Android Games Catch-All

Eden Obscura, from the PixelJunk team, is pretty fun. The controls are surprising intuitive for mobile play and how they use the phone's camera lends an interesting variety to the atmosphere of each level. A few changes from the original include a variety of grimp (playable characters) to choose from, each with unique attributes, and pre-garden selectable power-ups that modify gameplay that take time/chance to replenish. While the power-ups do make interesting/useful changes to how a garden is played, I haven't found them to be necessary to finish any given garden this far. The game itself is free, though I did already pay them for access to a new level, perhaps unnecessarily, because I wanted to support the devs for their continually appreciated work.

Thank you for bringing this up. I'd played a fair bit of PixelJunk Eden on the PS3 but could never quite get past the controls. I'm on a few stages in to this version but so far it seems to be closer to what i was hoping Eden was in the first place.

I've been playing a lot of Solitairica. The simplest way I can describe it is reverse battle solitaire. You are trying to get all the cards back into your hand before the AI kills you. It's that simple, but it has me hooked for the time being.

Solitairica is amazingly addictive. I have beaten the emperor on epic on with all but two of the characters (primal included). I'm looking forward to completing bard and barbarian runs, if only so that I don't get sucked in for 10-15 minutes while I'm waiting in line for groceries.

Surprised I made it out of this.

Finally having a device that can play android apps, I decided to try Solitairica, but there is something I may not be understanding about the progression system. I do understand that it's rogue-like and you lose everything between attempts, but is this a game that you have to play from beginning to end without turning it off, or is there some way that it saves progression if you don't die and just want to stop the game and start again later? Or do people really play for something like 27 hours straight?

So far, it's fun, but having to keep fighting the same one or two creatures at the beginning of the game because that's all I have time for in a session will probably get a lot less exciting.

I typically don't close the app, I leave it running in the background. Whenever I open it again it picked right up where I left off.

Oh that's good to know, thanks! Didn't even think about just letting it run.

I force close it after beating a level. Always picks up where I left off. Seems to save after I buy something in the shop as well.
I wish it did have a cloud save feature though. I recently got a new phone and lost all my history.

Any spare minute today I spent playing...

Pocket City (high quality no-microtransactions city building game) is currently half price ($2.49) on the US store.

I play the free version of it. It's a remarkably well made mobile version of a classic SimCity game.

Sweet! Glad I caught this in time. I have beaten Hole Down to death so I need something new.

Thanks to Google Opinion Rewards, I never really pay for games.

Thank you! Love city builder games!

Thanks for the heads up. I'm enjoying it so far, including the random thoughts of citizens in the town.

I got Pocket City at full price about a month ago and it was well worth it at that price.

I just lost 30 minutes to Pocket City and didn't even realize it. Wow.

So uh, I switched from IOS to a nice Galaxy Note 9. I've spent the last week learning how to use it as it's a bit different from my old iPhone 6s.

Any game recommendations? There's a separate App thread right? Throw your absolute must haves at me!

Motorsport Manager Mobile has been on my phone in some form for the past 3 years.

Welcome to the other side!

I'm not sure what Apple has, but I'm pretty sure emulation is only available on Android. You can play some nice SNES/GBA/N64/Gamecube(?) games on android, and usb controllers are ridiculously easy to set up. It's pretty amazing!

I am sure there are a lot of great traditional mobile games out there, but 99% of my phone gaming time is spent playing ports of board games. I can give some recommendations if that interests you.

Going from an S7 to a Pixel 3 later this month. Looking forward to having the processor power to do some of the newer games without tons of lag.

Dragon Quest 9 and 10 (offline) to be ported to smartphones!

Hope these come this way!

Edit---i stand corrected I guess I'll have to actual read articles before posting ;p

Expectations greatly tempered now.

That's not at all what that article said. Lol

They're attempting to port IX to mobile but are having trouble replicating Streetpass and maybe found a solution.

X they said probably not, but never say never.

Damnit I saw it in a twitter post that said that. I admit I didnt read the article lol.

X had me doubtful I cant see them bothering with the translation for a mobile port.

Happy with all the recommendations, bring em on

I played all those but Enyo. Guess I know what mobile gaming hole to fill next.

EDIT: turns out I already own it. Reinstalling now

Nice suggestions. I've got Pocket City on the iPad and it's great there. I like the sound of Solitarica and Card Crawl. Thanks!

So what's the motorsport manager one?

So what's the motorsport manager one?

It's a racing management sim. You build a racing team and find drivers, mechanics, engineers, build car parts, expand your HQ, train new drivers, etc. Between races. During races you manage racing strategies, when to pit, what tires to put on, when to push/conserve, watch weather etc. It's been really addictive for me. I've bought every version of the game on mobile and pc.
