[Discussion] Hope to Remember The Trump Administration Thread as being 'transparent and honest'

Let's follow and discuss what our newest presidential administration gets up to, the good, the bad, the lawsuits, and the many many indictments.

NYT: Cohen taped Trump on payment to ex-Playboy model

Giuliani claims the recording has Trump saying to use a check so the transaction is documented, which seems like a very odd thing for him to say explicitly.

*sigh* It doesn't matter.... It should, but I don't think this changes anything.

But he claimed in that interview on the airplane that he didn't know what the payment was about?

I bet he misspoke again.

No he said he didn't not know.

You know I can help but think I am not the only one who has misread the title of this thread as:
"The Donald Trump Admission Thread 2"

Deduct as a business expense on his taxes? Charitable donation? Medical bill for therapeutic massage?

Illegal campaign donation.

EPA staff worried about toxic chemical exposure — for Pruitt: Aides later sought to block an assessment that found the levels of formaldehyde that many Americans breathe in daily are linked to cancer.

Then-EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt's staff sought to protect him from exposure to toxic formaldehyde from an office desk last year, emails show — just months before his top political aides blocked the release of a report on health dangers from the same chemical.

In the spring of 2017, as Pruitt was finishing the more than $9,500 redecoration of his office, a top career official in the administrator's office noticed a California warning that one of the ornate desks their boss wanted contained formaldehyde, which the state classifies as a carcinogen. It's unclear whether Pruitt ultimately ordered that desk as part of the renovation — which included artwork from the Smithsonian, framed photographs of Pruitt and President Donald Trump and a standing "captain's" desk — but the documents show that his staff took steps to protect Pruitt from exposure to the chemical.

This has got to be a f*cking farce!
I know Moliere, Oscar Wilde or Ken Ludwing is hiding around here somewhere...

So Trump's own team allowed this to become non-privileged information. That's delicious.

Despite the President's comment Saturday, he has waived privilege on the recording, said two sources briefed on legal discussions surrounding the materials seized in April. The recording had been deemed privileged by a former federal judge, known as a special master, one of the sources said, adding that Trump's lawyers asked the special master to withdraw the privilege. This gives the government access to the recording as part of the US attorney for the Southern District of New York investigation into Cohen.

My favorite President? FDR?

FDR's 1944 State of the Union wrote:

In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:

The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the Nation;

The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

The right of every family to a decent home;

The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;

The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.

America's own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for our citizens. For unless there is security here at home there cannot be lasting peace in the world.

One of the great American industrialists of our day—a man who has rendered yeoman service to his country in this crisis-recently emphasized the grave dangers of "rightist reaction" in this Nation. All clear-thinking businessmen share his concern. Indeed, if such reaction should develop—if history were to repeat itself and we were to return to the so-called "normalcy" of the 1920's—then it is certain that even though we shall have conquered our enemies on the battlefields abroad, we shall have yielded to the spirit of Fascism here at home.

No, Trump means Teddy.

How dare he invoke Millard Fillmore.

He meant to say, not your favorite President.

What a prescient speech. Love that man.

This man is so disconnected from reality and cannot fulfill the duties of his office. He needs to be removed from office.

Trump tweets that Russia [meddling] is a hoax

So President Obama knew about Russia before the Election. Why didn't he do something about it? Why didn't he tell our campaign? Because it is all a big hoax, that's why, and he thought Crooked Hillary was going to win!!!

And this one from this morning.... seriously.... WTF.

Trump threatens Iran in all caps. That means he REALLY means it.

To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 23, 2018
The tirade -- apparently in response to earlier remarks by Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, who warned the US that war with Tehran would be the "mother of all wars" -- signaled an immediate escalation of tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Rohani said-

Americans "must understand that war with Iran is the mother of all wars and peace with Iran is the mother of all peace," Rouhani said while addressing diplomats Sunday in Tehran, according to Iran's state-run news agency IRNA.
The Iranian leader also had a message for US President Trump: "do not play with the lion's tail, because you will regret it eternally."

Very Stable Genius.

He's pinballing through the greatest hits this morning. He's back on the whole "Amazon is exploiting the postal service" thing. He says they use the post office as their delivery boy, and I'm like "uh, isn't the whole purpose of the Post Office to...be a delivery boy?"

That's a weirdest one to me. It's not like Amazon isn't paying postage like everyone else. I think he just doesn't get the core concept of the post office. Or one of his "privatize everything" advisers is telling him about it poorly.

1. He's an idiot.
2. Bezos is an actual successful businessman. He's jealous.

He only operates on a transactional approach. If one side is winning (like getting a better rate on sending packages), then the other side lost (by allowing them to have a better rate). He can't fathom a reason why the post office would give anyone a lower rate unless they were bullied into it (because he frequently bullied people into accepting a lower rate for work done). He also intensely dislikes Amazon and Bezos because the Washington Post is critical of him.

Ergo, awful Amazon bullied the poor Post Office into giving Amazon a terrible rate that is killing the Post Office. There is no other reason this deal could have come into existence.

I think it also has to do with blame. He - and his base - always must have someone to blame. So even if the Amazon deal is good for the government (ie makes more money then it costs) he blames Amazon so his base can feel their lot in life is someone else's fault.

Keep in mind that the real reason their lot in life isn't great is because of the wealthy like trump so it is important to keep them looking at other stuff all the time otherwise they might notice ... like the French revolution.

And I thought he was going to be pretty quiet this week since he'd be preoccupied watching Shark Week.

No, I'm pretty sure the White House only gets the Gorilla Channel, not the Shark Channel.

Magilla Gorilla?

No kidding, he's got all the greatest hits: bomb Iran, bomb the NFL, it's KILLARY'S fault (SERVERS!).

If only they'd eaten their damned cake, no one would have been the wiser.
