World Cup 2018 - Russia

I wonder how many people in Belgium were looking at the subs brought on (Chadli and Fellaini) and shouting uncomplimentary things about Martinez at the TV?

Japan played very well and were unlucky - could have had a couple in the last few minutes.

That was definitely an awesome match to watch! What a ride!

Lukaku's run to draw the defender inside to open up De Bruyne's pass wide and then the dummy to let the ball roll through to Chadli was brilliant.

Absolutely. I am sure everyone in the world except Lukaku thought he would be taking the potential game winner. The dummy was brilliance.

I posted after his scuffed shot and missed header that he didn't have it today, and his best shot turned out to be the one he didn't take.

Japan-Belgium was the first game of the tournament that I actually streamed at work. I think that I chose wisely.

I felt really badly for the Japanese players at the end of the match. They were punished for putting players forward to find the winner.

Adios, muchachos!

And with that, I think all of the teams I want to see lose are done. It's all gravy from here!

Nah, Russia is still in.

Fair. I just have no animus against Russia from a footballing standpoint. I couldn't tell you if we've played them in my lifetime. I believe I already made my joke about them killing Apollo Creed.

Also, I don't think they can win it, which colored my thinking. Uruguay possibly can, and I definitely don't want to see Suarez lift the trophy.

Bottom line: I spoke too soon.

Proposed tactics against Brazil:

1. Get one ahead
2. Look cross at Neymar
3. Relax while time runs out

You're welcome, Martinez.

This has been a hell of a world cup so far. Like, it's easily better than 2014 already.

Funny thing is at work today, I told someone there that I'm OK with all the remaining teams, then was reminded about Russia.

Just checking in, man I hope Neymar is OK...I think they have ankle replacements nowadays right?

The hits just keep on coming.

And a quick summary for this WC's best game:

Well Sweden v Switzerland. This has got to be one of the hardest games to call. I'm going to edge Sweden I think.

Yeah my vibe is Sweden as well. Some close opportunities for both sides though!

Is it easier to call with this?

That's just cheesy.

Hell, it ain't pretty, but it gets the job done.
I have a feeling England and Colombia won't be able to beat this Sweden.

I don’t think England or Colombia will have fear of Sweden at all after that.

Just so you all know, apparently Neymar is still rolling around on the pitch.

In case you were wondering.

Carry on.

I didn't say anything about fear.

Vamos, Colômbia!

Man, Colombia hasn't done much in the first half! Hopefully England can find the net.

Hopefully not!

Headbutts and shoulder charges for everybody!

How on Earth Colombia still have 11 players on the pitch I don’t understand. Thank goodness for Harry Kane!

First full game I've had a chance to watch and I can't believe how many yellow cards are flying around.

Yeah, changed my mind. No way I'm rooting for that whiney bunch. So go England I guess!

You owe it to yourself to watch the second half of Japan v Belgium if at all possible. Fantastic play by two teams respecting the game and each other.

You would think a referee from CONCACAF would be able to deal with the CONCACAFing but Geiger has not been good.

For all my Canadian friends, you're welcome!

Dammit

Oh my.

Spoiler:

Coaches really need to learn that 1-0 is not enough.

Well sh*t.
