Android Games Catch-All

Does anyone ever have their Google play progress really backed up in the cloud? I have never successfully moved my progress from phone to phone or reloaded progress after reset. Google claims it's the app who has it and the app says Google has it. My system is setup for it, or at least I think it is. Help?

It varies from game to game - some will specifically say they're backing up to the cloud (Candy Crush, for example) - and those carry over fine. If they don't say it, I've rarely ever had data transfer over.

Downloaded Baldur's Gate 2 to try and give it a go on my phone, but while I can jack the text size way up everything else looks entirely too small. Does KOTOR play better?

Are there any other quality RPGs on Android that aren't too tied up in mobile design? I'm okay with the inherent limitations of mobile, but tire quickly if a lot of the game is around gacha card/power/character collecting. Hell, I tire of loot on most mobile games even though I love Diablo-like ARPGs.

arpg... Cat Quest

That looks pretty great! But, for me the best arpg on the platform is definitely Crashlands. My 2016 GOTY. Best inventory management and crafting system, great humor, beautiful art, delightful whimsy. I still play it occasionally 2 years later. Just buy it. I don't have any good suggestions for regular RPGs, other than maybe some of the SquareEnix ports. Maybe X-Com, if you're into that.

Crashlands felt more like a collectathon than an RPG to me. The story was lite but the collecting was intense. It was great for a plane ride but I burn out fast on those games.

PUBG is now out for all regions!

PUBG sounds just awful on mobile. Is it the exact same game?

I gave PUBG mobile a spin today and it's honestly very solid. In fact, it runs better on my s8 than it does on my PC. It auto-detected "medium" graphics on my phone which surprised me, considering that the s8 is pretty much top-of-the-line.

It looks like it's been built from the ground up by a separate developer. However, I was immediately familiar with it from my experience on PC. Nice little tweaks like being able to see an audio indicator for gunshots (if playing with no volume), and auto-loot are very welcome with the limited controls a phone offers. I also really liked the auto-sprint, as it freed up my fingers to do other things such as look behind me.

I found aiming to be ok. I prefer aiming with a touch-device than I do with a gamepad, however shooting was a bit problematic. You aim with your right thumb, but have to tap a "shoot" button which is right/middle of the screen. Thus you have to continue to "aim" by moving with your left thumb, while you are quick-tapping the fire button with your right.

I had a few moments where the game froze on me, but I think it was just lag. I had 200ms with a spotty wi-fi connection. Other times it ran very smoothly.

I went in expecting a dumpster fire, but I ended up loving it. My familiarity with the game on PC led to me taking 8th position, and I can't wait to play some more. And hell, it's FREE. Definitely worth a shot!

Edit: There are gyro controls! Hallelujah! Once I enabled those, I came 2nd twice in a row! Either I'm weirdly good on mobile, or everybody else is trash (likely the latter).

Hell yeah

huh, well you've made a believer out of me. I'll give it a spin.

I'm going to give the mobile version a spin. Just read that they apparently use newbie bots as server filler. I actually think that's a good idea and better for new players to get introduced into the game. Best part is they seem to be all wearing red shirts.

I really like the newbie bots. It made my first 2-3 games feel really rewarding, because I didn't know about them. It reduces queue times, and gives you a nice introduction to the game as you learn the controls. I think it's best that people aren't told explicitly.

Anyway, still playing, still loving it. Scored my second chicken dinner, and I assume there were far less bots this time because the competition was very fierce. I was lucky enough to get military base mostly to myself -- only having to kill 4 other players to come out fully-loaded. lvl 3 helmet, lvl 3 vest, 2 ARs (one with an 8x zoom. Loot box dropped about 500 meters from me, took out 2 more players with a 4x zoom. The box had a sniper rifle, which I stuck my silencer on.

The final circle was within military base, so I was able to sit on the outskirts and take potshots at people with my 8x. The final player was pushed out into the open by the circle, with me able to maintain highground behind a tree. He had a loot box to use as cover, but the moment he peaked out I was able to secure the win.

I was in the car playing so I had to turn off gyro controls. I asked my partner to park for the final 10, and she was cheering me along and holding her breath when it got tense.

Seriously loving this port so much.

I installed both Cat Quest and Crashlands, but they've both lost out to the Banner Saga. This is exactly what I'm looking for right now.

Fair do's, good game.

PUBg

OK, I played the desktop version exactly once. Did terrible. First guy I foudn shot me and I neded up in 89th place, or somethign. That was months ago.

I tried the Android game yesterday and again, got shot by apparently the only non-bot player besides me. 80th place.
Tried again, did better, 60th place.
Last night I played a duo with a friend. 6th!

Anyways, not sure if I like it yet. I should play the desktop one more, i think.

I tend to die in by the storms in BR games more than people. Too much weapon scavenging, not enough vehicle scavenging. I don't seem to learn my lesson.

Downloaded PubG. Will try tonight I guess.

How's everyone going with PUBG? I've been playing a lot, and am noticing far less bots. I'd estimate that 40% are still AI, but the rest are putting up fierce competition.

Also, Marvel Strike Force launched today. I've set up a separate thread for it and thought I'd notify everyone here

Edit: Another potentially good game to check out. Totalbiscuit seemed pretty keen on it via Twitter

Looks like a loose attempt at lane-combat, but with giant capital ships duking it out.

Installed PUBG a little while ago. I played a bunch of Rule of Survival, so it shouldn't take me too long to acclimate. Weird that I don't see a Google account login option, only Facebook. My account is Mixolyde, friend me up!

Let me put on my tin-foil hat for a moment...

I believe the reason there isn't a google log-in is because they are selling your details to advertisement companies. I believe I saw people talking about the weird user-agreement notice you "sign" on when you start the game.

I don't really mind. I don't have enough information to verify, but it's worth looking into if it's something that bothers you.

That makes sense. If the product is free, you are the product.

Also, I came in 2nd place with 8 kills in my first match, so the PUBG clone skills I learned paid off! I miss the sound sensor on the compass that Rules of Survival has.

Yay! I found a 7.62 gun I like, but I have no idea which one it is!

I don't want to rain on your parade, but the first match you play is always against bots. You know, maybe I did want to rain on your parade...but in the name of being informed, I promise.

Well my second match I came in first place, and in my second 4-man game me and on other person won. I think I am doing ok.

Friend me up!

I'm too afraid to download it. I already play too much PUBG on my PC. If it's in my pocket 24/7 I don't know if I'd ever get anything done.

Just wanted to share what's been keeping me busy lately.

The R-Type port is REALLY good! Clever touch controls, but it also allows you to connect a bluetooth controller. I had this in my drawer for use with my RetroPi, but I think it'll be going in my pocket along with my phone for a while now

Edit: Having a kickstand on my phone case is the best thing since cup holders.

This War of Mine 75% off on Android. If I didn't already have on Steam and PS4 I'd pick it up.

Oh, nice. I might have to pick that up. I've been playing Wayward Souls recently which is really hard but also supports bluetooth controllers.

I'm really hoping that Android gets an Oddmar port.

Hearing rumors that the Steam Controller may support Android devices via Bluetooth soon.

That feature would probably get me to finally buy one.

Tried Eternium this weekend on a whim, and I'm finding it a decent ARPG with good, if almost automatic touch controls. Pretty easy so far, but lots of expected mechanics: plenty of loot, socketed weapons/armor, some IAP (but no "energy" type nonsense). Worth a look.

Tried this out this weekend myself. Pretty fun, and yes, minor IAP stuff. It's nice that it doesn't gate you from playing the game. I think I'll keep going for a few chapters and see where it goes.

Does anyone that still plays this have a friend code to share? Free gems for both of us I think, if I enter it in the next day or so.
