Conan Exiles - Crush Your Enemies, See them driven before you!

Went ahead and got the PS4 version. A quick question about food early game, aside from bugs berries and eggs I understand you need to get meat and cook it on a fire, but I managed to kill two rabbits, two antelopes, and like three crocs and none of them dropped any meat. Am I missing something here?

Early game you have to use your hatchet on the things you kill to get meat.

Well crap. Thanks.

Oh and I built a small planter and put seeds and a compost pile in it, but nothing happened so that must not be right

The compost item needs to be placed like other buildables. It's literally a box that allows you to have your sh*t in it

You need a grinder for bonemeal and rotted food and plant fiber. That generates your compost that you put into your planters.

As for thralls and purges...

Thralls(slaves) are gathered by knocking out NPCs with a truncheon. You then use a rope on the knocked out body and drag it back to your camp. There it will lay till it dies or you put it to work in a wheel of pain (ala Conan movie) to break it down. After a set time when it's will is broken it becomes yours to do with as you see fit.

There's thralls of all types. You have your fighters, but you also have specialist. Essentially for every crafting station there's a thrall available to man it for you. These help by increasing the speed you craft as well sometimes giving you higher tier items to build

There's different tiers so higher the tier the better they are. 1-3 and then there's named NPCs. Named NPCs take FOREVER in a wheel of pain even with a t3 taskmaster. I have a couple that looks like they're going to take 36 hours to complete.

There's 2 sizes of wheel of pains. Small which accept only one thrall and the large one which accepts 3 at a time. These are relatively large and require flat surfaces to place so plan accordingly.

Purges is set on a personal timer that you can see at the bottom of the screen when you pull up your inventory. When it fills up your place will be invaded by roaming NPC armies that will start attacking your settlement and have to be killed off. So you can't keep a open area floor plan forever with your buildings or the first thing they'll start attacking is your valuable stations.

Another note on compost. So i have fish and shellfish traps setup. A good way to make sure you have the bad food to go into compost pile is to cook the low tier fish for the ichor it provides and then take the cooked ones and place them into the compost to degenerate.

I just put the unsavory ones right into the compost pile and they go bad very quickly.

So the server can fill up and you simply, cant play your character? I guess this is just not a system I would expect to deal with in a PS4 game in this day and age.

Cook those for ichor! Then let them go bad

As an aside, I learned the second level of thrall taking but can’t figure out how to make an iron truncheon. Any ideas?

You have to craft a torturer worktable which is only available after making the t2 wheel of pain.

What a pain in the dick. That’s the one thing I wish they would kind of illustrate when choosing crafting options. Maybe a flowchart for this mess.

On the screen where you choose what crafting skills to get, you can see exactly where you craft each item. Its written in cursive beneath each item.

Confused me at first as well how to craft certain items, but its pretty easy to find out after this.
Bear in mind though, that there are hidden recipes, mostly in the food area.

I'm very interested in this. I have a question for those who have the game.

I skimmed through the first couple of hours of a couple of Let's Play series last night, and based on that, the crafting, survival element looks awesome. I'm wondering, though, are there other elements to the game like story, quests, NPCs? I wasn't sure if the entire game is the crafting/base building, or you gradually get introduced to other layers of the game as you level up and explore.

I’d say it’s light on story and npcs and there really aren’t quests, per se. There are story elements and a few npcs that are around for exposition purposes or to teach religions and the like.

They did an update this morning. Server is invalid after the auto update :/

I only found one NPC that hasn't attacked me and he just told me to do drugs (Yellow Lotus).

Thanks for the answers, all!

Rebooted and updated.

There's also dungeons that require multiple people to tackle to make it through. Lot of the high end and specialized weapon/armor are found in there. Some can be sneaked in and out with them while others you have to defeat the boss at the end.

There’s also a priest for all the religions with the yog priest the easiest to find near starting river and the shattered bridge.

There’s a werewolf that wanders the northwest desert near the oasis and one guy that wanders the southern shore of the starting river.

A word of caution - if you see a green glowy wall that looks kinda like the PUBG circle, don't try to cross it. You'll lose all your stuff.

Did you not listen to Conan when he chopped you down off the cross?

What kind of legs does this game have? The reason is that it was stated that some of the dungeons require a group to complete. As goodjers are notorious for picking up a game for a very short amount of time until the next new and shiny comes out, I'm concerned with being left alone in a vast world of stuff.

I am going under the assumption that a character is locked to the server I play on and I can't carry the character over to different servers. I really like the PvE aspect, don't have much interest in PvP but this does seem like it could be a lot of fun to play with you guys.

Probably depends on what you want - a mad rush to max level and dungeon running will be over soon. But if you are interested in exploring the world, and building and crafting, the game will probably last you a long time.

Had a nasty bug where I was knocked off a cliff during a fight and died. Then I ran back naked to get all my stuff, but fell off the same cliff while trying to scale down it. By the time I made it all the way there again the first body had disappeared along with all of my gear. Sucks because I had literally just made a full suit of medium armor and some nice iron weapons. It’s not really a bid deal because I have plenty of mats to make everything again, just annoying. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again.

I rented the server for 6 months. Even if i'm not full tilt with this it's something i want to keep coming back to when other games grab my attention so odds are good i'll do it again after that.

On the server pvp is only activated on the weekends between 11am-5pm EST. My idea was that if enough people were on we could have some kind of contests and i also suspect that some of the journey milestones are pvp oriented.

Unlocking the milestones are worth a LOT of xp and the best way to level up.

So should we pick a new site for our clan fortress, or build up Ranalin's fort? I'm just now able to make steel bars in bulk after looting the brimstone cave last night, but I'm kind of loathe to continue building out my barebones house if we're going to need to mount a serious defense.

We can do either. If you need a place to find and train thrills, I have a spot in the oasis in the northwest edge of the map that has facilities you can use. I’m still building out but it’ll be done soon enough.

I've been farming demons blood to craft a map room (120/200), and while waiting for the rocknose king to respawn been gathering thralls again.

With the creation of the guild it reset the timer. It also makes it a random location on where we would be attacked. It will show on the map where it will take place and it could be my place or it could be any 4 walls that's been built since.

I recommend everyone at least put walls around their crafting/storage area so it's not out in the open. Good news is that the Purge level has barely budged so we're not close to an attack.

There's also ways to reinforce those walls. Some relatively simple while others are super expensive but super strong.

I picked my place intentionally because there's only one way in based on the terrain. Players can easily get in, but since we're not having to worry about that i can just worry about the terrain approach.

My religious temples are totally exposed, but i'm not overly worried about them.

Next time we’re on, I need to make a run out there and get an invite from you. My purge meter is dangerously close at the moment too. I could take it and I’ve got most of my stuff behind t2 walls.
