WAIT WHAT? Gloomhaven thread? Noted.
I know, right? Double noted.
Completed Black Barrow Lair last night with the family. For those that don't know my situation, I love the game so far, and drafted my family into playing, thus insuring I almost never get to play. (Our schedules don't always mesh well.) Our group is my 8yo daughter, 11yo son, wife and myself. I know the box says 14+... but they don't know my kiddos, and I sometimes alter the descriptions a tiny bit to be a little less... graphic.
Spoilers ahoy for Black Barrow Lair only ->
The boss was the worst part, and having four of us play brought him up to 40hp. We knew he'd go to open door "a" first, so we strategically put ourselves where we could hit him in his initial position or his first door. He still didn't open the door for something like 4 rounds, and during that time we poisoned him and wounded him. He got that door open but ate crag-fist shortly after that and expired. The rest was only so much mop-up.
I don't know where we're heading next, other than shopping. I'ma pick me up a helmet, I think.
Hi, me again, Spoilers for Inox Encampment ->
Well, the young age of my kiddos is finally coming back to bite me in the butt. I read ahead to what was behind door #1, and I admit that this would probably traumatize my kids a little bit. So I'm changing the story. They'll realize BEFORE they slaughter the entire tribe of Inox that this is a bad idea; and may flee for their lives instead. They'll get partial bonus XP and any XP they earned through cards. I just don't think they have the stomach for the way it is written. I don't intend to do this often... and if this level of issue continues to pop up I might just make this a solo campaign. :-\
We just got to retire our first character - my level 4 Brute. It was a bit bittersweet since I've been spending this time getting him equipment, choosing perks and unlocking cards. My wife is actually coming around on the game, so that is good. She's been playing a tinkerer. I'm not sure who I want to play next. The class I unlocked seems pretty crazy.
What class symbol?
Been printing and painting props!
I want those! All of those! Post Esty/bhchrist link to buy those ASAP!!!!!
What class symbol?

Im playing the upside-down-tri-force now. Its a very squishy class! Im about ready to be done with him tbh, but Im less than half way through my personal quest
Started our campaign the other day with a friend of mine. A couple of our other friends will probably drop in and out depending on schedules. I’m playing the Cragheart and he is doing the Mindthief. Took two tries to beat scenario 1 but now things are really starting to open up.
Just curious: Did anybody else not necessarily know about the blessing? I saw the bit that said "Hey, check a box here each time you make a donation" but I thought the game was going to tell me (plot-wise) when we could start doing that. We can actually start doing that at any time, correct?
After spending earned gold on gear for our characters, my group has been collectively spending 20-30 gold on the blessing/donation every time we visit Gloomhaven after a scenario.
Does that count toward the checkmarks in the rulebook or is it on a retirement card? They say it's like an achievement but the result is unclear.
Checkmarks in the rulebook. When your party has donated a total of 100 gold, which we did the last time we played, the result is opening envelope B.
the checkboxes I was talking about are in the rulebook. Pretty sure that one is just "hey, you did it, open the envelope." Not sure if that answers the question.

I assume Envelope B's contents proudly state that the Sanctuary of the Great Oak is a 501(c)(3) and also has a receipt of donations for Gloomhaven tax deduction purposes.

What happens is the Great Oak runs for office and is accused of being in the pocket of Big Mercenary.
Shoot, I thought that was related to someone's career card. Ah well.

Plausible denial!

I started donating as soon as I got money. I wanted to open that envelope!

Opening stuff up is why you play a legacy game, after all.
Sorry I keep mentioning the Gloomhaven Facebook group, but they've got a guy on there now who is making some really kick-ass trays for character play/organization and possibly storage. He 3D prints them and he says he's going to offer up the files for download whenever he perfects what he's doing. They looked pretty nice. I also saw somebody made a more robust thing-that-you-plug-the-cardboard-dudes-into that has a slot for status and can even count-down HP.
oops wrong thread
We didn’t have good luck in our first scenario after retiring my Brute. I decided to go with the Mind Thief. The mind thief just didn’t hit hard enough, so it took too long to kill the enemies. My wife ran out of cards before she got into the final room, and I had one turn left when I got in there. I thought the way the mind thief worked was pretty cool, but maybe he didn’t pair well with my wife’s tinkerer. I may go with the Cragheart next time.

Our group (with no characters retired yet) has a mindthief, and he kicks ass, mostly due to having this augment card in play:
Getting to add +2 to all future melee attacks is very strong, especially for a level-1 card!
I primarily used the augment that poisons and muddles (I think it did both). It should have a similar effect since with the poison my wife would be doing +1 damage to that target too. Well, I guess not quite as good since when the current target dies it will take another attack to poison and muddle again.
Getting his class specific item makes him insanely good.
+1 damage to all augment attacks if i remember right. Get it by doing his solo scenario.
Easily best class so far for me.

There's an optional book of scenarios meant to be played solo, one for each class. They reward a special class specific item and I think are suggested for level 5+. They can be found in pdf form here:
