Goojers with job opportunities

There's an opening on my team for a Senior SysAdmin in our Austin, TX office. The role would be primarily dealing with Office 365, Active Directory, DNS, and Identity Management. Lots of project work, some incident and escalation response. PM me if you're interested in details.

Elastic is hiring engineers and others of all stripes, but the most relevant to me is a new UI position on my team:

https://www.elastic.co/about/careers...

TLDR is: React ecosystem, single page apps, design sense and/or a particular area of interest (e.g. a11y, security) a plus. Distributed company so the opportunity to work from anywhere. Offices in some major cities if you'd rather, though. Traditionally under-represented demographics especially encouraged to apply. PM me if interested.

My company, Next Century, is hiring. We are mostly a defense contractor but we also do awesome stuff like this (my project). We make solutions that save lives (seriously) and the project linked is just one example of that. We're based in Jessup, MD.

Here's the link to the careers page if you'd like to browse the current openings. Most positions fall in the lines of general software development and, occasionally IT. Clearances aren't required but they are quite helpful.

If you are interested, PM me. The best way to get your foot in the door is via referral.

Are you really good at Postgres? Want to work on teaching cars how to drive? I'm looking for a Sr. Data Engineer in Seattle. Job description here:

We're growing fast! We're also looking for engineers who are well-versed in the Ruby/Rails stack. See more openings at:

Got two new business development positions opening up. A senior level one for OEM in Detroit and an Oil and Gas one from your home office.

PM me if you are interested in details... a background in plastics is probably a big selling point here, but good relationships in either market is probably more important.

And just like that, they shut down my team, laid us all off, and everything I’ve worked on for the past four years goes down the drain.

Anyone hiring for an electrical engineer in the Boston area? I specialize DC-DC conversion, RF and digital design and wireless power delivery, but have experience with various programming languages and I’m a quick learner.

I'm sorry to hear that, Doubting.
If I hear of anything at MIT, I'll be sure to let you know, and I can always provide a referral.

Edit: Doubting: Electrical Safety Engineer, Environment, Health and Safety (EHS)
You can find pay ranges here. That job is level Q

That position is outside of my expertise (I ran the safety committee for a few years on my last job, and worked closely with EHS on things like improving ergonomics and implementing BBS program, but the electrical engineering skills they want I'd have to learn on the job.)

Thanks, though.

On behalf of my new wife, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any opportunities for an accountant in the greater NYC area. She is starting a serious search for a new job, and I promised I would tap whatever resources I could on her behalf. We would be most appreciative.

Is that like No Irish Need Apply?

Texans are welcome to apply! They just have to be willing to move out of Texas for a bit.

Hey all, not sure where to post this but this feels like a good place.
My Sister in Law started her own business in Miami and I'm tyring to to find a place in the forum to make some noise. She moved there a couple of years ago and in like some cases, necessity was the mother of invention.

I present, The Real Tortilla; authentic mexican (not tex-mex) maize tortillas!!

They're delivering city-wide, are looking into state-wide later this year. Any Floridans interested in authentic tortillas, here you go.

She's going for retail (residential) and wholesale (restaurants) that might be interested.

Promise this is my first and only shout-out and only because this thread is work related.

If she can ever ship to MN I would be interested

I wish I still lived there but I'll share with those who still live there.

So, kicked out yesterday from Kroger after 8 years.

I'm taking a week to re-sort myself. Fix up the depression den that's supposed to be my living space, then figure out what to look for. Preference for the greater Cincinnati/Tri-state area or remote allowable positions.

8+ years of call center experience for both technical stuff (website, support, product information/health information, etc...) and customer service along with time with knowledge base creation and maintenance, acting as a liaison between the centers and corporate groups (primarily focused on our digital and app development teams), and most recently (for the last 3 years), QA work for the call center, grading calls, emails, etc... and creating new quality programs for different lines of business from scratch with a side of systems management for making sure agents across multiple centers were correctly being entered into those new systems and having calls recorded/etc... Also involved some work on calibrating other graders (generally supervisors, but also teammates and vendors' quality teams) with the quality programs for consistent scoring.

Sounds like you can go for a manager position at some of the call centers in Cinci, if that is what you want. US Bank, Fifth Third and others have big centers around town.

Not that you asked, but I’d advise against taking the week off.

When I got laid off last month, I hit the search like the first of an angry god. I got let go on Monday, applied to ten jobs by Tuesday, and had an interview by Friday. I had an offer before unemployment was approved.

I’m not saying this to brag, but as someone who’s been there. You won’t do yourself any favors sitting around stewing. Plenty of time for that in the days between when you accept an offer and when you start working. Also, the longer you’re unemployed, the more hiring managers are going to wonder why. You want to give every impression of being the highly motivated victim of a very shortsighted business decision without actually saying that.

Also also, if anyone else was laid off at the same time as you, they are now competitors. Let them take the week off while you’re getting your name out there.

So go. Get out there. You got this.

Listen to the gnome. Use this as an opportunity to get a promotion.

You got this.

Alternatively I knew my lay off was coming 2 months in advance and it's been a month since then I still haven't got anything. Plenty of interviews but no luck.

Haven't posted one of these in here for awhile. But since this is based out of the Meeple (in civilization) as opposed to the Castle (out past the boonies), it may be a more feasible opportunity. Anyway:

My whole company was put on 3 day weeks in Feb and now we are all kaput:/ I was gearing up to leave anyhow, but i'm still sad - i really liked the people in my team.
Anyhow, job hunting sucks. I have a weird CV and i'm not getting any traction which is quite frustrating. Start up experience is leaving me as a jack of all trades and senior level positions i'm applying for kind of assume you have a CV chock full of one thing and one thing only.

I feel your pain. I worked at my last job for about a year and a half before it tanked in February of last year due to issues beyond our control. I'm 40 years old and it was the first time in my life where I was truly happy to go to work every day and spent my weekends looking forward to Monday, instead of dreading it.

I, too, have sort of a jack-of-all trades sort of background in test, systems, and security engineering, up to and including both software and hardware, as well as some minor scripting/programming skills. I had a helluva time finding a job a year and a half ago, but I've been keeping my resume updated and about a month ago 7-15 different recruiters started emailing and calling just about every day... Didn't help me back then, but it's definitely encouraging that my breadth of experience isn't totally wasted.

Good luck and I hope you find something soon!

I have all the sympathy for job hunting. Traditionally, my job hunting experiences entail lots of sending out resumes and getting exactly zero calls, then eventually getting an interview through a former co-worker. This whole "I've had multiple interviews and an offer within a week" thing is completely foreign to me. I think it's a software developer thing, and since I'm a tester, I don't get that at all.

Anyway, in case anyone's looking, primarily in the Boston/Seattle area, my company's got some openings. We're also about to have a listing for a more junior mobile developer on my team, probably appropriate for someone with four or fewer years experience. There's a more senior position open on another team in my group, and that listing's on the site.

Yeah my experience so far has been almost 5 months of looking(2 months since final day of work) and only...5 in person interviews. Jobs I meet or exceed the requirements for and are perfect for me on paper don't even call and the in person interviews have been for stuff I can easily do but it's not a direct 1 to 1 on my experience so they always go with someone else.

Hey all,
MIT's Division of Student Life (where I work) has three job openings, currently, including one IT related position.
You can see the full job descriptions and apply here.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Ha! That would be awesome, but I'd be super intimidated by the students all the time since I only ever made it to an associate's degree, despite over 20 years in IT.

Also, moving from TX to MA would be...weird.

As hard as it would be to leave Houston, to leave Texas, if I needed to for work, I could... but missing the food would kill me.
