NFL 2018 Draft Thread

I realize it's not the government doing it, so it doesn't actually violate the first amendment, but this is just about the most un-American thing the NFL could do, and it's gross. I think my Sundays just freed up for the foreseeable future.

I've already been mostly out. Between the way they handled domestic abuse and head injuries. The gross response of the owners to Trump's attempt to start a civil war using the NFL and race only solidified that this was the right approach to the NFL. But this latest nonsense, capitulating completely to Trump and the racist fans means I'm completely out. f*ck the NFL. I don't want anything to do with it.

There are plenty of reasons not to watch football: the owners are cheap pricks, the players are all one good hit away from permanent brain damage, the catch rule, Pheeeeel Simms (CBS games only), you hate football, MMD doesn't put up the weekly post soon enough, etc. etc. All good reasons!

Saying you won't watch because you don't like the pregame show, no matter which side of today's decision you come down on, says you don't really enjoy football in the first place and want to virtue-signal your way out of blowing your Sundays (and Monday and Thursday nights) on the NFL.

It's OK not to watch. Really!

Yep.

I just don't understand why they're not up like first thing Wednesday mornings!

2.The Game Operations Manual will be revised to remove the requirement that all players be on the field for the anthem.

3. Personnel who choose not to stand for the anthem may stay in the locker room or in a similar location off the field until after the anthem has been performed.

I hope not a single player is seen during anthem time all year long.

Not as courageous as a No vote, but for a vote that otherwise unanimously passed, I appreciate Jed not falling in. And I appreciate his support of player expression.

Shad Khan, where were you?

Er what? I can definitely enjoy the SPORT of football AND be pissed they don't make good decisions on player conduct or that they support bad policies that feed into fascist idiots that think that flag "respect" is more important that the women on their cheerleading squad, etc, etc. I'll also try to remember the next time a player gets a high amount paycheck even though he smacks his wife around and I disagree I'm "virtue signalling", thanks!

Also in case you needed another reason the NFLPA did NOT support this decision either.

It is really becoming rather clear that it is nothing more than modern day mandingo fighting.

The easiest thing to do is not watch. They're concerned about ratings and sales. That's all they care about.

It's important to remember that most of the major sports supported literal segregation at one point. Now they don't. I can quit football until their ethics catch up with modernity. If they ever do.

I wonder how much the fine to the team is. And how many owners would have morals and just pay the fine without punishing the players.

Who is placated by this move, anyway? You can see the ire on one side here and I can bet Trump will go back to shouting "throw the sons of Female Doggoes out" when he starts seeing empty sidelines before the games.

The owners are the ones who voted this in so probably not.

Considering that only a few people ever kneeled I doubt teams are going to stay in the locker room. Money speaks and if you kneel, or stay in the locker room, good luck finding work.

The judge in Reuben Foster's case has dropped the charges of domestic abuse.

She has also reduced the weapons charge to a misdemeanor, a charge Foster will face in court in a couple weeks.

With no felony charges remaining, Foster is being allowed to return to the 49ers, which John Lynch says will happen tomorrow.

Had planned on doing the new thread tonight, but currently so disgusted with the NFL it may be a few days.

The Onion hitting the nail on the head again:

New NFL Policy Requires All Players To Honor Patriotic Spirit Of Subservience That American Flag Represents

Here’s the phone number to the NFL - ‭1 (212) 450-2000‬

Surprisingly it seems to work. I called them this morning to ask if they also agree with the President that protestors should be stripped of their citizenship.

Did they answer you? If so, what did they say?

Thanks for the number, by the way.

They did answer me. They forwarded me to someone’s voicemail. So I didn’t exactly have a discussion with Roger Goodell, but it’s not nothing.

It's appeasement to shut Trump up, fill seats and bring back eyeballs while not actually trying to stop players from sorta protesting, just not visibly so.

Favorite internet comment I've seen so far:

Players who can’t stand for the anthem because of massive brain injuries won’t be punished. Just ignored.

Brandon Marshall is signing a one year deal with Seattle that will net him a massive $2 mil if he hits the incentives.

Wow

I sure hope so

The Draw Play rules. Stick around for the comments, too.
