GWJ Conference Call Live, Postponed

Section:

Apologies, everyone. The Skype servers have completely gone south, leaving us all in the cold. We'll have to try it again next week, this time with a different platform and yet more testing. Curses!

This Saturday we'll be recording the GWJ Conference Call Live via Skypecast! We'll have a live text chat through Skype and we'll also be bringing on listeners to chat with us as part of the show. Skypecast is in beta, so I can't promise it won't be a complete train wreck, but I bet it'll be a fun one!

You will need a couple things if you plan to join the party at 7PM CST on Saturday night.

1) Download and install the latest Skype. It's a good idea to uninstall your previous version first. You'll need a Skype (free) account if you don't have one.

2) Test your Mic! In Skype, go to Tools - Audio Settings and see how your levels look. Uncheck "Let Skype adjust my audio settings" and make sure your audio output seems to spike in the middle or a bit more.

3) Keep an eye on this space for a link to the text chat once the show starts. To launch the Skypecast, simply click this link. Don't worry, you can be running both at once

That's it! If you can't make the show, we'll still be releasing the recording on Wednesday as usual so don't worry!

Back to Ustream?

For those who are in or about to be in, a partial solution for not being able to see who is in the room has been found.

Go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Connection and then check the box reading 'Display technical call info during call'

If you hover your mouse over the main Skypecast window you will be able to see a debug list of who is on....not pretty, but you can tell who is on, but not talking.

Hmm... yeah, it's obviously starting to let people in, but it's still just hanging for me.

Alternately, Chat -> start group chat shows a list of people a little nicer and maybe there is a chat option?

Well, I was on and then got booted for some reason. Any of the other people who were in experience this?

I'd really like to be there tonight but the girlfriend decided to have company over and not tell me until about 20 minutes before they got here. Hopefully there'll be another one and I'll make it then.

Let's see if we can get the first one to work, first.

I made it in at least, wasn't too sure what was going on
There's going to be a regroup at ~8:30 EST?

I'm still confused, and it's still giving me the "You need Skype 3.2 or later" error, even with the IE workaround.

this was the number skype used: ++9900111975605698768

give that a try in a few minutes, but that may not be valid as they may have to restart the whole sykpecast thingy again!

(Also is there a live chat up anywhere? Is that still happening?)

Ditto. Running Vista Home Ultimate edition it gives me the "cannot find the podcast" error if I'm not logged in first on Firefox, IE emulation, or IE 7 itself. If I am logged in it gives me the "you need skype 3.2 or later" error on all three.

My only thought is the workaround stated it was due to security reasons that it was disallowed on all but the Firefox IE tab. If in the meantime the IE tab addon added in those security measures it would still be blocking us.

GWJ Highlight Reel!

EDIT: Just saw Certis' reply. Sorry it didn't work out, fellas. =(

Bleh.

Lets hold it on TF2

Ah bollocks!! I'll have to stay up late next week too?!?!?!

Never mind, I'll have to keep my questions on hold till then.

I'll be reallyangrycod by then...

Drat! It was cool to hear everyone's voices to go with the names. It turns out to be good timing anyways. Danica's movie date just dropped his drink in her lap and I have to go pick her up. I'll see you next week.

It was so cool chatting with you guys, even briefly. I hope Skype can get their issues sorted out, because aside from the fact that it worked great yesterday and completely crapped out tonight ... it was great!

I was just thinking the same thing. GWJ TF2 Videocast! Now, who is what class? Shawn (Certis) as the Medic and Rob as the Sniper, I think, are good to start out...

That's too bad. Catch you guys next week then, I guess.

They need to make sure they discuss Demiurge's issues. "Voices" in his head? Really?

Anywho, have fun. Back to playing SOTSE for me.

So close but yet so far

I did manage to finally get on after many errors and non-connections (not doing any trouble shooting or anything, just trying to reconnect. It was at the tail end when the decision was made to bail. I did hear a lot of people talking, so was it actually working? Or was it just the handful of us that were able to make it on while the vast majority were still having issues?

Hey, who the hell ran off with my monkey wrench!

Today's topic, "Is Engineer credit to team?" What do you think, Heavy? Stay tuned for next week's topic, "Are you on fire?"

"Are you on fire?"

Mmmpph ffgpph!

too bad on the skypecast front. Next time hopefully I won't be leveling or buying booze during it.
