NFL 2018 Offseason Thread

Who was it years ago vouching for Jameis Winston because he followed him through college and thought the negative stuff about him was bad mouthing or whatever? I don't think it turned out so well. Jameis is a moron.

What is heartening is that most father conversation about him I've seen is mostly wondering why only 3 games. A few think TB should cut bait right now.

One thing the Uber groping incident has done is significantly reduce any reasonable doubt I may have had at his previous rape allegation.

Yeah how many times has he gotten away with it that we haven’t heard anything. 3 games is a joke.

Bam Bam is retiring:

Game over, man. Game over!

I will admit, it was probably me that you are thinking of. At this point I can't (and have no desire to) defend him. I will always have my doubts about what did or didn't happen in Tallahassee, but given recent developments it surely does not look good. What bothers me the most is that he (allegedly) had Ronald Darby lie for him about the Uber incident (I only read this somewhere, not sure where) and Darby was also one of the witnesses in his defense in college.

Edit: I, too, wonder about the 3 games. Here we have a situation where he admits that something happened and gets 3, where last year Elliot adamantly maintained his innocence and got the full 6. Even when there was documented evidence that the accuser in that situation was actively trying to screw Elliot. I know that part of it is that Winston "confessed" and cooperated, but that, IMO, sends a really sh*tty message.

MMQB has this as their third story:

BORTLES COULD BE READY TO TURN THE CORNER

Take a drink, please.

And this quote, in particular, is fascinating:

“A lot of the time, I don’t blame him, he just looked over at [Allen Robinson], and threw him the ball. And he’s like, ‘Hey, that’s my security blanket, that’s what I was doing in college.’”

That sure explains Allen Robinson's breakout year. Bortles fed him.

The rest of the article talks about how Bortles has finally learned to play QB instead of just slinging it far all the time.

Well, Bortles is the limiting factor in terms of how far this Jags team can get. I still firmly believe the team should have acquired Teddy Bridgewater to bring competition to the QB position, without just replacing Bortles outright. But that article lays out why they believe Bortles can be the guy. They'd better be right.

Calais "All World" Campbell and Malik "On Fleek" Jackson would make a fantastic wrestling duo. I don't like wrestling and pretty much never watched it except when Dwayne Johnson would say silly things, but if those two decided they needed new careers I'd be all over it.

You always know the person being interviewed is Calais Campbell if the camera is pointed at the ceiling.

I'm so happy that dude still has gas left in the tank.

It's almost a shame he didn't go to Denver last year as we'd be talking about how their defense is the best, but Denver's QB situation last year was even worse than Jacksonville.

As was Baltimore's.

Both have better future prospects at QB though...

Anyway, it's pretty disgusting that Jacksonville added that no-name 1st round DT. Even if he wasn't as hot a property as others who were let, just adding some youth and depth to an already deep line is disgusting.

I see that low-key $wag Kelly love you're throwing down, and I approve.

All I know is that one of those teams needed to cough up a one for SB MVP and Co owner of most TD’s in a game record Nick Foles.

Reuben Foster suspended 2 games by the NFL, as a result of the minor weapons charge he pled no contest to, and the dismissed drug charge.

In NFL world, an improperly stored firearm and possession of an increasingly legalized substance, neither of which harmed anyone, is 66.67% as bad as sexually assaulting a woman.

That's not a complaint about Foster's two games, of course, which is fair and appropriate, I think.

I’m generally not surprised by the lack of outrage over Winston’s 3 game instead of 6. But that just goes to show you were the priorities lie. Beat up women ok but you better stand for the ”flag” or we are totally not going to watch.

Happy Jason Pierre Paul Day everyone!

This. Disgusting

I'm surprised Foles is still on the roster. I'm sure I made a prediction earlier that he would not be.

Essentially, the Eagles chose Foles over Mychal Kendricks, which is a move I did not see coming, but maybe I should have, because Kendricks had been asking out of Philly before the 2017 season. Philly's base nickel defense is 4-2-5, so only two linebackers on the field, and Kendricks often wasn't one of them unless there was an injury (like with Jordan Hicks last year).

Landing Kendricks out of nowhere was a good get for the Browns, and as for the Eagles, if the team thinks they're in a position to repeat, I understand the desire to keep the QB position stocked in case of emergency.

Cowboys All or Nothing was pretty lame. Way too much focus on the Jones family.

Aaaaand now I'll never watch it.

Yeah, ugh, who wants to see that garbage.

Madden’s new ratings are out. I thought this breakdown of how each team stacks up is interesting.

Also, Mahomes got screwed as a 77 OVR, while Baker Matfield got an 81. So, big ol’ grain of salt...

Joe Flacco was rated 90+, right?

LOL Almost!
Flacco and Lamar Jackson are both 79 OVRs, but are quite different. I think they may have overdone Jackson by tring to make him the next Michael Vick, with 90+ speed, acceleration and agility.

His Louisville tape sure looked like 90+ speed, acceleration, and agility.

So only five teams have more 73+ players than the Browns? Someone screwed up somewhere.

I thin 90+ guys matter more. I did a quick and dirty calculation that gave each team 5 points for every 90+, 3 points for every 80+, and one point for every 73+ player. Football is going to suck in New York, according to Madden.

San Fran 49rs 31 13 2 = 80
Chicago Bears 34 15 1 = 84
Cincy Bengals 30 12 2 = 76
Buffalo Bills 28 11 2 = 71
Denver Broncos 33 16 1 = 86
Cleveland Browns 35 17 0 = 86
Tampa Buccs 31 15 2 = 86
Arizona Cards 28 10 2 = 68
LA Chargers 33 18 4 = 97
KC Chiefs 34 15 3 = 94
Indy Colts 31 11 0 = 63
Dallas Cowboys 32 17 7 = 118
Miami Dolphins 34 12 1 = 80
Philly Eagles 34 27 9 = 142
Atlanta Falcons 32 23 5 = 80
NY Giants 22 12 2 = 68
Jax jaguars 31 19 5 = 103
NY Jets 30 9 0 = 57
Detroit Lions 34 15 1 = 89
GB Packers 30 15 3 = 90
Carolina Panthers 31 15 2 = 86
NE Pats 43 22 3 = 124
Oakland Raiders 37 18 1 = 96
LA Rams 25 17 4 = 96
Baltimore Ravens 38 15 1 = 88
Washington Redskins 29 15 3 = 89
New Orleans Saints 36 21 4 = 119
Seattle Seahawks 31 12 5 = 82
Pitt Steelers 30 15 3 = 90
Houston Texans 27 12 4 = 83
Tennessee Titans 33 18 1 = 92

Yep. Saw his numbers on Twitter this weekend. Looks about right.
