Car lovers?

Very nice! I like the color and should be a good upgrade from the Z. Mind saying how much you ended up paying?

New (used) car bought sight unseen after getting an inspection, then having it shipped to me from a couple of states away. Had my 350Z since late 2002. Time to finally move on after 165,000 miles.

2016 Audi S4 with 19K miles. Pretty happy with it's condition. Just like the inspection said. A minor dent in the driver side rear door on the bottom, some curb rash on one wheel, and some minor scuffs that look like I can buff them out.

I ended up with this one because it was one of the only once I could find with both the electronic limited slip and adaptive suspension in this year.

Nice upgrade!

$36K. New sticker was $59K+.

I could kick myself, there's almost an identical car (minus adaptive suspension), a year older with 15K more miles closer to me that I'd looked at. Between the time I started lining up the inspection on mine and today, the other one one dropped $1500, to where it's $30K. It has a wreck on its carfax, but it looked well repaired. If I hadn't already committed to the one I got, the price difference would have made me flip I believe, and I'd have saved some money.

Oh well, got more warranty and about half the miles. Coulda, shoulda, woulda...

I really like that color.

Hope the Z gets a good home. I always have trouble letting old cars go.

The Z is nearly the same color (Daytona Blue). I really didn't intend to just buy the same color again. I seriously looked at both white and red cars, but ended up with this color again.

Not upset. I do love Audi Sepang blue, and it stands out over the typical gray/white/black cars that dominate the market these days.

Got to do a bit of maintenance on the Z and get it up for sale. Somebody hit me in the parking lot at the and of last year, and the insurance company paid $2500 on the dent (which I haven't repaired). So I really don't have to get that much out of it. Hope it does find a good owner. It's been a good car.

I'm glad The Grand Tour ditched The American in season 2. He was very annoying.

Yeah. Overall, I feel that season 2 was much stronger.

I almost had an incident with my car that could have been on either the mayhem insurance commercial, or the other one where they walk through a museum showing all the weird things their insurance company had covered.

My new (to me) car posted above was minding its business, taking a nap in the garage on the night of July 4, when suddenly three storage boxes fall from the ceiling landing directly in front of the front bumper, going as far as to scuff it up a bit as they fell. I walk out to discover said boxes around 11PM. I didn't hear them fall, probably due to the fireworks.

Took me a few minutes to CSI what happened: It seems that some of the boxes stored up in the attic were on top of one of the plastic shipping bins/totes that I've had forever. Had them so long that the plastic had broken down and become brittle enough to collapse on one side and dump the other boxes out the open access hole in the attic, right down 14' to give my front bumper a glancing blow.

(One of the boxes was my old Xbox 360 racing wheel :))

Luckily, the scuff I did find buffed out. Looking at the hole in the attic in relation to where I had parked, I still don't know how the boxes didn't land partially on the hood. Things could have been much, much worse.

My daughter is about to turn 16. We bought her an older car, but need to put about $3,000 more into. I really don't want to put that much into it, so I am considering giving her my car and buying something new.

Thee wife told me to get a truck, but I don't really want one and hardly need one. The cars that I really want I ca't afford right now (Sporty wagons). So, I'm looking to compromise. Any thoughts?

2019 Mazda MX-5

I'd love it, but it still needs to be semi-practical.

Compromise between a truck and a sport wagon? Obviously there can be only one answer...

I was going to say that a ute would be the perfect solution. Time to move to Australia.

TDI Jetta Sportwagon. They are coming back on the market after the fix, and you can get a lot of car for not a lot of money. The diesel engine means pretty decent towing ability for a car, they get insane fuel economy, and up through 2014 the diesel was the top trim level. Lots of the bought back cars are one owner, pretty low mileage, and are being offered as CPO.

Also NA Miata

My wife's new-to-her Acura suffered similar damage a few weeks ago after the car ahead of her on the highway drove over a piece of plywood (I think it was plywood) , flinging it into the air and cracking the paint on her front bumper. Could have been way, way worse (like dangerously so) had it gotten a little more air.

I loved my TDI wagon pre buyout, I am seriously considering getting another one when my lease is up next year.
You can also still get a proper transmission in those wagons too

I was looking at the Sportwagen. Wish they brought the Sportwagen R to the US.

Yeah, at least I wasn't at risk. Glad she was OK.

Price range? Last gen Volvo V60's aren't too bad in price if you're wanting a kind of sporty wagon.

There are always the various Subaru wagons as well.

So with all the cars to choose from, that's tough....my recommendation is to get a drone and fly it over a Carmax. Attach a 4 inch diameter rock with to the drone and drop it from above 250 feet. Whatever car it hits will be the car for you....PLUS a discount due to damage by natural-causes.

My budget is going to be <$30,000. Hyundai is finally putting out a proper performance version of the Veloster soon. It'll probably be out of my price range, though.

I can't explain it, but I really like the styling of the new Ford Transit Connect. Do they make a performance version of that?

My wife has always hated the GTI. I would love one.

I believe the Transit connect is focus based, so someone should be able to swap RS parts in for a price, but probably not a price under $30,000. That would make a really cool sleeper thought.

Used Audi S3

Golf R with a fancier brand name.

Unfortunately, less practical.

After buying my S4, I still kind of wish I'd have gone S3 or Golf R. I just like smaller cars.

As I was saying above, though, you're price range could get you a not-too-used Volvo V60, maybe even a T6 if you want a more sporty version.

If you're going less practical, one of the cars I cross shopped in the mid-20's to low 30's is the BMW M235i's. Those seem to be a ton of fun. Or just a regular 2 series for even less.

Madness!

Still can't go wrong for <30k with a Focus ST! I just 100k on mine!

I was actually looking at a used Fiesta ST for ~$15,000

I loved my Focus ST! That car was just so much fun to drive. Then I moved to Colorado and quickly realized it wasn't the best tool for the job out here - not great off pavement - so with some reluctance I traded it in for a Raptor.

In case anyone was curious, this was the exact moment when I realized the ST just wasn't gonna cut it.

Yup, I realize how dumb it was to even attempt that
