Red Dead Redemption 2 Catch-All

Watched the trailer on my phone but one of those guys looks an awful lot like Pete Postlethwaite.

IGN is posting a big feature on the game tomorrow; apparently one of their people went to Scotland and was hands-on with it. Honestly, this could be a lot more interesting than today's trailer.

EDIT: That feature drops at 10am ET tomorrow. Also, there's a Rockstar press release out that provides a few more details:

"After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him."

I feel like I've been waiting for this game forever, it's literally the only thing that is a day one purchase for me. The only other game I'm remotely this stoked for is Cyberpunk, which I'm hoping actually has something at E3.

My only fear is that after all the wait this might fail to live up to my expectations. I jokingly said this after God of War hit and was overwhelmingly loved, I was like watch the new Red Dead just be simply good. I mean it is the sequel to arguably my favorite game of all time.

Here's hoping it's amazing.

IGN's first look.

I honestly thing Red Dead Redemption is a bit overrated which might be because I played it several years after it released, but some of the aspects talked about in RDR2 sound absolutely fascinating. Killing a deer with a bow results in a more valuable kill and it decays and becomes less valuable over time? All horse breeds react differently? You can take care of your horse to have a better bond with it, and it'll react better in stressful situations? Damn.

I don't think Red Dead Redemption was well written. It certainly wasn't badly written. It was just written at generic movie western quality. I highly doubt RDR2 will be any different in terms of story. If all the open world stuff is going to be ridiculously interesting, I won't care about the story.

Apparently, no one at Rockstar has a clue of how deer hunting works.

With the string pulled tight, he whistles to draw the animal’s attention and fires

The most important thing when hunting deer, especially when using a bow as described in the article (because you have to get closer to the deer), is to remain as silent as possible. The deer will flee at the first, tiny sign of danger, whether it be sound or smell.

I say this as a person who's never hunted a day in his life. I just have general knowledge of how wild animals behave, especially ones that are commonly hunted.

Ha! I missed that part. Yeah, that'll be annoying. The Hunter kind of spoiled me on deer hunting (not that I've actually hunted for real). It always felt relatively realistic.

Am Texan, have hunted*, deer are skittish.

*Gave it up sometime during middle school, don't @ me.

I feel like huge open world games have lost some of their charm due to their abundant availability. There was a time when they were quite rare, and the only ones worth playing were made by Rockstar. (Saints Row being a rare exception.)

GTA V was the first in the series that I’ve never finished. And at this point I doubt I ever will. On paper it did everything right. It checked all the boxes. And was bigger and better in every way. But for me, that formula was a bit played out.

Mafia III was my most recent open world infatuation, but I fell off of that wagon fairly quickly. There’s really nothing wrong with it. Once again, it checks all the appropriate boxes, but I’ve seen this before. I’ll probably come back to it at some point.

That said, I’m still going to buy Red Dead Next on day one. I might even take a day off from work to be able to enjoy it properly.

I've scheduled and re-scheduled time off to immerse myself in this game!

If you're for sure getting RDR2, as am I, the deadline to get all the free preorder bonuses is July 31.

I preordered it earlier today. I went in prepared to buy the deluxe version, but after seeing what they were offering I went with the normal $60 one.

Better than nothing

Is there any reason they wouldn’t do a PC version again?

Do we know why they never released the previous one on PC?

They've certainly made a habit over the years of never announcing a PC version of their biggest games before the console versions have released. You would think the PC release of GTAV would mean the same for RDR2 is likely, but I would have said the same thing about GTAIV and RDR1.

I don't think there was ever an official statement, but I think it was partly because it was pretty poor code, so hard to port - much like the PC Version of GTA 4, although they did eventually do that one.

I have almost zero doubt there won't be a PC version of RDR2 at some point, GTA5 is *still* in the top sellers on Steam for PC. 90 million copies overall across platforms, and 15million copies in 2017 alone (couldn't find figures for 2018 so far). While there are no figures for individual platforms, given the closer hardware between this gen consoles and PC, I can't see why they wouldn't.

So... you're saying there’s a chance!

Kidding aside, that’s great reasoning on your side that I would agree would be a no brainer to make a PC version.

This is the reason I've heard, and I agree with the logic as well.

Yeah. Not likely that R* would leave that much money on the table.

Awwww

I thought you meant my Avatar!!!!

Nothing wrong with any of the doge avatars on here, just not what I was talking about.

I guess no one has mentioned that the first gameplay trailer drops in 27 minutes. Well, you're welcome.
