Grrr... too many games like that have been in development pre-Switch. Hopefully it comes out there soon too.

Crap. I don't even remember what that last trailer was or why it's unavailable. Could have sworn my links were from PlayStation's YouTube channel.

Anywho, how about Bioshock, but with Russian flair.

RAGE 2 – Announce Trailer

WTF was that? That trailer was horrible.

That was one of the worst bits of game marketing I've seen.

I played all the way through Rage and promptly forgot about it. I was impressed with the graphics, but it all felt very thin and seemed to be a bit of a wasted opportunity.

BUT..., apparently Rage 2 is being made by Avalanche, the developers of Just Cause and the Mad Max open world game. It sounds like Avalanche was prepped to make a Mad Max sequel and it fell apart amidst rights-holder problems. Bethesda stepped in and repurposed the work for Rage 2.

Anyway, while this trailer didn't do anything for me, learning that Avalanche is developing the game has piqued my interest. Avalanche's Mad Max game was a really solid effort and an incredible value.

Umm ok I guess we should get ready to die.

Gameplay revel tomorrow though. If they can mix Avalanche's driving with the original Rage's shooting and maybe Avalanche's open world tech it could be pretty cool.

I mean....Rage was pretty forgettable (with one of the most insultingly awful abrupt endings I think I've ever seen in a game) but Bethesda seem to have a good eye for id remakes/sequels with Doom and Wolfenstein, so I'll take a look at what they're offering. If they're pushing for more of a Borderlands look/feel then that would certainly help.

Rubbish trailer though.

It's a new marketing technique. Make the worst trailer imaginable, and the game can't help but look okay in comparison.

Today's gameplay trailer is much more appealing, and makes the existence of the yesterday's trailer all the more puzzling:

Rumors discussed on various podcasts this week indicate that this was going to be the followup to Avalanche's 2015 Mad Max game, but licensing got tricky so they found their way over to Bethesda and reworked it into being a Rage sequel (possibly combining efforts with remnants of previous efforts towards a Rage 2). Even though I skipped the Mad Max game (I had more than enough of Batman Arkham style combat at the time) and Rage (didn't need another passable post apocalyptic shooter at the time), I'm actually oddly interested in this.

Funny that it might be coming around the same time as Borderlands 3, though, as there seem to be a lot of very obvious comparisons to be made there.

I might play it if it's got co-op. It makes me think of a post-apocalyptic Destiny given some of the gameplay (as well as the obvious Borderlands and Mad Max comparisons (plus Far Cry given that awful monologue)). Get a friend or two to join and that could be a good time.

Just a single player open-world FPS though? Eeehhh...

I'm in. Day One. Mashing two games I loved together (Rage & Mad Max) by a developer who made one of the funnest games of last generation (Just Cause 2).

I wonder how Rage 2 fits in Bethesda's business strategy? They already have a post-apocalyptic franchise. They already have an action shooter franchise. Maybe it's an effort to rival Ubisoft's open world action games?

Also, I wonder if Bethesda will be transitioning their core RPG franchises to Avalanche's open world engine. The legacy engine they're using for Skyrim and Fallout is seeming awfully creaky.

Man, if they could figure out a way to slather Doom 2016's fast & fluid gunplay on top of Rage 2 we could be looking at an easy home-run. I already like the attitude & presentation from that gameplay trailer.

Could be a pipe dream though as I understand that the devs behind Mad Max didn't code the latest Doom.

I am a sucker for lists.

They've stated they have a very big show planned for E3 and there's a lot of talk about them announcing Starfield which is supposed to be on a new engine.

They seem to say this about just about every game they release though. Oblivion? New engine (but it wasn't). Fallout 3? New engine (but it wasn't). Skyrim? New engine (but it wasn't). Fallout 4? New engine (but it wasn't). They keep pushing that old tech further and further with updates and patches, but at some point there has to be diminishing returns. With id under their umbrella you would think they would make something similar to EA's Frostbite that they base all of their games going forward off of.

Yeah, at this point there's no chance in hell I'm believing "new engine" until I see it.

While I absolutely admire and respect their choice to keep building on their legacy engine rather than rebuilding their tools and pipeline, allowing them to focus their efforts and resources efficiently on other other parts of their projects, I'm a little bit surprised that they keep trying to make that claim when it each time it's been so blatantly obvious that it's not true. I mean, come on, your marketing guys must be talented to come up with a good spin on the choice, right? Especially given the fact that your customers know your products well enough to spot the lie a football field away.
