Interesting Kickstarter Catch-All

No way I'd back a game with such minimal play footage. I have no idea what it will even be, or that it will even be.

All he's got is a few static screens, really.

There's a demo so you can try it for yourself.

oh yeah I meant to link to the demo in the previous page. woops!

It's a 2D 'subnatica style' / exploration game / visual novel played entirely from a pastel coloured sonar screen with some puzzle and adventure game elements.

So...it's probably not for everyone

Also there's an accompanying art book which - if he hits the first of his stretch goals - will incorporate some sort of cool cypher puzzle tied into the game. Which would be neato.

*Oh and if it helps, the developer just announced that one of the guest writers for In Other Waters is Cash DeCuir, former lead writer for Failbetter Games (Sunless Sea : Zubmariner)

So it is Scythe the video game? That is interesting.

Edit: And backed.

Man, Iove the art of Scythe, but not the game, and I'm not into RTS games either. This is a great idea for those who do, though.

I'd kill for a Mercenaries-style sandbox game in this setting.

The Stonemaier update about it said it definitely isn't "Scythe the video game" but rather a different game based on Rozalski's alternate world (as also seen in Scythe).

I really like KINGArt but their last game, The Dwarves, played very poorly. I’m skeptical they can pull this off given how bad that felt. I’m a little annoyed that they’re making this instead of finishing The Book if Unwritten Tales series but I’d love to design a game around that art too.

A few folks from our Chicago friends (including Aaron/ImAaronJ, who was on the podcast recently) just launched their kickstarter for Earworm, a party game built around vocalizing well-known songs. I've had a chance to try/test it a couple times, and it's fun!

Yes and you can vote for the remaining songs that will be in the game.

A fellow over on the GameMaker's Toolkit Discord shared his little indie project, Blightmare. It looks absolutely cozy and charming. They currently have some clips of their Prototype.

Friend of the show, and Pandemic: Legacy co-creator, Rob Daviau, has just launched his Kickstarter for the remake of Fireball Island:

Steamforged Games launched their Kickstarter for GodTear today. Backers in the first 24 hours get a free 5th Champion, and it's already doubled its funding goal. I got in on the Early Access program, so I've been playing with the add-on Champions for a couple of months already, it's shaping up to be a really good, fast 2 player game, kind of a gateway from board games into war games.

As a big fan of solo games in general, this caught my eye...

This new trend of 24-hour exclusives is even more obnoxious than the CMON method.

In like FLYNN!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Pyxi.

Sometimes it freaks me out how similar our tastes are.

Unbroken is available from the designer to play on Tabletop Simulator as well as the print and play version. A lot of Kickstarter games have been doing this lately, either on TTS or Tabletopia.

I played it on TTS last night and enjoyed it. Won by the skin of my teeth, probably thanks to misreading a couple rules. I think you'll start to learn the encounters and monsters after a while, but that will only increase the strategizing and measured risks that you can take. Will probably back this one.

I keep meaning to take a proper look at TTS, this might just give me the excuse!

A couple of the stretch goals include blank cards and custom card templates for printing your own monsters, encounters, etc, which seems like it might hold a lot of scope for future expansion (beyond official expansion packs, etc)

Been giving that a try in TTS this evening .... pretty good! I can see it getting quite addictive.

Anyone else seen the RPG party game from Vincent Baker (Creator of Apocalypse World, Dogs in the Vineyard)?

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...

A party game for roleplayers and non-roleplayers. Fight with your friends, fall in love with your enemies, and seize the crown!

This might get me to open up the wallet. I like games that slyly introduce board gamers to role-playing concepts.

I heard only good things from people playing the beta version at our local RPG con in January. (But didn't get to play it myself).

I was at a panel over the weekend at the Portland Gamestorm (convention) about Kickstarter. This point was brought up and one of the panelists said that projects that don't hit ~30% of their funding goal in the first 2 days overwhelmingly fail. Those numbers aren't an exact quote but that was the sentiment.

The suggestion was to make the early exclusive a cosmetic trophy though, not a major gameplay element.

Speaking of CMON, their new Zombicide Kickstarter is live. I'm not into it, but I figured some may be.

Cosmetic exclusives are always the way to go, people who don't get in on the beginning feel like they are being punished, rather than feeling like those who got there early are rewarded. At least with this KS, Steamforged are using social media goals and backer number growth to keep the free add-on running. After the first 24-hour period ended, they extended it for 24 more hours if they added 100 backers. Then it was adding 50 Likes on Facebook posts, I think the current one is Shares on Facebook. So far, every backer has gotten the benefit of the FOMO-based bonus, so it's working well.

Very, very sold.

Myst 25th Anniversary Collection Kickstarter

Yup, same here.
Friend of mine even went for the 250$ tier (but I have kids so no).
