Cyberpunk Catch-All

I'm ready for the machinima series coming out of that world.

Edit: 2 year old and 2 week old offspring means I won't be playing anytime soon.

Character creation confirmed! It's mentioned in the hidden trailer text! Noice!

It’s been over 2077 days since we announced our plan to develop Cyberpunk 2077. We released a CGI trailer, gave some interviews and… went dark. Normal procedure for these kinds of things — you announce a game and then shut up, roll up your sleeves and get to work. We wanted to give you the Witcher 3 and both expansions first, which is why this period of staying silent was longer than we planned. Sorry for that.

As soon as we concluded work on Blood and Wine, we were able to go full speed ahead with CP2077’s pre-production. But we chose to remain silent. Why? At she point we made the decisions to resume talking about the game when we have something to show. Something meaningful and substantial. This is because we do realize you’ve been impatiently waiting for a very long time, and we wouldn’t like anyone to feel that we’re taking this for granted. On the contrary — it gives us a lot of extra motivation. The hype is real, so the sweat and tears need to be real, too

But to the point. Today is the day. If you’re seeing this, it means you saw the trailer. - our vision for Cyberpunk, an alternative version of the future where America is in pieces, megacorporations control all aspects of civilized life, and gangs rule the rest. And, while this world is full of adrenaline, don’t let the car chases and guns mislead you. Cyberpunk 2077 is a true single player, story-driven RPG. You’ll be able to create your own character and… well, you’ll get to know the rest of what show at our booth at E3. Be on the lookout for the previews!

Before we finish, you probably have some questions,

1. When?

When we told you we would only release the game when it’s ready, we meant it. We’re definitely much closer to a release date than we were back then but it’s still not the time to confirm anything, so patience is still required. Quality is the only thing that drives us. It’s the beauty of being an independent studio and your own publisher.

2. How big?

Seriously big, but… to be honest, we have no bloody clue at this point in time. Once we put it all together, we will openly tell you what you can expect. And we promise we’ll do this before we start talking about pre-orders or ask anything of you.

3. Free DLC/Expansions/DRM

Expect nothing less than you got with The Witcher 3. As for DRM, CP2077, will be 100% DRM-free on PC.

4. Microtransactions?

In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?

Once again, thank you for your patience. If you have a minute, do visit cyberpunk.net and share your opinion (about anything) with us. We read everything you posted we treat it very seriously.

Yours,

CD PROJEKT RED Team

Well, your kids might be at school before this game is released.

Edit: Good to hear that they will show more of the game at E3, because that trailer really told nothing beside looking cool.

All those college payments will probably mean you won't be able to afford it when it's finally released :p

I really dig that in the trailer they had something resembling the Chrome handbook in the background. They're really trying to hit all corners for fans and new folks.

Dope. Can't wait. I like how colorful it is!!! Sets it apart from things like Blade Runner.

Right! I love me some Deus Ex, but the almost monochrome environments were tiring after a while. This looks way more like Transmetropolitan.

This screams Holiday 2020 release.

My prediction.

1: It will be a little buggy at first.

2: CDProjekt make good by quickly patching and go on to release a shed load of free content.

3: It raises the bar for just how good RPG's could be.

4: Bethesda release fallout 5. A base building sim where every dialogue option is yes/no/deeznuts.

I won't lie. My brain shut down for about 2 minutes after this trailer.

Hope some gameplay comes out soon.

This trailer perked me up. It had a Rockstar/GTA style to it.

The hidden text referred to the first trailer and how it was CGI. So this new trailer is in-engine maybe? Looks a bit too good for that.. assuming we’ll see this get released for PS4/X1 era.

Look forward to some gameplay walhroughs in the coming days.

You can, at least according to the latest RPS article you can, which I can't link because I'm on my phone with crappy internet.

This looks very, very promising indeed.

Awesome. I sketched a whole bunch of Cyberpunk 2020 characters as a kid. I remember - a medic, a lone ranger trench coat type, an all shiny chrome cyber soldier, a rusty old timer... more long forgotten.

A solid character creation and I probably won't get to play the actual game

I wonder if they'll be able to do characters as engaging as the ones in W3? Geralt's pretty bland and not very interesting, but the various NPCs around him are fascinating and memorable. So many great, strong characters in W3. One of my particular favorites, for instance, was Dijkstra, who most emphatically isn't a good guy, but his motivations make sense and his voice actor is awesome. I don't know how much of that comes from the source material and how much is CD Projekt, but many of the characters are so richly textured that I think CDPR must have been responsible for a lot of it.

Which, in turn, gives me high hopes for Cyberpunk. It's not a genre that's been heavily exploited; there were a batch of books from the late 80s through the early 2000s or so, but that's been most of it. And Shadowrun, of course. So it's got nothing like the massive exposure that, say, zombie horror does, or vampires, or sword-swinging medieval RPGs. Lots of room to innovate and do something grand.

Also lots of room to screw the pooch, but my trust level for that team is very high. They're probably the only AAA developer left that I think highly of.

Dijkstra while not a major character in the books is a well fleshed out character who is basicly a sh*t hot spy who most people seem to underestimate (until its too late). If you read The Time of Contempt you'll discover why he blames Gerralt for his leg hurting every time it rains.

As a general rule the fantastic characters in the games are from the books. To give CDProjekt credit they were amazingly faithful to the books and continued to write dam good plots themselves.

I literally posted the text from the trailer that confirms character creation at the top of this page

If you can't tell from my avatar I am a sucker for cyberpunk stuff so I am in on day one for this game.

The new trailer says it’s in game engine on screen at the beginning.

Forgot about that part.

Amazingly I missed that blurb about the trailer being in engine. That’s crae crae. Amazingly that means I’ve only played through the entire trailer once so far.

I would love future trailers to feature different narrators, if only to drive home the point about free form character creation. This time it was male street samurai/hustler type. Next one can star female hacker or crusty old world veteran.

I’ve always loved cyberpunk genre although it seems like the genre will be getting harder to cater to as a sci-fi sub genre because present day is catching up so quickly.

Anyhoo... where is the gameplay footage already??

I wonder if they will keep the name when the game is released in 2078?

I know that Waypoint, and I assume other outlets, are going to the CDPR presentation on Tuesday morning. I'm hoping that there will be gameplay footage after that.

Is there any game play videos out? I mean, again, this is like the teaser they out out a couple years ago and still no actual game play footage?

A lot of modern game engines are technically capable of rendering near photorealistic scenes with lots of detail and huge character counts. They could be rendering it off line at 8k resolution with the lighting options maxed and running at a frame per minute.

It could be very different running in actual gameplay conditions on target hardware.

That said, given the abuse that CDPR took with the differences between the early showing of Witcher 3 and the final result, my guess is that what they are showing here is pretty close to what we will see on the screen in real time.

If that's in-game NON CUTSCENE footage, I'll eat my high-end graphics card.

Technically it’s “in engine” if they run the game but all the game does is play an embedded video? :p

Which is exactly why it will be interesting to see if CDProject can create their own fleshed out memorable characters in Cyberpunk, as opposed to pulling them from the source material like in the Witcher series.

I am not convinced they can and excited to find out.

P.S. Some characters in W3, though, like the Red Baron (?, it's been a long time since I played), have been invented by CDProject and they are interesting, so who knows.

It's obviously primarily cutscenes, but does that really matter since it is with the game's engine?

My big question and they only show the results in the video and not how it works, but want to know details on hacking in the game. Are we going to go into the systems themselves with a minigame to navigate or will it just be results based on skill rolls?

This is why the co-creator, Mike Pondsmith, is part of their production team
