Solo: A Star Wars Story | Tour The Millennium Falcon with Donald Glover

Yeah, I'm getting excited to see this.

I haven't given the slightest of sh*ts about anything Star Wars since the prequels, but I'll watch literally anything with Donald Glover in.

A better combination of Star Wars and Ron Howard:

Solo: A Star Wars Story | "190 Years Old" Clip

I’m actually pretty excited about this. Donald Glover and Woody Harrelson are joys to watch and I enjoy everything Ron Howard does.

Just give him a damn Lando movie already!

"Han Meets Lando" Clip

"Holochess" Clip

Wasn't that the exact same move R2 did against Chewie in ANH?

Edit: Yup, seems to be the exact same move with the exact same layout of pieces.

I wonder if Chewie is going to rip Woody Harrelson's arm out of its socket.

Two of my friends went to the Global opening for Solo tonight I'll post their impressions once they post them.

I suppose at this point these clips could be considered spoilers so don't watch if you want to be suprised by everything.

I’ve been mostly on blackout (because I’m going to see it anyhow), but I’ve got my ticket for next Wednesday! I’m excited!

A Spoiler-free Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story

Well I can't say i'm excited about the movie but I am interested. I'll be there. Early reviews seem to be mixed to positive but it certainly doesn't seem to be a train wreck the development alluded to.

Finally got around to seeing it this afternoon and really enjoyed it. I'm not sure what all the haters (and there seem to be a lot of them) are on about.

The thing I love most about it is that it is just plain fun. It's been a long time since I've watched a Star Wars story that didn't have some kind of melodramatic undercurrent. Hell, maybe all of them have. Not this one though. I mean of course there's bad guys and betrayals, but above all it's just a fun romp.

Recommended! Quite a few scenes that benefit from a large format screen, if you can catch it before the next Big Thing has arrived.

Planning to go Monday to a "Crybaby Matinee" where newborns are welcome.

Saw it yesterday and felt much the same as BadKen. Was just a fun Star Wars romp, which was all I was looking for. I thought Ehrenreich took on an impossible task trying to channel Harrison's Ford's character without turning it into a caricature and totally delivered. (And Donald Glover flat out killed it as Lando.)

It's funny, I feel like most criticism I've seen of the movie is focused on its box office take and not its merits, which is unfortunate. I've seen only very mild nitpicks of its content, while all noting it's generally well-made and very fun summer movie.

BTW...

Called it. Not Woody Harrelson, but Chewie did rip someone's arms off. And Han made a snarky remark, too. :D

I don't remember where I read this, but it's true: the real hero of Solo is Ron Howard. He took a flailing production and turned out a ripping fun summer good time movie.

Finally got around to seeing it today. I don't know why people are ripping on Alden's acting in a series marked by sup-par acting. He did fine, everybody was fine and I like the relatively low-fi plot. It felt very old school, I liked it.

Fixed it for you..

Going to see it tonight. Marcus theaters as $5 Tuesdays, plus no convenience fees through Fandango, plus Paypal gave me a coupon for $3 off when buying tickets through Fandango, so paid $2 for my ticket

It is well worth $2

It was really good for $2 I actually enjoyed it more than I was expecting. Up until yesterday, it was the only Star Wars movie I had not seen in theaters.

I finally saw it earlier this week and enjoyed it overall. Nothing spectacular but it also wasn't a trainwreck. Looks like Disney is canceling or putting on hold everything except for Ep 9. Kind of agree, it feels like they have some things that still need figuring out.

Disney/Lucasfilm should abandon all “prequel” or “character origins” and just make original stories.

Imagine this film with all new characters, with our heroes running from The First Order, and teasing a new and interesting world of crime syndicates and this movie would clean up.

Oh yeah. The heist movie aspects of Solo are outstanding. Could be the familiar characters are more of a distraction.

Though I must say it was a pleasure to watch Donald Glover playing Lando.

I agree. There was a review on... MovieWeb? Calling Solo the best of the new Star Wars movies and I was baffled.

I enjoyed it, I'd describe it as "fine", but there also nothing special about it. It was like watching a checklist unfold in real-time.

"Well, it's a movie about Han Solo, so we need... let's see. We'll explain his name. And then find his buddy. And then show how he gets his iconic blaster. And then his ship. And finally we'll explain a running gag from the original trilogy. Plus, lets found the Rebel Alliance and throw in a cameo right there at the end."

That overstuffed aspect of it is what felt the most forced. It would be like if the original trilogy gave Luke his lightsaber, metal hand, found out Leia was his sister, found out Vader was his father, became a Jedi Master, blew up both Deathstars, AND fought Vader and Palpatine over the course of a single film instead of three. I would have preferred they pick one interesting detail about Han, such as the heist, and focused everything on that instead of spreading themselves so thin.

Like, really? Every single item about the character unfolded over the span of what is essentially a single mission? The story just isn't fleshed out and seems like a wasted opportunity in that regard.

I think that depends on how the characters (especially the women) are treated. You're going to add Thandie Newton in a cameo and then fridge her on an ICE PLANET?

Done right, they would have been the best parts, if they weren't just crammed in there. A Lando movie? Sign me up. Enfys Nest? Yes please.

Qi'ra seems less likely to be able to carry a film spinoff, but I think mostly because out of all the characters she got the least to do anything, in terms of her character.

It's disappointing they're using this as a reason to give up on spinoffs/expanding the story, because I liked Rogue One specifically because it was a new story with (mostly) new characters. And it tackled *one* concept, and did it well.
