NFL 2018 Draft Thread

Last year Blake Bortles played better than Derek Carr.

Blake Bortles: he's a little better than a broken back!

We can talk about 2016 Bortles if you like.

Oh 2018 Bortles will be here soon enough to remind us.

Speaking of 2018, when are you going to start a training camp thread? The draft is long over!

I WILL START IT WHEN I'M DAMNED READY so like maybe tomorrow.

Yeah, don't, there's jack and sh*t to write about.

Hurry up! Gotta get in shape for the season!

Last year, you didn't get to it until May 25th. You're ahead of schedule!

You don't ever mention the "dead zone" though.

Too bad Hard Knocks is in Cleveland.

That pic is great! His smile is clearly "f*ck you Bradford and the nine mistakes before me!"

Yeah but like you said, Hard Knocks is rah-rah it's-gonna-be-great-this-year, All or Nothing is a documentary on how much you suck and how. I want a Browns All or Nothing season.

I feel like they'd need to rename it "All is Nothing" to be nihilistic enough to talk about the Browns.

Johnny Manziel has taken his talents from the Spring League showcase to the CFL. He just signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Also, because this is Johnny Manziel, he signed another deal... with BARSTOOL SPORTS to host a podcast show, "Comeback Szn". ENIX LOOK IT'S BARSTOOL.

Oh goodie Barstool.

Well, at least Manziel is Canada's problem now.

The hell with sports gambling, then Chiefs are getting into the craft beer market.

Chiefs filed two trademarks for a new beer that could come to Arrowhead

Beer? Blah, let's instead talk about how teams manage their salary cap!

Spoiler:

Seriously, it's a good article from Danny Kelly @ The Ringer about the ways teams are spending their cash either for the now or the future.

Man, it's going to be so great when the "building for the long term" 49ers win the NFC West over the "win now" Rams...

Nice little tidbit on the Raiders low-key recreating the "Over the Hill Gang".

In other Raiders news, they traded a 7th round pick for.... Christian Hackenberg?!?

The Jets are probably celebrating today.

The Hack will compete with EJ Manuel for the only 3rd QB competition in NFL history to be decided in a sudden death "first complete pass wins" fashion.

Reggie, wut r u doing?

It's a conditional 7th, meaning when he's cut (because he will be), I'm assuming the Jets get nothing.

Really good deal for the Jets either way.

Hunter Henry tore his ACL. The Chargers injury woes are starting early this year.

If the NFL starts throwing flags due to kneeling during the anthem I'm going to have a hard time following it this year.

https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/stat...

Per sources, one anthem idea being discussed: Leaving it up to home team on whether teams come out for the anthem; if teams do come out for the anthem, potential that teams could be assessed 15-yard penalties for kneeling.

I realize it's not the government doing it, so it doesn't actually violate the first amendment, but this is just about the most un-American thing the NFL could do, and it's gross. I think my Sundays just freed up for the foreseeable future.

Ironically this is the same argument the people who proposed this stupid thing are saying.

Here's what they decided to do:

Douche McDoucheyface wrote:

The policy adopted today was approved in concert with the NFL's ongoing commitment to local communities and our country -- one that is extraordinary in its scope, resources, and alignment with our players. We are dedicated to continuing our collaboration with players to advance the goals of justice and fairness in all corners of our society.

The efforts by many of our players sparked awareness and action around issues of social justice that must be addressed. The platform that we have created together is certainly unique in professional sports and quite likely in American business. We are honored to work with our players to drive progress.

It was unfortunate that on-field protests created a false perception among many that thousands of NFL players were unpatriotic. This is not and was never the case.

This season, all league and team personnel shall stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem. Personnel who choose not to stand for the anthem may stay in the locker room until after the anthem has been performed.

We believe today's decision will keep our focus on the game and the extraordinary athletes who play it -- and on our fans who enjoy it.

POLICY STATEMENT

The 32 member clubs of the National Football League have reaffirmed their strong commitment to work alongside our players to strengthen our communities and advance social justice. The unique platform that we have created is unprecedented in its scope, and will provide extraordinary resources in support of programs to promote positive social change in our communities.

The membership also strongly believes that:

1. All team and league personnel on the field shall stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem.

2.The Game Operations Manual will be revised to remove the requirement that all players be on the field for the anthem.

3. Personnel who choose not to stand for the anthem may stay in the locker room or in a similar location off the field until after the anthem has been performed.

4. A club will be fined by the League if its personnel are on the field and do not stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem.

5. Each club may develop its own work rules, consistent with the above principles, regarding its personnel who do not stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem.

6. The commissioner will impose appropriate discipline on league personnel who do not stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem.

There are plenty of reasons not to watch football: the owners are cheap pricks, the players are all one good hit away from permanent brain damage, the catch rule, Pheeeeel Simms (CBS games only), you hate football, MMD doesn't put up the weekly post soon enough, etc. etc. All good reasons!

Saying you won't watch because you don't like the pregame show, no matter which side of today's decision you come down on, says you don't really enjoy football in the first place and want to virtue-signal your way out of blowing your Sundays (and Monday and Thursday nights) on the NFL.

It's OK not to watch. Really!

I'm sitting for the anthem at Chiefs games, and any other NFL game as long as they have this rule in place. Let the NFL start fining fans.
