA HA, BUFFALO SUCKS" but this one was genuinely vitriolic, and with good reason.

It's a real shame that a franchise with a great dude like Gerald McCoy instead winds up with an asshat like Winston as the proverbial Face of the Franchise. Ugh.

I enjoyed the his take on the Texans' owner. Wonder what he has in store for Carolina.

So, part of trading Corey Coleman was the fact that the team was high on rookie Anthony Callaway and wanted to clear his path into the starting lineup.

The morning of that trade, Callaway was cited for marijuana possession and driving on a suspended license during a traffic stop.

It's believed that the Browns were unaware of the incident until after the trade.

You can't make these things up.

I wonder what Jarvis Landry has to say about it...

NSFW language.

That's so Cleveland

I'm starting to regret not scrounging up an HBO code this year.

Landry isn't quite up to Rex Ryan's "goddamn snack" speech, but it's definitely top 10 stuff.

Apparently that wasn't even the best part of the episode.

“When it’s your team, you can do whatever the hell you want,” Jackson said.

Gonna watch it tonight.

Calling it now, Landry lays no more than four games this year.

Yep, this part was good.

Both Jarvis Landry and Todd Haley, in their respective scenes, had faces of men that were looking around the room and thinking, "the hell kind of Mickey Mouse shit did I walk into?"

Haley trying to end the discussion on a positive note that he could barely muster up was amusing. You may be an asshole Todd, but you're a professional, and you're not wrong about what you're seeing.

Also, my wife watched the episode with me, and picked up on the fact that Gregg Williams is a piece of shit in about 2 seconds.

Saw this on the KC Star, and it turned out more fun that I thought it would be.

Are the Dolphins the most boring team in the NFL right now?

It feels like they're going nowhere, failing to build for the future while also failing to build for the current year. There's basically nothing exciting about them at all. Maybe Mike Gesicki will light up scoreboards but show me a quality team built around their TE other than NE who also has a QB best known for going to college at Michigan.

The only part of your question that I don't understand is the inclusion of the last two words.

Gotta admit, I've watched this like seventeen times. Chiefs first preseason game is tonight! Woot!

Just when I think Deadspin's WYTS is going to phone it in, we get this from today's Raiders entry:

Ten years, $100 million. For that guy. I’m still aghast. Here is a man whose greatest accomplishment was winning a title using Tony Dungy’s players and Bill Callahan’s play sheet. That was 16 years ago. He went 45-51 after that title and spent his remaining years in Tampa fondling quarterbacks and then tossing them aside like an old lady picking out cantaloupes at the supermarket. The game passed this man by a f--king decade ago. Hiring Jon Gruden now is like thawing out a caveman and making him a calculus teacher.

That's glorious.

Tampa Bay's 2nd round running back Ronald Jones has been getting noticed for being unable to pass block.

He's been making up for it by being unable to catch passes.

That's what Jacksonville Jaguars should look like.

Now take the black jerseys and burn them.

To repeat something I threw into a comment on that article, I genuinely think drafting JaMarcus Russell #1 overall was a better move than signing Jon Gruden to a 10-year contract.
