Time to turn on 2 factor.

A thousand times this.

Any game that doesn't offer 2 factor gets under my skin, like GTA Online. I've had that account hacked by russian dudes at least 4 times. Sometimes selling my in game cars and crap. Glad Fortnite has it.

While having bounced off of PUBG pretty hard a few months back, my kids convinced me to install this today and we played in duos for a few hours with me on PC and them on XBox. Other than me sucking pretty bad, it was actually a lot of fun for us to play together as a team.

And so now, my kids are begging me to buy the Save the World access. I've looked around a bit but other than "some time in 2018" there's really no update on when it will be released for free. So for those of you that actually own STW - does it feel pretty complete? In other words, does it seem like they're close to release, or does it seem like it won't be until towards the end of the year?

I'm trying to determine if it's worth it to plunk down the cash at this point or if I should wait it out - especially since I'd need to buy two licenses.

Also - does the price ever go on sale?

It’s hard to tell how close StW is to going F2P, honestly. They’re still experimenting with fairly fundamental mechanics (e.g., how stamina/energy works) so I’d be surprised if they switched to F2P in the next couple of months. But I’m not a good judge of this stuff so I’ve probably somehow jinxed everyone.

It has gone on 50% sale a few times since it released to Early Access last July. I don’t know if there’s a pattern to when this happens. There is also the possibility that someone you know, IRL or on GWJ, has a spare friend code or two. I do not or I’d be happy to share.

StW is grindy and repetitive in lots of ways, but there's enough variation in mission types and enemies that I kept going back to it for months. As a plain shooter, I don't find it incredibly great, but, when you add in all the aspects of building around your base and particularly in planning defenses and laying down traps, it's something that felt different to me every mission. I loved it, and spent a number of months playing it nightly. Easily my GOTY for 2017, and that's purely for the PvE; I never liked Battle Royale games, and that mode did nothing for me.

I think Save the World is a fun, innovative mix of third-person shooting with a whole bunch of intriguing tower defense-ish defense-building aspects. No clue if it's going to go F2P anytime soon, but I really thought it was a solid, great game. Throw in some patently hilarious voice work from Ashly Burch as your robot narrator/guide, and I got loads of pure amusement out of it.

Actually - if any of you GWJers have spare keys, I'd be more than happy to trade for a steam key or two. I have a bunch of spare steam keys for various games.

I can +1 everything that MilkmanDan said as Mrs. Abu and I have spent hours with him in StW. It's a lot of fun without being too stressful, and the building and planning is great, especially when the attack starts and you the mobs find that ramp you missed...

We would prolly still be playing if we didn't get sucked into an Elder Scrolls Online black hole during the most recent free play weekend.

I have one you can have, no trade necessary. I gave mine away months ago, but one has gone unclaimed. I'll DM it to you when I get back to my hotel tonight.

Edit: Sent.

You rock!!!! I PM'ed you as well. I'll be a responsible adult and link this one to my kids' account and not mine

That leaves one more key needed - if anyone has another spare out there and would like to trade for a steam game or two, let me know!

Well, the BR version of this is not doing anything for me. Too much hopping and the building mechanic makes the game a lot more twitch than tactical. Might try the STW side, but... I was expecting to like it more, I think.

Without having played the BR mode, but having watched plenty of it, this lines up with the reason I'm not super hot for it. But I appreciate that diff'rent strokes, etc.

The game has mass appeal that has hooked kids. I watched my oldest's friend, who is eight, bunny hop all over the place. I chided him for it, but he's only doing what works.

I find the game fun but repetitive. It's fun, it's free, I'll play it some more then move on. No complaints.

I know the mainstream player base would probably hurt it, but the game needs way more grenade launchers.
50 Junkrats a round and I'm back in!

There is currently an explosive only category in rotation that is nothing but grenade launchers and rockets.

I would argue the building part makes it more tactical, but that makes 3rd person required and the subpar gun play makes it less fun for me than other BR games.

Unless you're playing a competitive shooter these days there's going to be hopping. Just part of the FPS life.

I assume since you all don't play much that you didn't know that they actually placed some rules on the jumping so that if you try to rapidly jump in succession each jump loses more and more elevation until you're stuck to the ground. I believe being on the ground for a second or two resets it but that was something they added to try and tone down the 'hop fights'. Still happens, but there's some rules against it at least.

I'm really enjoying that mode. It's very satisfying to send 3-4 rockets followed by a guided rocket at someone's shack. I'm going to miss it when it's gone; I've gotten 2 solo wins and 4 squad wins from it so far.

Oh, nice. I haven't played in a week. I do like the shuffling if modes. The sniper one was fun, but mostly cause I'm decent with xbow.

Ranalin, competitive shooters are my FPS background; I was part of a top three CTF team in the Delta Force series for years. So I'm not really on the Overwatch side of things (although I do find that more fun than most of the others).

Sorry didn't mean competitive because almost everything is competitive these days, but tactical or sim shooters like ARMA and the like that strive for realism is the only place you'll find the lack of bunny hopping.

Pretty much most others since the popularity of CoD started growing have bunny hopping or dolphin diving as part the players experience. Depending on a game's physics determines just how effective or prevalent it will be.

FYI LOVE DF back in the day. That was our goto shooter back when LAN parties were a thing.

I look forward to playing Fortnite with the GWJ community. I will send out invites tonight. I only play BR.

My account is stingrray. I mostly play on PC, but I am setup on Xbox too.

I installed this. Pretty fun, but I'm horrible at it. I've been playing the BR side of the game. Only PC. Don't quite get the building side of things yet.

I really need to just land in the middle of nowhere and practice building until I die in the storm.

I'm really enjoying the game, though. I bought the season 3 Battle pass and have earned enough vbucks to buy the Season 4 pass (assuming the same price).

I love the weekly challenges. They give extra incentive to try different weapons, strategies, locations and game modes (no surprise the sniper game mode cake out the week after a sniping challenge, same with explosives)

I do have a bunch of challenges to play with friends, so hit me up. I play exclusively BR on PC during the late evening Pacific Time.

I LOVE the BR in this. What I don’t love though, is the meta strategies. If you’re not watching VODs to learn about the best building tips and best guns after a balance update, then you’re going to be at a heavy disadvantage.

I guess that’s probably true of any competitive shooter. I would just rather play than watch VODs.

I mostly play ps4 but have it on Xbox as well. Is there a discord set up for this one?

Apologies in advance for arriving late to the party and asking something which had already been answered elsewhere.

Easy to do, but I don't know that we really have the numbers to make it useful.

Why would you need a Discord to play on those platforms? I'm not familiar with Discord, but I thought it was just another voice client.

It’s a voice client that bridges the platforms though. I don’t think Fortnite’s voice is cross-platform in StW, for instance, so I’m not sure if it is for BR.
