GWJ bugs, feature requests, and updates

I've tried 3 other podcast players (Overcast isn't showing up in the play store) and I'm still having the same problem with Heroes of the Realm #16 (and #15, and #14). No problems with CC #609, or Magic Tavern, or any other podcasts I listen to.

Some of the players are able to skip further ahead (maybe 3/5 or 3/4), or don't have the problem *every* time it's skipped but certainly still a lot of the time.
None of the four players had issues skipping within the first half of the podcast.

And then I tried one more player, Castbox, and it's fine. No problems skipping, works a treat.

It definitely sounds like a file production/compatibility issue, and for some reason Castbox is able to interpret the HotR files correctly where four other players can't.

Weird! I recommend posting in the latest HotR episode thread, you'll probably get a faster reply.

I can't reply to the ESO thread in the MMO forum, it just says an error has occurred.

edit: it's because I included an emoji. I got rid of it and it was fine. Hopefully a more helpful error message can be generated.

Hey, is this where we register bugs? I hope so, because your site's site search thingy isn't working! I get:

400. That’s an error.

Your client has issued a malformed or illegal request. That’s all we know.

EVERY TIME. I'd have searched for it, but YOU KNOW.

Also, suggestion/request. The search popout thing is HORRIBLE on mobile. Seriously, it's terrible. I can't search the site on mobile at all with that damned thing. Please make it persistent outside the menu so it can be used on either desktop or mobile, please.

And I'm not sorry if these were suggested before BECAUSE I COULDN'T SEARCH FOR THEM.

Love you guys!

FWIW, Search works for me and I don't get an error.

Veloxi it might help if you posted your browser version and OS, and an example of a search term that results in the error.

Browser: Chrome, most recently updated version
OS: Windows 7 64 Bit
Latest Term: Division

Just tried again just now, same 400 error.

Trying with Firefox.

Works on Firefox.

Well okay then.

Hmmm. That’s a weird one. HotR is produced in Audacity and exported as an
MP3 with standard settings. There’s no fancy indexing or anything so I’m not sure why that’d be happening.

Are you using the LAME plugin for Audacity? If so, then pretty much by definition the files will be compliant. Any problem playing back a LAME-created file is almost by definition a bug in the player.

Yep.

Hey, the search box works on Chrome again! Yay, thanks for that.

It's still crap on mobile though, FYI. Pleeeeease make your menus more mobile friendly.

So I was talking on Slack and telling someone about the time Felicia Day visited the forum and the members melted down embarrassingly.

In a metaphor for the thread that seems a bit on the nose, it seems to be trying to serve me malware according to Avast.

I have a feeling that was caused by a broken image link to a Sailor Moon image, of all things.

Try it now?

Seems good. :thumb-up:

I haven’t been able to post from iOS in about a week. Tried Safari and Chrome errors right after you submit a post

Test

Edit: Just worked for me. Are you iOS 11 or 12?

Has there ever been a clear explanation on how the search works? It seems to just randomly skip threads and this is an ongoing problem for a while now. For example today I was looking for the tower defense thread.

Searching for "tower defense" in the site search does not return this thread. It returns plenty of other results. If I go to google and search "tower defense" site:gamerswithjobs.com it is the first result.

Is this the thread to mention that the password reset email doesn't seem to be sent out (at least nowhere near the time it's requested)?

I ended up going to the trouble of logging into LastPass just to grab the old password because I got tired of waiting for the email.

EDIT: Anyone? Bueller? I checked my spam folder, made sure that my email on record with GWJ is the correct one, etc. Someone should look into why the password recovery emails aren't being sent out (if it wasn't just a one-off).

Worked just fine for me. Took all of about 5 seconds to get it. This was via Gmail.

Is your email from Hotmail or any Microsoft services ? If yes, then Microsoft is blocking all emails from gamerswithjobs.com, and currently this issue isn't resolve.

Change your email address is one way to do it.

Minor quibble, but my recent content button shows red when there aren't actually any new posts. It has been like this for a couple weeks. Anybody else running into this?

Getting that 400 error again when doing a search in Chrome while logged in. Not getting the error in incognito mode.

Also, the menus still suck on mobile.

Actually my email is a bog-standard Gmail address (isn't everyone's these days?). That's why I'm kind of mystified that the email never arrived.

Hi - I'm brand new to GWJ forums - though I'm a long time listener of the podcast.

I was looking to create a new post (searching for a specific GWJ episode with a certain Graham Rowat reading that I cannot find).

When I attempt to create a new post, I get the error:
The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later.

Thoughts? Workarounds? Do I need to wait for my new account to be ready?

Follow-up: perhaps posting at least once was necessary? I can create new posts now.

If you're brand new, I don't believe you can create new posts until you've posted a certain number of comments - it's an anti-spammer measure.

Trying to do it on a mobile device? Using emoji anywhere in the text? That'll result in that error message.

I'm kind of surprised I'm going to be the one to suggest this, but...

One thing I've seen on Discord (specifically the Waypoint server) is a way for people to mark their account with the pronouns with which they prefer to be referred to. It gets added as a "user role" which you see when you click on them, right alongside their other roles (eg. the games they play and want to group up in):

It's very low-key and not something people are required to do, it's just there for those who care to use it.

I think something similar here would be nice on a user's profile page. Just a simple optional field where someone who cares to can indicate how they prefer to be referred to.

If you're just looking for Grahams readings (and not the episode it was embedded in), they're archived here: https://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/...

You can get to that link off the main ARTICLES tab at the top of the forums.

Obviously the site requires you to create a new post before you can create a new post.

Catch-404?

Oh wow, the More menu remains on mobile. I can actually SEARCH now.

Thank you!!!
