WoW: Battle for Azeroth (8.3)

Not weird!

What is weird is, my newest allied race is lvling up, got to 60... and went to Outlands instead of Northrend which I did last time.
Uh, Outlands seems like a much better place to lvl than Northrend (just skip Hellfire).
Not sure why. Maybe Northrend was just designed more with flying in mind, making everything bigger and farther apart. Lots of quests in Zangarmarsh, and got 5 lvls from it + a few dungeons while being there.
Sure, those quests tend to be tedious (Blizzard sure loved their "Collect 10 X of bad droprate" quests back then).

Nagrand next. Time to murder all the animals.

I think I'm hopping back into this for a while. Still on the fence about a boost - I know it's better not to, but I'm afraid of the "getting left behind" in the expansion thing. Anyone want to tip me either way? Also - do we still have the Blackhand guild going?

The guild on Blackhand is still there and active. As for boosting, what’s your current level? You get a 110 boost with the purchase of BfA, and that would obviously get you to the new content quickly. Leveling from 100 to 110 would take about 10-20 hours.

*sigh* So I broke down and bought BfA and resubbed. I unlocked the Horde races, but I'll need to go through all of the argus content or the Alliance ones.

Why, oh, why did I do this to myself?

Hahaha. Don't worry. The fever will probably last 2-3 months. At which point you can either just manage the side effects or move on.

If for some reason you are 110 and haven't done the Darkshore pre-patch quests they, and the mount rewards, will be removed in 1 week and no longer be available to get.

The horde one is super cool but WAAAAAYYY too large!
I also noticed that I did something in the past 1-2 months and got a purple manta mount *shrugs*

Probably on Argus from the Eggs you open after 5 days that drop sometimes from one of the 4 named dog mobs. 4 mounts and 2 pets possible in the egg.

Egg Loot

I've decided I don't want to play my lock anymore (who hit 110 fairly recently) and recall my DH being a lot of fun. The issue is that he's horde and my current guild is Alliance. You apparently can't create more than 1 DH per server which means I would have to delete my horde DH to create another one. I'm still back and forth about whether I want to do that but it stinks that I'm limited on the one character that really clicked.

I'd also rather not pay a fee to move him to alliance so that is out of the question. The lock just kills really slow. It may be that I haven't gotten the hang of him but it's just not clicking like I had hoped.

So, just for reference, a couple months ago I boosted a new character to 110 to do this. I also have not played the game at all for a couple years. It took me only 2 or 3 weeks to get the rep to get the unlocks. It is helpful for the area to have more people so you can finish the world quests (that you'll be doing every day) quicker! Also, at some point you get a skill that allows you to have the ship do an aoe every 8 mins. Forget that. Switch it out for the gold mech that has an 8 min cool down. You can actually solo the world bosses with it!

Enjoy!

I see a few options:
1. Do you have enough gold to purchase Blizzard credits to do the server transfer?
2. Delete and re-roll an Alliance DH. If you have heirloom gear it will be relatively quick. They don't have the lucrative invasions either at all or as often any more but class hall quests and dungeons will help
3. Destruction Warlock is incredibly bursty and a quick killer when I tested it on the beta server. I would not be surprised whether a few talent changes would renew your love for warlocks.

If your server has a connected realm, you can create a DH on the linked server (but you do need a level 70 character there to create one). For example, I wanted a female DH on Blackhand, because I had a cool idea for a crazy look for the DH. But I already had a male Demon Hunter Ubiytsa on Blackhand. So I created the Death Knight Badbarbie on Galakrond and leveled her to 70, then created the Demon Hunter Badfelmama on Galakrond and boosted her. (Check out the links, seriously, I'm pretty proud of those crazy transmogs!)

This works because some time back they removed the level 55 restriction on creating Death Knights.

You can find a list of connected realms here.

One thing to be careful of is to get the look of your Demon Hunter right the first time. To prevent some sort of abuse, Blizzard put a throttle in place for creating Demon Hunters. So you can't create one, get in game and decide you want to tweak the look, then delete it and create a new one. That 24 hour throttle bit me in the ass. Fortunately, as I found out later, they have changed the Barber Shop so that you can change everything about a Demon Hunter's appearance except sex (feel free to roleplay any gender you like).

The hippogriff is actually pretty nice, because its ground running animation isn't wonky like many flying creatures. The bat is ginormous and its ground gait is a bit ungainly. They both look great though. I haven't seen the bat on a Tauren yet, it must be truly massive. Not likely to fit through many doors!

I tried the bat with my Highmountain Tauren. Good God, between my moose antlers and massive bat beast, the entire screen was obscured in 3rd person view.

Here's my Tauren on a bat next to a Tauren on an Expedition Yak.

And here is the new Pre-patch class Demon Mage Hunter.

I enjoyed my time in the beta... but the new Sylvannas video did me in. I'll be bowing out until they fix this, IMO, horrible writing hole they've dug themselves into or the next expansion.

Ok, it only took like 90 minutes to get the new mount once I figured out where to get the starter quest!

As someone that is not super up on the years of lore, from these quests AND the Old Soldier vid it seems to me that

Spoiler:

They are setting up for that soldier guy to help turn on Sylvanas and take over as leader of the Horde and we know he is tired of warring so he will help establish peace.

One thing I noticed during the prepatch quest line... Sylvanas' horse had felfire flames around its hooves. It was not like that before. Perhaps a clue?

I think narrative so far is foreshadowing the end of Sylvanas. Much like Garrosh, she has gone too far.

I keep being surprised by the people who are surprised by this "turn" in sylvanass's character. It seems to me less like a turn and more like the logical progression of her character since Mysts of Pandaria.

The bit that surprises me is that they aren't cashing in on the Villain's Journey they've been telling about Jaina the past 2 expacs.

Hell, the Sylvanas stuff is at least since Cata.

I've been busy with work and was on vacation last week. I've done all the Argus stuff for my Alliance and unlocked both races but haven't started on anything else? Do I have time to get all the pre-release stuff done still?

the first two bits you could definitely get done in a short evening session.

Is there a third part coming out today or are we done til release next week?

Battle of Lordaeron scenario should be live now. Do it this week! It and the two others events will disappear next Monday night when BfA drops.

If you want the mounts (which pop after the second of three events), you only have to do the pre-patch events on one faction. The other faction's mount will show up if you're on a toon of that other faction.

The first two events took maybe an hour total, maybe a little bit more. Follow the bread crumbs, watch the cut scenes, etc.

In the past her wicked deeds were as the leader of the Forsaken. Now that she is warchief it has a broader impact. Most of the netrage seems to be from horde players who don't like being cast as the villains.

But... the horde as always been cast as a villains. Like since Warcraft 2. Wasn't the intentional appeal of the horde in vanilla getting a chance to play the savage bad dudes against the stuck up goody two-shoes?

Somebody skipped Warcraft 3. And this dude named Thrall who used to lead the Horde.

Warcraft 3 actually did a really good job of presenting a complex web of shifting alliances, because it was good for gameplay and mission design to let any army fight itself and/or ally with any other army.

Then we jump to World of Warcraft with the set-in-stone limitation of exactly two factions that can never change. Over a decade later and we're still feeling the whiplash of that change in the story.

I think a good amount of backlash is not due to Horde being Evil, but having Sylvanas go off the deep end and potentially creating Garosh 2.0 scenario rehashing old story points. Basically not very creative story telling. Also Horde having another Warchief and being shown as the aggressor while the Ally just react because they are not capable of bad things.

I get that the "Horde" was bad, but now after they have banded together with the Alliance to defeat countless foes that threaten Azeroth, they really are not the "bad" guys anymore. Could have been interesting to have Jaina or Genn do some bad things to show both sides can be bad.

Where does all this start to get the mounts?
