I picked up Dbfz a few weeks ago. Still trying to learn how to play. Do we meet up for games at all?

Platform?

PC!

I cannot help you.

If only there were cross platform play. Trying to decide where to buy a game so you can play with people is so hit or miss.

Why wouldn't you pick up PC for everything? When I pay $150+ for a controller I want it to work for a long time. I have a PS1 controller that STILL works on my PC. I'm done with fighting games on consoles and will buy them on PC from now one because of that.

The answer to this has never changed when this questions is asked. Not everyone has the budget for a PC for gaming. Or if they have a PC it is outdated and the cost for upgrading/rebuilding is more than just getting the game on console.

For me, SFV decided PS4 was its default platform (bonus, there is cross-platform with PC) so when folks are out tournaments, they're all on PS4.

So... that's what I've stuck with. Tekken, dbfz, bbtag, kof, all on PS4 and our little fgc talks about what we want to play and decide on a platform ahead of time. We talked Lupus into buying a PS4 even.

When next gen rolls around I will do 2 things:

1.) I have a problem and will inevitably buy and configure a new stick. But only because I have a problem.
2.) I'll actually get around to buying a brooks board or two and put them in my current sticks so I can just flash it for modern compatibility.

Also the PS4 d-pad is marginally less bad than the xbone controller's d-pad.

Speaking mostly out of my arse, but don't console fighting game communities stay more vibrant and for longer than those for PC (for now)?

Generally an FGC flourishes when the game is good and there's a low point of entry (see: Smash). It's easier to do that on a console because you only need TV/Console/Game and in-person events are going to do it as cheaply as possible. I am a PC gamer and sure, it's nice that I can use any stick on this thing but if I'm going to do something in person? I can toss stick/ps4 into a bag and go somewhere.

That said, the reddit SF FGC is actually pretty big and generally extremely helpful. I think now that online play can be good (and it's... fine most of the time), we'll see PC-centric communities pop up and thrive.

What I want, and I think we're moving in this direction, is cross-platform play for everything. I think that's the way forward for the genre and it's how it can stay relevant long-term. Fighting games thrive like other games, with a community. Communities only grow when the content is compelling and it's easy to actually play the game. Cross-platform would do that.

This. Great point, had forgotten about that.
When I was watching Tekken regularly a year ago even the commentators would grip about the PC version not getting any play in tournaments and were resigned to the practicality of having the PS4 as the standardized platform.

Any of you on Xbone have Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite? Just picked it up.

How about Soulcalibur VI? Anyone been following the buzz? I've been out of that universe since playing the %^%^ out of Soulcalibur II and I'm pretty stoked about this one.

Putting this here just because two of the characters in the roster will raise an eyebrow, no idea how it is otherwise since it is coming out next week.

Probably as close as you will get to Indie Fighters: The Game.

Roster
Shovel Knight
Issac from Binding of Issac
Solange, Ali, Master T and Liongate from Code of Princess EX
Quote and Curly Brace from Cave Story+
Kawase, Noko and Emiko from the Umihara Kawase series

Lina and Helen from this game

I'm interested, but as stated above I mostly buy fighters on PC now. I really hope that SCVI will have a thriving playerbase on PC, instead of having a high playerbase at launch; and having it drop off a month or two after release. That's what I'm afraid of every time I buy a fighting game on PC.

Seriously considering getting SC6 but am trying to hold off until winter sales!

Your soul doesn't burn enough.

My soul burns enough, however my PC's does not.

Enabled!

My soul burned such that I picked it up. It plays nice, the characters you actually care about are back, there are two story modes (presented visual novel style, so mileage could vary), I wouldn't say the extensive lore gets "fleshed out" exactly, but it's put to use, and the character creator is as fun as ever.

However, there are still some critical omissions in the roster--Yun-seong, Hilde, Setsuka, and personally I preferred Cassandra to Sophitia. DLC will add some of them...but the existence of this sort of DLC is another issue. And the creator needs more gear and is missing some classics, boots especially. That's more DLC...

It’s solid. Just... matchmaking takes forever and more variance to match performance as a result of loosening connection restrictions to mitigate said slow matchmaking.

Hoping SC6 improves to be on Tekken 7’s level of online performance at some point.

Nier Automata's 2B in Soul calibur 6!
I cried a little, from happiness.

CptDomano has an extra life stream going. Some of us are going to guest on it and play fighting games tonight.

SFV and SC6 for sure. Who knows where else the night takes us.

Come on by for ridicule and donations (for the kids).

9:30 ish to 12:30 ish Eastern.

Is there a GWJ Injustice 2 guild ?

Injustice 2 never caught on round these parts unfortunately.

Its so good !

Sure is. Who ya playing? I put a ton of time into Dr Fate, Enchantress, and Black Manta.

I've started playing SFV ranked finally (only took me 3 years) and I gotta say, it's stressful.

I don't know what's worse, win streak or losing streaks.

I went 3-1 today and ranked up to bronze. I didn't allow any run backs on my wins, I just took them and ran. Sorry, internet. And I didn't need to run back my loss because he kicked the sh*t out of me and I was at a loss how to combat that.

But whew, it's stressful. I'm going to take a break for a few hours.

the only time i've ever played ranked anything fighting-game-wise was like a 2-3 day period in Injustice 2 where I went hog and played like 40 matches, then not since. It was the weirdest stretch of games - I started out roughly 50-50, then for some reason went on a huge downturn and lost literally like 14 matches in a row. I finished up that set by WINNING like 15 in a row, then decided my job was done there. That was my ranked fighting-game-career. #micdrop

If I can win 17 more in the next 6 days I get a ton of in game currency so it’s an excuse to do something I wanted to anyway.

Though my focus needs to not be on winning, it should be on learning.

You sticking with the same character? Who you playing?

Sagat for now. It’s been a journey trying to find a main. Truthfully, I’m still better with Akuma but I had a lot of bad habits I wanted to break so I went some someone slow enough that I needed to play more deliberately.

I might switch back to Juri when her mech costume is out in a few weeks. I’d honestly like to go to ‘Sim or Fang believe it or not but the barrier feels too high.

Her what now? Oh that looks sweet. Reminds me a lot of D.Va.
