Grand Theft Auto V

This year is the game's 5 year anniversery.

Let me know if you ever want to delve into GTA online and need to run a few heists. Still haven't finished quite a few of them.

I think it still looks fantastic on XboneX.

There are graphic mods if you are playing on PC.

Do mods still work? I thought they banned all custom mods a while back?

I try to avoid going down the mod rabbit hole. The still-quite-good-but-less-good-than-I-was-expecting-for-some-reason graphics aren't distracting enough to me to want to start fiddling around.

You know, I thought the whole play as three different character thing and switching between them was a gimmick that didn’t sound very cool, but I’m really digging it. It allows a good selection of different missions as well as different story tracks for each character.

I certainly think dividing your classic GTA side activities between the characters--Michael = high stakes, investment stuff, Franklin = low stakes, hustler stuff, Trevor = blow sh*t up stuff--was a very clever and effective bit of characterization. Not deep or anything, but it pretty elegantly tells you a lot about them.

I'm not a prude and I know I was playing a Grand Theft Auto Game, but the (mandatory) torture mini-game? Yuck. Not my thing and don't think it needed to be in there.

Yeah, that was pretty bad, but totally in character. It's one of the things that makes me reevaluate the games I am playing.

Yea, but I guess there is a level of disconnect when I am reading about a character doing a torture (I don't have agency, other than to continue reading) and pushing buttons to make a character perform character (I do have agency, I am the one pushing the buttons and making the torture happen). Not a fan and if it were a common part of a game, I just wouldn't play that game.

Oh, I fully agree.
I remeber the Wrath of the Lich King for wow had a torture mission on tge alliance side. Even though it was pretty tame visually, it still made me pause to consider what I was doing.

Not to get all tedious, but I think it's worth noting that if your options are "Do this thing or Stop Playing," ya kinda don't have "agency" as it's currently understood. I remember being pretty fed up with the single player by that point, though.

I get where you’re coming from, but up to that point in the game, the feeling of player agency was pretty well established. Then for RS to just flip it on you like that is pretty divisive.

There are many subtle choices made by RS in developing GTA V that have me worried about them ruining Red Dead Next. GTA V is the first in the series that I have not felt compelled to finish. I know that one of the Houser brothers left RS to go work on Wall Street. Maybe he was the “good one”. Haha. I feel like a jerk for saying that, but it might be true.

Slightly off topic:
Mafia III is a GTA like. I bought it last year during the Xbox summer sale. I got it dirt cheap. I hadn’t dipped into it at all until a couple of days ago.

It’s freekin’ excellent!! It’s like playing a well made movie. While the shooting bits are janky, ( its a GTA like ), the driving physics are great. ( But you do have to change the settings to simulated driving ).

I really like Mafia II but I’m trying to not buy any games in 2018, as an exercise in willpower.

Eh... my monkey brain doesn’t agree with that. My monkey brains knows that pushing button X tortures a guy, and it knows that I’m choosing to push X, so it thinks I’m the one doing it, on some level.

I kind of always had the impression that discomfort is sort of the point of that scene. I hated playing it, and it also showed a strange dichotomy for Trevor.

Yeah, he's Trevor - he's still willing to do what he "has to" in that scene, but there was also a . . . inhibition to him. I'll have to play through the game again (I've actually half-started a 2nd playthrough recently) to see if I'm remembering correctly, but I remember getting a "I don't really WANT to do this, but if I gotta, I gotta...." vibe from Trevor.

Of course all of that still begs the question whether (deliberately uncomfortable or not), that scene was necessary, served a clear purpose to the overall plot, or if Rockstar had really "earned" putting such a scene into play...

I'm trying to play this. I am unable to log into my Social Club account. I tried to reset my password but I've never seen the email. I've placed 3 tickets with Rockstar and tweeting their support. Nothing.

Any other suggestions besides buying this game again on Steam?

I'm guess don't give them money if they won't help you with support. It's not like they'll get better at it.
Probably not the answer you want, but maybe worth considering.

Yeah I absolutely wouldn't re-buy it. Are you certain you don't have another e-mail associated with the account? Since Social Club is kinda old I had it linked with a yahoo account that I never used anymore.

Is there a GWJ crew (PC) ?

Rockstar support finally helped me out. I'm not sure what happened, but it looks like the account was hacked by some Russian. I'm not even sure how it happened. I never got an email to change the email or password for this account.

Looks like this ahole played a lot of GTA online.

This happened to me once but I was at least able to catch the e-mail change notification and switched everything back. It's very tedious and annoying. The guy sold 5 of my super cars(For half what I paid for them because that's how GTA works).

And yet they still don't have 2 factor auth.

They do have 2 factor auth. I added that on yesterday. Works with Google Authenticator.

Well that must be new(ish) then, they didn't have when this happened to me 6 months ago.

Yeah must be new. Also, I just found out, that my GTA online account is banned... Looks like I need to contact support again.

What likely happened is they hacked your account so they could use scripts/hacks with it and give themselves or their buddies a ton of GTA cash. That sucks, I hope you can get it overturned.

Once you get banned, your banned permanently. They made an exception with me and restored my GTA online account.

I'm not even sure what GTA Online is really all about. The person that hacked my account had a character with 3.5 million. Is that a lot? Can you play GTA online solo?

$100 = 8m gta money

You can join GTA Online and load into a private server. There's a sh*tload of modes but you can do quite a bit solo. Though there is a lot you need other people(like Heists) or have to do it in a Public Server(like biker club, military base, airport hanger, and CEO-type missions).

For the record I played the game almost always solo, except the Heists, and was usually in a private server unless forced to be in a public server for a mission.

For reference it takes about 6-8 in game hours to fill one large warehouse with import/export goods(have to be in public for this) and if you can sell it without getting f*cked over by other people...you make about 2 million.

I trust we've all seen the big news about the new Nightclubs?

https://socialclub.rockstargames.com...

tl;dr as I understand it:

  • New way for CEO's to make/launder money
  • Login before Monday AND login again next week to get $300,000 and an exclusive bodysuit.
  • Other bonus $$ opportunities will be available throughout July
