Fallout: 76 Catch-All

I assume the GTA V sales are kids growing old enough to convince their parents to finally buy it for them. I'd think everyone else would already own it.

I actually hadn’t played GTAV until this year ( and I found it to be a really great game! ). So that could happen to someone like me, I just didn’t know there were that many of me.

You didn't have companions in your previous Fallout games?

Of course I did. It's part of the single player experience. And that's not what I meant by wanting to be alone in my Fallout game.

I don't want the frustration of being killed by a mini-nuke the moment I exit the vault, followed by getting teabagged by the shooter who tells me he did crude things to my mom last night. Ok, maybe a worst case scenario, but it is my big fear of most multiplayer games that no matter how good the actual game might be, there will always be people who will do all they can to ruin it for others.

Agreed. Players can pull you out of the narrative so quickly; won't be long before some idiot is screaming about all the caps they farmed that you can purchase for real money if you just hit them up via PM.

Obviously the solution is to only play with GWJ-ers.

These are my concerns too. I guess we’ll see. I could see something like how I understand Dark Souls handles multiplayer, in that the effects are much less direct than other players bunny-hopping and throwing Molotovs at me, emoting vulgarly.

Rust is the most expedient comparison to make because it’s one of the more formative and well known games of the mp survival genre, but there are others that handle pvp in more nuanced ways or even restrict it entirely. Considering that the basic story of the game is about vault dwellers who’ve been living together for twenty years leaving their vault to rebuild it wouldn’t make a ton of sense for it to be as pvp-centric as Rust. I expect it will be an option for those who want it but the game will probably be more cooperative pve than anything else.

Asynchronous multi-player! Seven people playing vault-dwellers and one person playing a Legendary Death-Claw, like Friday the 13th the Game!

A persistent world PVE game where you band together to build societies and fend off all sorts of nasties would be something I could get behind.

Getting ganked by 12 year olds screaming racial epithets while I try and defend my sheet metal hut and 20 bottle caps isn’t.

This, and add Opt-In PVP .. and/or lawless zones / events.

LOL.

Love the added touch with the font treatment.

I wonder if it will be the persistent world Fortnite (Save the world version) that a lot of folks were wanting. I love Fortnite but really wish it was persistent world, building up bases and trap corridors to fend off roving zombies etc instead of the mission/map based gameplay we currently have.

I don't know...building up bases just wouldn't be the same without Preston Garvey there telling me what to do.

Totally agree. I have no interest in a short cycle build and end, start again in 30 minutes.. or even a week or a month. That's one of the things that turned me off of Rust.

Oh I thought Rust was persistent? I only watched a couple of trailers for it years ago so I'm way not up-to-speed just like generally in life but also as regards the video game Rust.

I'm okay with online only so long as it has different servers for PvP and secondly there's content for casuals and for those seeking the challenging raids. Oh and no camping for lottery spawns, because that was so 2005.

In most MP Survival games buildings gradually decay while the player is logged out or in a distant part of the map to prevent servers from being choked by abandoned buildings. The decay timer in Rust was particularly aggressive, with lower level buildings falling apart after just a few hours. Newer games tend to be more generous or have options to turn off decay.

Tagging because Fallout. Even though FO4 is kicking my ass every time I try to play it.

I love me some Fallout so, yeah, I'll be definitely looking into this.

nvm

Are there any good podcasts that focus on the Fallout world?

Fallout Off the Record was the only one I found back when I was looking and it was...okay. Not to slag on anyone involved, but I was looking for a few things and it hit one of them--it was nominally about the Fallout world and games. But it's fallen dormant for a year-and-a-half or so now.

Other than that, no idea. Looking around now there are a few Reddit threads asking the same and everything else that had been produced is also defunct.

Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios promised the game would be “four times bigger” than 2015’s Fallout 4.

Four times bigger? What does that mean?

That you have to spend 4 times longer running between interesting stuff.
Sigh. This has been a trend with all their games tbh.

It comes on a laserdisc instead of a DVD.

If one could take all of the key areas in Fallout4... and add enough space between them to make a game four times bigger... would that make anybody happy? "Yay, more walking!" At least, that's my first impression, lol.

If this truly is a multiplayer survival game all that extra space will definitely be needed and appreciated.

Every building has an extra 3 floors.

I have zero experience with multiplayer survival games. Why is a lot of space needed in those?
