World Cup 2018 - Russia

Welp, this documentary's putting me off flying.

Not quite. There is a scenario where they don't get through, but they control their destiny. Win or draw vs Sweden and they are through, although that will be a taller order now that Sweden needs a result.

Germany is going to come out flying vs Korea.

They don't want to finish 2nd. Unless there's some upsets it would be Brazil then Belgium.

Yeah silly me. I figured 6 points was enough, but I guess there's a chance now. That's crazy.

I mentioned earlier that I was looking forward to three teams being tied with 6 points and a +1 GD.

This article points out that if Korea and Mexico both win 1:0, there could also be a 3-way tie for the second spot in the group.

Wednesday should be fun.

That's why I need Son to go HAM on Germany.

No kidding, right? To go from winning your first two games, including beating the defending champs, to having the possibility of not advancing is nuts.

Related, just saw this on Reddit:

So if Mexico loses 1-0, and Germany wins 1-0, Mexico, Sweden, and Germany will all be 2-1 with 3 goals scored and 2 goals against.

Tiebreaker 1 (points)- 3 way tie

Tiebreaker 2 (goal differential)- 3 way tie

Tiebreaker 3 (goals scored)- 3 way tie

Tiebreaker 4 (points in games between teams concerned)- 3 way tie

Tiebreaker 5 (goal differential between teams concerned)- 3 way tie

Tiebreaker 6 (goals scored in games between teams concerned)- Mexico would have 1, Germany and Sweden would have 2, so Mexico would be out

For determining Sweden/Germany, I believe it would come down to their fair play conduct (pretty much less cards)

Me and my girlfriend have been planning someone meals/snacks themed off the teams playing. One problem is that we'd need to make a lot of it from scratch though, which would come at quite the cost. The UK supermarkets tend to have large sections for Italian, Chinese and Indian food here, unfortunately for our World Cup of food hopes.

I'm considering going out for Sushi and Sapporo at 11am for the Japan/Senegal tomorrow.

Yep, this FIFA page explains the details of the fair play conduct as well (the 7th tiebreaker).

If that doesn't work to break a tie, then it's a draw of lots! Crazy!

Once we get past the 3rd tiebreaker, it should be decided via a randomly chosen other sport. Like a 3-point contest or a game of dodgeball.

Uh. So..... England.

Panama is terrible. 3 messes for goals + Lingard beauty.

Going to be hard to guage how good England and Belgium are playing from this group.

Now they mugged 2 seperate people in the box for a Pk. Even the ref called it before VAR.

Complete implosion.

The United States did not manage to finish ahead of this Panama team.

The part of me that hyped up England pre-tournament wants them to score an own goal here so they finish 2nd.

The other part of me that has watched a lot of CONCACAFing wants Panama to lose by double digits. Can't turn off the power to the stadium to interrupt the momentum here.

We talked about bastards before. This whole Panama team has a lot of players going for the bastard trophy. Hell, they're going for the complete top 10.

I don't usually support England, but in this case, you go ahead and break the Hungary x El Salvador record (10 - 1).

P.S.: Cristiano must be feeling pissed for not having Panama in the group.
P.P.S.: Shut up, Neymar.
P.P.P.S.: Russian doping? Again?

I had a great US world cup moment yesterday. Had to take the metro out to see my inlaws so missed most of second half of Germany-Sweden. Came out of metro in last 4 minutes of game and watched on my phone with wife in 7-11 parking lot next to metro stop. When Kroos scored, we both yelled out in parking lot and instead of looking at us like crazies in any other circumstance, people ran over to see who won. There was a lot of poor Sweden sentiments but it was a cool moment where a bunch of randos chatted about an amazing goal and hovered over my phone passing it around watching the replay.

Commentators claiming Kane has five goals. They're clearly forgetting the opener he scored for Denmark against Australia.

England need to concede another or pick up a couple more cards - they're 1 better than Belgium in the fair play table.

I laughed pretty hard at this. Thank you Mr Bismarck.

I had to google that. Hah.

this should still be in the dispute process

Man, I love everything about this Colombia kit except the treadmark where Japan ran over them in the previous game.

Poland's kit-makers have fewer ideas than their attacking players.

I kinda hate that PKs count the same as brilliant bangers from the run of play in the race for the golden boot.

Oh that was pretty. Little chip and header.

Pro Colombia.

These fans deserve some more games. Also feel like if they get rolling they can play spoiler in the knock out rounds.

Dale Colombia!

Did someone mention England's fourth goal? Well planned and well scored.

The Poland kit also kind of has a treadmark... so Senegal 4x4?

That Colombian goal was really nice. Reminds me of why everyone liked them in 2014. Would not mind if Japan and Colombia went to the knockout round.
Poland looks so bland. They have no ideas.

Paging UCRC...

So apparently Belgium and England are tied to a tee right now, making "fair play" the deciding factor for winning the group. England has one yellow card less than Belgium (2 to 3). Meaning that if their encounter ends in a draw (which is not unlikely at all), the group will be decided based on the number of cards each team earns during the game.

Yeah, looks like Poland's going home.

My opinion of 2014 is jaded but hasn't this been a much better group stage?

I feel like there's 10 teams who could still win the tournament and some of those could still not even get out of the group stage potentially.
